New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@wahine888: yeah I guess so :D

Look, I checked this thread while I was having breakfast about 5 hours ago. And now here I am again LOL

@ reeta: Hi reeta, welcome to the thread. I see that you followed this link :)

Hey NBV peeps hope you can help reeta here. I met her in a thread that she created. She was asking about Deakin Uni. So I referred her here seeing that Victoria bound posters still check-in from time to time. :)

Hello! I think I can answer your question but I'm not 100% sure it's correct. I applied also in Murdoch University in Perth for their 1 year Bachelor of Nursing Conversion Program since it's the only Uni in Perth that doesn't require any nursing experience. They don't call it IRON like the 3-month BP courses but it's the same course that will allow me to be registered with NMBWA once I finish the course. It's a course that will convert your Philippine (or wherever you're from) BSN degree to an Australian degree. And it's categorized under a 'higher education course' if you're going to apply for a student visa. The IRON or Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses course, on the other hand, is a 'non-award' course and it will no lead to an Australian award. It simply 'bridges' your local qualifications to meet the Australian standards of practice. The two courses will still lead to your registration to the the Board of Nurses. And if it's only a 3-month program, you wont need a student visa but a 456 or business short stay visa. I think it's just a matter of which of the programs will meet your qualifications :)

hi guys i hope someone will answer my questions.. I hope i'm not late for this thread i'm just starting.. haha.. and this is the first forum that i was atteded.. thanks..

Hello lime12

I applied at Murdoch thru the help of IDP Manila (for free) but you can still do it by yourself. You just need to submit them you application letter and supporting documents (TOR, diploma, etc) and wait for the letter of offer. I got mine after about a month IDP sent them my application package. I don't have CAS or NMBWA eligibility, Murdoch doesn't require one anyway. The commencement date is August 2, 2010 but there will be an orientation on July 25. Murdoch offers conversion course which is 1 year, not the bridging program or IRON which is only 10-14 weeks long depending on th education provider. The course fee is $20187.00. You can check these sites:

http://www.murdoch.edu.au/students/new/Booklets/files_2009/Nursing_Conv.pdf

http://www.nursing.murdoch.edu.au/courses/b_nurs_conversion.html

I will also PM you the International Enquiry Officer of Murdoch University. She's very helpful.

About financial requirements for visa IDP computed the total amount I need for the course and it showed I need about 1.9M PHP (for me and my husband) to present when I lodge for student visa.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your reply.. i also called in IDP manila but the problem is i'm here in UK so they told me they can't assist me. That's why i will apply on my own.. and you help me a lot. thanks.

In my case i don't have any dependant so i don't need 1.9M php maybe 1.5M right? in 1.9M php does it include all expenses -tuition, show money, processing, visa fee-? how much will i need to have in my acount as show money? how long it will be in my account? do they have rules like that? coz i cant find in immi website they just said i have to have access on that money..

is the application letter have format that you can download in their website? or you just create on your own? did you notarized your supporting documents?

sorry i have a lot of questions.. but i now you can answer it coz i read all your posts in this forum and you are excellent. Thanks a lot again.. GB

For show money (you have to show them a bank certificate showing a record of three months transaction, either your own account or your sponsor's):

Tuition fee - A$20,000 (for 1 year in Murdoch)

Living Expenses - A$18,000 (for 1 year)

Airfare - A$1,500 (this is Phil-AUS, it might be different since you're in UK)

TOTAL - A$39,500

You can see everything about applying for a student visa at:

http://www.immi.gov.au

or if what you are looking for is not there, e-mail:

[email protected]

Better if you can call/e-mail the Australian Embassy in UK so that you'll know how to process the visa from there.

For the documents, application form can be downloaded from http://www.immi.gov.au. Yes, you have to notarize documents like the Affidavit of Support if you have a sponsor. The rest of documents like TOR, birth certificate, bank certificate must be all original

All these info I provide are based on my own research. You may want to do your own for validation.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

thank you very much now i understand.. but i have some few questions left

39500 show money includes the tuition fee for 1 year.. so i will not pay any tuition fee to murdoch before my flight? i will pay them when i arrive in ausi right? or i will pay them before my flight then the show money is still 39500? or i will deduct the tuition fee that i pay? also do i need to pay the full tuition fee to murdoch or it is ok if i will only pay the 1st semester? sorry i did not receive your PM for the contact number of international rep for murdoch..

about the documents.. what documents did you send to murdoch? did you notarized the documents you send to murdoch?

sorry again for so many questions.. i hope you can answer this.. you are so kind. thanks a lot. Godbless

Why did you choose Murdoch University of all the university in Australia? I tried to inquire at IDP as they help to process things for student visa in OZ. The overall expenses to study again is very expensive might as well to try the IRON program instead. I really don't know what route to take, my chances to land a job in Canada are getting slim as they are on a freeze hiring. ( Sigh ).

@narscathy

Because Murdoch doesn't require the eligibility from NMBSW before you can apply with them. I believe wahine888 has her options open to whichever responds favorably to her applications at the soonest possible time.

What route to take would definitely depend on where you really want to go. Consider the environment or whether you have relatives or friends whom you can stay with for the meantime.

You mentioned Canada... Are you in Canada? Or have pending application to migrate there? I believe there are still some areas in Canada that hire nurses especially if you have some special skills that they need. It's hard but still worth a try.

@lime12 You have to enroll first because you need the Letter of Offer and Certificate of Enrollment from the school to lodge for the student visa and it will not be deducted from the show money. You can pay half of Murdoch's total tuition fee to be enrolled but you must pay the balance before the first semester ends. I can't send PM for some reason. Will try again. Documents I sent to Murdoch: Certified copies of TOR (both degrees), diploma, Board Certificate, Board rating, marriage certificate (evidence of name change), birth certificate. Notarized by Public attorney. I don't mind answering your questions but I do suggest you go to the websites I cited because you will find there everything I am posting here in full details . Better yet, call or e-mail the persons in charge, they can be more informative than I am :)

@narscathy Haoyin is correct. I didn't know anything about the IRON program when I applied at Murdoch. Now that I have an ongoing application at NBV, I'm keeping Murdoch as my 'last resort' if things won't turn out as I want to with NBV. I also applied in Canada but I didn't get lucky. Hope one will be fruitful!

@Haoyin Amen to that.
