New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

ryan09.... seems like you already have a lot of information about the bp.. do you know where is the cheapest uni that offers bp in vic because i have a relative who lives there.thank you

only two universities in victoria offering the course amounting to 5 digits..deakin university and la trobe universsity...

if youve got a relative here then that would be terrific, staying in your relatives place while doing the bp is a big help to lessen your expenses..no need for you to pay for the accomodation...accomodations here will cost you from 120 dollars a week so just imagine how big the rental fee is...

nice to finally put a face to the helpful name of ryan09..i am assuming that the guy is you..hehe ..goodluck bro

thanks...:)

i will give you a high assurance that im the guy in the pic...lol...there are only two males in our class...me and the other one is an african...

here in australia the male to female nurse ratio would be like 2 (males)is to 15 (females) :D unlike in the philippines wherein you can see a lot of male nurses...

good luck!

@RYAN

"hello, yes if you are a PR you are eligible to apply for a scholarship PLUS the australian government will pay for the remaining balance..so you will not be spending even a single cent for the course fee...;)

only certain institutions accept payments from the government...but for the scholarship thingy, im 95% sure all of the institutions are accepting it..."

is it applicable for me even if im a newly grant PR? so u mean u did'nt spend a single cent for ur uni fees?? sorry im so cholitttt... jejejeje

@jaybadette,

the answer to all of your questions is yes...;) :)

so grab it...

the finacial requirement of 18,000 aud is for 1 year so you can prorate it if your course is just 3 months. that means divide 18k by 4 then that's about what you need to show.

:)

@ chabelli & gf, hi! i've been reading ur posts, it's like my daily bread of sorts lately...m confused with regards to the funds, u mean to say that for the both of u the financial requirement is 4500 aud? coz i thought it's 18k( for urself) + 6300 aud ( for ur partner)????please advise me...thanks in advance btw how's nursing school like there?:confused::confused:

from gf :)

if you're the only one coming, you can just get a visitor visa because they can even give you 6 months or 1 year validity. state in your reason that you will take a bp as required by nbv for registration as nurse then you need time to process registration and then to find work as a div i nurse.

hi, just want to know if it wont be a problem if i put this in the application for my tourist visa. i already have a tourist visa, valid for 1 year but its going to expire this march and i just got my nbv approval so useless na ang visa ko. i read here na mas advisable yung tourist visa for bp kasi 3 months lang naman yun, but usually meron nakalagay na cannot extend stay more than 3 months like yung nakalagay sa visa ko ngayun. i'm really confused, baka pwede nyo ko matulungan. salamat...

so your first visa has no further extension condition?, do you remember the length of stay you requested the first time you applied for a visa?

i believe there's a portion in the visa application where you are asked the length of stay you need... either 3, 6 or 12 months.

yes there is, thats why i had to come back after taking my oet. i applied for 12 months stay.

@hungrybird09 really... :( but length of stay is always on the discretion of the consular officer, it is dependent on so many things -the documents one present, his/her present circumstance, main reason of going to aus. I presume you didnt present any document requiring you to study for atleast three months, BP or whatever, if you did -and you you're supporting documents are fine, then IF THEY ARE TO GRANT YOU A VISA the length of stay validity should be longer than the length of the course study. If you didnt do this before, perhaps you can try this now, if you are to use a tourist visa for BP instead of student visa. :)

it's 18k for one full year but bec it's just a 3 month course, you only need to show 3 month's worth of financial requirements so you need to prorate it.

we showed about 300k php show money and then affidavit of financial support also from family.

i agree. there's a question there that says, how long do you intend to stay in australia... so put 6 months. then your reasons... your reason is to attend brige program, process you nbv license, sightseeing.. something like that, to justify the length of your stay.

:yeah::yeah::yeah: all the while i thought i have to shell out 18k (for myself) + 6300 (for partner) even if the course runs for 3mos & add +3600 (1st kid) & 2700 (2nd kid), even if they aren't coming!

ok i'll start planning, follow your steps after a year or two... thanks for the reply.:D

coz if it does, even if i get nbv approval, it will be hard for me to comply with the 1,315,800 php financial requirements:uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3:
