Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
thank you so much ciao_88! i have relatives in melbourne, victoria... is it right that i should be taking the BP instead of CAS?
you made me smile when you wrote the STUNNING IELTS.. It makes me scared actually
:-) If you have relatives in Melbourne, that would be an advantage coz you don't have to worry about your accommodation. However, you would also have to consider the available schedule of those participating institutions for the BP. You have options... Good luck.
I am planning to take my IELTS exam right after i'm done with my NCLEX-RN on January. If I achieved the required band score of 7.0, can I apply right away for registration? or I really have to gain the 1 year experience?
I was thinking of having my clinical experience after since I have heard that application for registration alone would take a year. Please help me. Thanks.
thanks cioman94!i got a question though, why cant i have tourist visa? from what i know, if the course is less than 3 months like CAP, only a tourist visa is needed. student visa is for those who would study for more than 3 months. On a tourist visa, it is legal to stay for up to nine months for an 18th month period.
also, any nursing experience is now acceptable by NZNC. and the requirement i saw in their website was at least 450 hours of practice to be able to apply for registration. but of course much better to have at least a year to suit employers' taste. :)
i think chabeli had answered your question about tourist visa, which is a good news.. anyways, as a general rule, just make sure to ask the agency whatever you should ask and demand a clear answer (don't fall into a "salesman answer" to your queries).. just be well informed.. good luck, it's cold out there in NZ, visit us in Aussie during summer time..
hi issy, as long as your course will be 3 months or less you can definitely go for a tourist visa. the advantage of a tourist visa is the processing fee is way lesser compared to that of a student visa plus the financial requirement won't be as much. the advantage of a student visa on the other hand is you can get a work permit for up to 20 hrs per week.however, if it's just a short course, you won't really need to work especialy that you have to do bridge and ensure that you pass it... so tourist visa should be good. i would have wanted to take a tourist visa also but my gf will be coming with me and if in case she might get bored, she can find work while im studying. it was only for that reason that i took the student visa.
thanks for the clarification and correction..

hi,
"...... can I apply right away for registration? or I really have to gain the 1 year experience?.."
are you referring to your plan to apply for assessment for registration at QNC or NMBV? QNC presently does not require experience as a minimum requirement.. you may start your application for assessment, while waiting for the result of your assessment, you may undertake a clinical experience for your own benefit...

Thank you again cia_88..... hope you wont get tired answering quires ... My plan as of the moment is to review for my ielts and perhaps next year i will have the guts to take it.
any review center online or Philippines that you all could suggest.
hi chabeli!thanks for the info. do u know how long before i can apply for permanent residence once i get a job in NZ? someone told me i can apply right after i get a job, and approval of PR normally takes 6 months after application. thanks again. :)
im not very familiar with NZ, but for Australia, you can already apply for PR if you have worked or studied full time for at least 2 years . NZ and Oz have very similar immigration guidelines , but maybe you can check on the new zealand immigration website about that.. however, being a PR should be the least of your priority as of this time as there are still a lot of steps to follow and a long wait period. focus on how you can get a license to work in NZ first ... it should be the first big step.

You can enlighten yourself by reading a few pages ..start around page 300 would just about right. QNC is queenland and NBV is Victoria. Both have different paths of getting registered. QNC requires the CAS exam which you must apply for to be registered and also must pass while NBV has the IRON program if I am not mistaken or the bridging program where you go there to study for a period of months.
