New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I'm so lost. I'm formulating a study schedule and I don't know how many months to allot, where to start, etc. This is for CAS Part A. Can anyone give me an idea re: their study schedule? Thanks.

hello everyone! i just wanna share the good news... I called up QNC this morning and learned that, finally, i was given a positive assessment result and may undergo competency. I was really nervous all this time because I'm a second courser and I've heard that some 2nd courser applicants were just assessed as EEN's. My timetable is as follows:

last week of JUNE - submitted docs

1st week of OCT - received incomplete assessment, was asked to submit additional docs

1st week of NOV - followed up my application thru email and was informed that the board would meet on NOV 20 and my application would be among those to be evaluated

NOV26 - learned that assessment result was mailed on NOV25 and eligible for CAS

For all those whose applications are also in my time frame, i suggest you follow up thru email or phone.

May we all attain our dreams! To God be the glory!

Congratulations. You can now e-mail the CAS program administrator directly at [email protected]

You can ask them to foward an application for you through e-mail for the challenge test. See if you can still book for the December schedule. All the best.

Hey guys. Just needed to ask if anyone received their NBV assessment lately ?

@ ryan.. is the selection process tough @ deakin? thanks!

@chabeli, thanks for the info! one more thing, sorry for being naive, for la trobe application which one should be filled up for bp course the undergrad or post grad? just wanna make sure.

i really dont know the deakin's selection process...maybe they will give considerations to your documents submitted to the NBV...

all i know is that they will only run the program if sufficient number of applicants will be reached,,,

Hi kit! thanks so much... I think I'll wait for their letter first before emailing the CAS provider. I plan to take the exam in April or May coz I haven't started my review yet. I'm having a hard time procuring the materials for the review. Any tips on how to do the review?

[color=pink]2) do not deal with agents which will process you tourist visa, some fishy about it, you must have a student visa, no more & no less, period! that student visa will serve your 12-week need.

***please clarify with your agent what specific "experience" is acceptable.. the last time i checked, "volunteer" experience is not acceptable, and im not sure if "training" experience is acceptable.. also asked if having a "company/clinic" nursing experience is acceptable.. by the way, the nz nursing board requires "1-year" experience, not 6-months experience..

thanks cioman94!

i got a question though, why cant i have tourist visa? from what i know, if the course is less than 3 months like cap, only a tourist visa is needed. student visa is for those who would study for more than 3 months. on a tourist visa, it is legal to stay for up to nine months for an 18th month period.

also, any nursing experience is now acceptable by nznc. and the requirement i saw in their website was at least 450 hours of practice to be able to apply for registration. but of course much better to have at least a year to suit employers' taste. :)smile.png

hi issy, as long as your course will be 3 months or less you can definitely go for a tourist visa. the advantage of a tourist visa is the processing fee is way lesser compared to that of a student visa plus the financial requirement won't be as much. the advantage of a student visa on the other hand is you can get a work permit for up to 20 hrs per week.

however, if it's just a short course, you won't really need to work especialy that you have to do bridge and ensure that you pass it... so tourist visa should be good. i would have wanted to take a tourist visa also but my gf will be coming with me and if in case she might get bored, she can find work while im studying. it was only for that reason that i took the student visa.

Hi guys i have been reading hundredths of post and i found it so encouraging and inspiring.

Can anyone who is not busy to please help me or you can copy and paste again the steps on how to apply for CAS. example first i have to pass my IELTS (which i am really scared of) then what would be the next thing that i should be doing.

thanks to all and God bless us

Hi Drednag did you submit your IELTS to NBV? Will they process it even without IELTS? Thanks

Hi, dgreat80. Nope, I have not yet submitted my IELTS to NBV. I am taking it this December 2009, I hope I get the required band score. I really do hope they will process my application even without the IELTS, but I will submit my IELTS (Godwilling I get the score) immediately.:up:

Have you filed your application to NBV? Did you submit your IELTS already?

Hi, I suggest you lodge first your complete and correctly notarized documents and application to QNC. Be careful of how your documents are notarized (with the complete name, address and telephone number of the notary public) with the correct certification/notarization. The assessment from QNC takes time so It would be smart to lodge first your application (refer to QNC website for complete requirements) then review and take the stunning IELTS exam.

Good luck.

Hi ciao sent you PM reply tnx!
