New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

thank you very much also thanks for the PM it was so great.. i will call them on monday for some verification but your answers were excellent.. i can now process my application in murdoch. i hope i can have my letter of acceptance in murdoch soon.. and get my COE as soon as possible so that i can attend there august intake.. i hope you too.. go to murdoch and let us represent the Filipino nurses.. haha.. pray hard for us.. thanks

anyone who knows about sponsorship? can my brother located in perth sponsor me? if so, my brother need to have a bank acount showing the necessary show money and send me the bank statement and the affidavit of support for my lodgement? right? thanks a lot..

for those who are applying in NMBWA, we are lucky because we are only few overseas nurses who want to register in WA.. that's means less nurse more job vacancies.. haha assuming.. but hoping.. although we don't know what will happen in july 2010..

God bless us all aspiring nurses.. pls do create a good image in australia so that Filipinos who are planning to go to australia will have a warmth welcom from the ausi immi. try our best to have a good Filipino community in australia for our fellow Filipinos. i know we are.. see you then.. i don't want to experience what i experience here in UK immi.. tc

thanks for your reply.. i also called in IDP manila but the problem is i'm here in UK so they told me they can't assist me. That's why i will apply on my own.. and you help me a lot. thanks.

In my case i don't have any dependant so i don't need 1.9M php maybe 1.5M right? in 1.9M php does it include all expenses -tuition, show money, processing, visa fee-? how much will i need to have in my acount as show money? how long it will be in my account? do they have rules like that? coz i cant find in immi website they just said i have to have access on that money..

is the application letter have format that you can download in their website? or you just create on your own? did you notarized your supporting documents?

sorry i have a lot of questions.. but i now you can answer it coz i read all your posts in this forum and you are excellent. Thanks a lot again.. GB

you need to have the money at least 3 months before your application for a visa.

to pinoy RN's who wish to come to AU. im here in perth now. will start conversion course at curtin come march 1.ive met many pinoys already when we had the orientation. i have been assessed by the NMBWA and i applied for the BP but all slots were full and most of those offering will stop the BP program soon. in fact, curtin"s BP program will have it's last intake this 1st sem of 2010.that's why the alternative is to enroll in the conversion course. anyways, it takes 2 sems (9 months) to finish the course and one can register with the NMBWA. and yes, they have an intake for semester 2 this july.... the application is pretty easy and fast, and u can do it by yourself thru IDP.although expensive, i think we can pay it off when we work as RN's here in Au.

Best of luck everybody!!!

hi thanks for the update... i was also assessed by the NMBWA last november 2009 but don't have school yet for my BP actualy my target is royal perth hospital but it's really closed for this year and now im not sure if they will offer BP on 2011 because as i check their website i dont see any program pertaining to BP nex year maybe you are right that BP will no longer available soon.. That's why i'm planning to enrol for conversion in universities in perth though im not yet decided on which universities i will enrol for conversion.. but i have another problem i cant use the service of IDP because im here in UK also student.. that's why i need to do it on my own..

anyway if i will start my applicatin in curtin nex month (1st week of march) do you i think i have enough time for july intake this year? including my visa application?

when did you arrive in perth? how's curtin university? good environment?

pls update us always.. thanks.. Goodluck

hi.. just read all the posts here and you will know how to process. and i know there are so many posts here so you might not read them all. but try to read them they are very informative.. it will help you a lot.

if you need clarifications just post your questions here.. anyways, im here in UK as student and it is really hard here.. no vacancies for part time that's why im persuing my dream in ausi to be RN there.. it is much advisable to study in ausi than UK but the tuition fee is more expensive in ausi than here in UK..

@lime12

its so too long to read all the thread..:(( anyways ill try that.. yeah i have seen the tuition in ausie its so expensive :( why is that so expensive?grrr! anyways if u dont mind how long have u been in uk?

Specializes in Theater nurse.

im just 2 months here and i don't have my part time job yet..

anyway i know it's too long i'l give you some infos.. yeah so expensive in ausi but in the last few years it's cheap because a lot of schools offer bridging program (BP) this BP is for nurses who want to be RN in ausi it is less than 3 month program (10weeks) and tourist visa is recommended for this program. and now this BP was replaced by nursing conversion which is offer by most universities now in ausi this conversion is 1 year in duration so you need a student visa which will also allow you to have part time for not more than 20 hours. BP is ranging from 1000-9000 AUD while conversion is ranging from 19000-23000 AUD. it depends in your chosen educational provider. when you choose BP you are not allowed to have part time job and mostly your visa is short in duration. while if you take conversion you are allow to work and your visa is more than 12 months in duration so you have time for job hunting to have work permit and you might earn around 12000-15000 AUD in part time but i think like in UK it's hard to look for part time job there. you need 2million pesos for for you to have a student visa in ausi.. it includes all including show money. and you should take IELTS with 7.0 grade in all subtest.

now if you have that amount of money and IELTS you may now begin your application. i hope this will help you to assess yourself if you can study in ausi.. but pls dont go here in UK there is no future here hehe.. sad reality..

yes... he can sponsor you. just show his cert of employment and show money in the bank, not necessarily to reach the 1 m thingy, as long as there is income he can sponsor you. yes, nurses are still in demand here as in super hehehe... checkout mycareer.com.au or seek.com.au . i was even thinking if i should study to become a nurse too because it's like the easiest job you can get here as long as you are qualified with nbv license and experience in your field ie. icu, emergency, theatre, etc...and there are also graduate programs that you can join if your a fresh grad. anyway, i will study to become a teacher in 2011 at deakin. they have a 1 year course called master of teaching, you can take that if you have a bachelor's degree and get a license afterwards to teach :) there was a tv news that australia needs more migrants and they have to be either nurses or teachers..
