New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Specializes in Med-Surg / ICU / Aged Care.

It's been a great year 2009 for me.. I hope my 2010 will also be good, meaning i would be able to find a nursing job in Australia when the time comes for me to apply, that is after my on-going hospital training program..

Good luck to all and Hapee New Year...

hi, for the 1-day part B clinical challenge, does one have to still have the BLS certificate at hepB? does it have the same requirement as the 160-hr clinical placement? thanks!

@drednag: wowowieee!!! CONGRATS gurl!!!:)

hehehe, blinq..im a boy...hehehehe:bugeyes:... how's your visa application? :up::up::up:

nope. im currently outside the phil.

but you're right i took the exam last dec 12!

i lodged my NBV application on first week of dec together with the verification (of course sent by PRC)

i think they received my verification first. around one or two days before they received my application. :) funnies....

when did u send your application?

i hiope i can make the jan 25 cut off of deakin! where do you plan to take your bp?

hi, new mac...NBV received my verification prior to my application documents, too... Actually, I sent my nbv application second week of november, but LBC lost my package:angryfire so i had to resend it...this time through FEDEX..according to FEDEX's tracking report, they delivered the application document received it last december 14, although there is no confirmation from nbv yet.

how did you confirm if they received your application already? did you call? email?

I have no idea which bridging course provider id be going to...although i've heard about deakin and la trobe... deakin's cut off is january 25??? wow, so soon...i hope we get positive results from nbv before then...have you asked idp to send your IELTS result already?

Good luck to us!!!:up::up::up:

Hi drednag and newmac and everyone else who are also going the NBV route like me. By the way, I'm new to the site. It seems a number of people here are trying this path since the countdown for the consolidation of Australia's national registration for healthworkers (including Division 1 Reg Nurses) has already started. I'm talking about July 2010 here. ;-) Bit anxious about that and what that new scheme has in store for us, overseas RNs. Hehe! 'Guess let's just hope for the best :-)

I also lodged my application to NBV last December 12 soon after I've got my IELTS result and basing on the tracking record from the courier service (FEDEX), NBV received my application packet last December 15. Then, they got my PRC verification the next day (December 16) . I opted to include a certified photocopy of my IELTS TRF instead of having the British Council send it as it was indicated in the NBV application form that attachment of a certified photocopy of an IELTS result form is fine. Better alternative and saves me much from added courier service costs.

I'm also looking into either Deakin or La Trobe University but I hope we all get the soonest affirmative reply from NBV. Now, all we can do for the meantime is wait and pray. I just hope that we'd be able to make it prior or, at the very least, on the deadline of application for Deakin on January 25. And who knows, eventually, by then, we might even become classmates... Hehe!!! But for now, Best of Luck for all of us this 2010! :-)

Question re: CAS

Would it be possible to complete it before June 30, 09? I got my letter telling me that I have complied with all the requirements and asking me to enroll in the program and I want to do the challenge tests. Please enlighten. Thank you.

Hey guys, have you heard about Victorian College of Health and Nursing (VCHN)?

Apparently, while its campus is in Victoria, Au, VCHN is a bridging course provider accredited with NMBWA and ACT, and awaiting re-accreditation with NBV. :up::up::up: According to its website, they give a 10 week bridging course and they started last November 2009 for those seeking registration with NMBWA.

Has anyone studied or know of anybody who studied, studying or will study in VCHN?

hi everyone,

we're here in Bendigo already. it's 2 hrs by train from Melbourne but it's a lovely city. the cost of living is lesser compared to in Melbourne, the rooms are a lot cheaper here, it can be less than 90 aud per week and you can seldom find that in the city. but if you have relatives in Melbourne, it's better to choose Deakin Uni in Burwood.

We arrived here Dec 30 and classes will start tomorrow , im still not sure if Ill have a filipino classmate. We're coming back and forth to the city and the fare is expensive :) we are doing some sightseeing on the sides.

update you more. just PM me questions i'll try to reply as soon as i can. No internet access from home yet, we're doing this from the marketplace. (shopping centre)
