New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi icejo,

how did you have your prc verification sent? by regular mail or did you send my fedex?

well, i was trying to cut cost so i used the regular, snail mail. i asked them to send it 2 weeks before i send my application.i will surely avail fedex/dhl this time.:D:d:d

I sent mine by FEDEX thinking that it would get there sooner but when i checked it had taken at least a week before it was signed for by QNC on FEDEX. PRC had taken 7 days to send it by FEDEX. ....Hope i get my assessment soon ..

hey sure no problem.. i'll keep you posted :)

i have the assessment letter already. Just waiting for the result of my application to HPH if i'll be included in the sept run. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed to be selected for the bridging program as they only accept 25 applicants per program, so it's really a little competitive.. i've also learned that out of the 25 applicants, they would just probably select 12 or 13 overseas nurses as they don't want too many foreign nurses whose first language is not english and who has limited acute nursing experience in one batch. The other half will be filled by RNs in australia who wants to return to nursing practice..

How about you? have you applied at NMBWA already?

Hi! Sofia, I already applied in NMBWA I had my assessment letter last month but I have send my ielts result. Coz unfortunately I did not pass the required score of writing. But rest of the academics I passed. And I'm planning to to retake soon. Thanks for the infos too. By the way, Do you consider DOH too? since you have the two years experience. But the only thing they differ with the BP fee right? Let's just hope for the best.

Hi guys! Oh I'm sorry to hear that icejo. But at least that's the only requirement lacking :nuke:. Well yeah, next time just avail of the courier service coz that document is quite important. Mine was pretty fast. I had it sent thru Fed ex on a Monday and QNC received it Wednesday (2 days after).

Anyway, just wanna say that I'm happy that I didn't get a score lower than 7! I really cried when I opened my envelope and found out that I passed. The best part was I managed to get a 9.0 in Listening! I also got 8.0 in Reading, 8.5 in Writing (this was really unexpected since I was so sure I messed up my Task 1) and 7.0 in Speaking. I really didn't expect to pass my Speaking because I felt that I didn't make any sense and that I was just shooting my mouth off at the time of the interview. I even had one loooong pause. Overall band score was 8.0. Yipee!! :yeah:Sorry mods if this is off-topic. Just really ecstatic that I can now start and concentrate on my CAS review. At least I don't have to worry about retaking. Heck I even considered taking the OET insted of retaking (if ever I found out that I have a lower than 7) because I was really so anxious, thinking that I have to sit through IELTS again. To God be the glory! :anpom:

congratulations chocokat79!!! :smiley_aa

hi chokolat!

congrats!! hats off to you..:yeah: i'l be taking the ielts this coming Sept 26, so fingers crossed.. Any tips? I'm kinda weak in both writing and reading :o.. its pretty daunting just the thought of it.

thanks!

4vida: hi! im not considering DOH because I've worked in a hospital for only 1 1/2 years and 7 months in a clinic so i don't think i'm qualified to apply there.. But yeah they differ in BP fee, the DOH's BP is more expensive with AUD 2,000+ while in HPH, it costs AUD 1,100.. Good luck in your IELTS exam! :paw:
