New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi! Have you started your application for registration? I received the hard copy of the decision letter of NMBWA last Sept. 24 and have sent my application for bridging program onSept 26. As soon as I get a decision from the institution where I plan to take the BP, I will post it here so that others who wish to apply will be guided.

Good luck to your registration and God bless.

How much and how did you pay the fees for NMBWA initial application? Do they accept bank drafts? Where did you apply for the bridging program? Thanks!

nursemavi,

I already lodged my application to QNC for more than a month now, and until today I haven't received any correspondence from the council of the status of my application, or if they have it for review. I plan to sit for the Challenge Test..I'm having second thought of taking the bridging course instead. What Uni or College did you apply for in WA? Do you have relatives there? Thanks

Do we have the option to choose between the Challenge Test and the Bridging Program? Or is it up to Australia's BON to decide?

you will have an option in choosing your pathway to nursing practice in qld. try this link (http://www.qnc.qld.gov.au/upload/pdfs/publications/competence_assessment_service.pdf

hope this helps..:heartbeat :p

You have the choice to apply for either. QNC will let you decide which to take between Challenge test and the Education modules.

Hope that helps. :)

I suggest you call the office of QNC BON so that you can be apprised of the status of your application. I don't have relatives in Perth. I applied for a bridging program in Hollywood Private Hospital.

To Quackmoon:

I paid the fees using a credit card. QNC offers a choice between a challenge test or a bridging program.

Good luck to your application. God bless.

Some clarification: Do you mean QNC received your application and ielts results on August 15 and then you received confirmation letter from QNC to take TEST A on August 27? Wow, that was a very quick/fast approval from QNC (cause normally i believe it will take 2-3 mos for the approval), Well thats good to hear and congrats. God bless and good luck for TEST A.

hi linkrn:

just wanna ask if you know, does the QNC processing/assessment result still takes 2-3 mos.? or is it longer already (5-6 mos.)? considering the volume of applications they received? just asking if you have latest updates on the waiting time..

thanks. anyone who knows the answer, please reply..:saint:

Hi nursemavi,

i'm also here a new RN here in davao city.. as i read your posts, i'm amazed on how fast the NMBWA had processed your assessment application as compared to QNC.. which makes me wonder (for the sake of me playing dumb) on why many would prefer QNC, is it cheaper there?

on the other hand, nursemavi, do you have any idea how difficult the CAP would be? i'm trying to check any threads which discuss the content or level of difficulty of CAP, i dont know if anyone or aelith or you could help me on this concern.

it is a concern for me coz i'll be paying for the CAP fees, thus it would be better, that i should know if i could cope with the exams/reports of the program.. or at least i would prepare myself mentally of the CAP torture ahead..:banghead:

hope you or anyone here could appease my psychotic anxieties on the CAP..:scrying: hope those who finished CAP already would share their experiences, please.:saint:

Thank you..:)

Hi Cioman 94,

It is good to know we are from one place. Have you started your application with QNC? Many are enticed to register with QNC because it has been written in this forum that QNC does not require experience. Secondly, it is the only council that allows challenge test to be taken in the Philippines. Thirdly, distance learning is allowed under QNC. Fourthly, QNC has urban places as like Gold Coast while Perth(NMBWA) is quite far from Sydney. I was once in the same position. I did plan to apply at QNC but did not push thru and shelved the idea because of the cost.

With regards to the challenge test, some would say it is quite easy but others would say it's difficult. I think the test are more geared in psychosocial in nature. Just pray that you will be able to obtain a postive assessment.

In case you will need help, just send a message and I'll try my best to be of help.

Good luck and God bless.
