New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

i like it here.i was in sydney before and it's world apart from perth...so much cheaper here and it is a very clean place. :) there are a lot of parks and its not congested at all.yep, i am on student visa (573)-and its good for 1 year (conversion course takes 9 months).

u can start applying for uni as of now.because once they approve it and give u a Letter of offer, u can choose which intake u want-u know if ur ready to lodge application to the Au immig. :) at least u have the Offer letter already...take care!

sunchaser... thank you for answering my questions, im also from negros, where exactly are you from if you dont mind. anyway correct me if i'm wrong but you just said that curtin is not offering anymore the nursing conversion course(6 mos.) which costs about AUD 11,500 for overseas trained nurses. and also i forgot to ask can i pass my documents for assessment even if i will still take my ielts?

carl,

the conversion goes on. its the BP that will have its last intake this semester 1.thats why im taking the conversion and not the BP( conversion is not 6 months-it is 9 months or 2 semesters)..the conversion costs Au$23,000...curtin also offers BP but we were told that they will stop the program after the 1st sem intake. so no use if we wait for it, thats why we ended up in the conversion program.

btw, im from dgte...

sunchaser1019..sorry im a bit confused, is this the BP that you were refering http://courses.curtin.edu.au/course_overview/undergraduate/nursing-diplomates:)

@sunchaser

is there no conversion program in other schools?.. im worrying about the tuition,, its too expensive:( after taking that conversion course? wuts next step? thanks :)

zyann, try murdoch university, edith cowan university.tuition are more or less the same...after conversion u register as a nurse.that's it...

carl: diplomate course is different,i live with a singaporean doing the diplomate course, if u like, u can send an email to curtin and ask about the availability of the BP: [email protected] shes the one in charge of the international program for nurses
