New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi!! I am very much interested in working as a nurse in victoria.I would like to know the steps on how I can go there on a student visa to take a bridging course.do i need to be assessed by australian nursing council first before i look for a school? do i need my ielts results? I will appreciate your reply.

There are two pathways to become a Registered Nurse in Australia or in your case in Victoria.

1. Enroll in a pre-registered Nursing degree in any accredited/recognised program of the Universities by Nurses Board of Victoria.

Link of accredited Nursing courses in Victoria: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43901/ac...ses%20div1.pdf

Here is another link for accredited Nursing Courses for Overseas Registered Nurses which will lead to registration in the Nurses Board of Victoria:

b. http://www.nbv.org.au/media/50024/ac...eas%20div1.pdf

2. Directly applying for Registration in Division 1 at the Nurses Board of Victoria.

2.1. Fill out and print this form: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43455/in...tion%20app.pdf

2.2. IELTS (Academic) result should have at least an overall band score of 7 with scores no less than the ones indicated below:

2.2.1. Reading & Listening 6.5

2.2.2. Writing & Speaking 7.0

2.2.3. Starting July 1, 2009 the IELTS minimum score for all bands is 7.0 (can be submitted even after you passed your application to NBV)

2.3. Prepare all other necessary documents before lodging your application which includes the following:

2.3.1. Evidence of Identity (true copy of Passport or Birth Certificate)

2.3.2. Certified true copy of Transcript

2.3.3. Certified true copy of Diploma

2.3.4. Certificate of initial registration

2.3.5. Verification of Registration (As far as I know, you will need to go to PRC and ask them to send Nurses Board of Victoria the said certification)

2.3.6. Work Statement (if applicable)

N.B. The Nurses Board of Victoria does not specifically require one to have relevant nursing experience however if you do have, you are required to provide evidence of this. It does not specifically say if the experience would only be recognised if it is from a certain type of hospital (e.g. tertiary hospital).

2.3.7. Evidence of Change of Name (if applicable e.g. marriage certificate)

2.3.8. Enclosed Fee (kindly check the website for the updated fee as this change yearly i think)

2.4. Submit the application including all the documents needed and the fee.

2.5. Wait for the Nurses Board of Victoria's decision. It can be either of the following:

2.5.1. You will be granted registration in Division 1.

2.5.2. Your application will be denied.

2.5.3. You will have a conditional offer wherein you will be asked to undergo a bridging program. And upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible for registration. However, if unsuccessful then you will not be eligible for registration.

N.B. If your application is unsuccessful, you can be given other options to help you be registered in the said state. This will most probably include taking up any of the recognised courses leading to registration in Division 1.

I hope the above helps you. If there's anything that you want to clarify, just tell me. I'll try and provide whatever I know. I have not included specific details about the bridging program in Victoria as you only asked for the process. However, if you want to know more about the bridging program, I can elaborate on my next post. Copy%20of%20wink.gif

Hey! Sorry for my ignorance but I just read the comment/reply by aelith above. So which state is easier to apply to? Queensland or Victoria? Coz since reading this thread I've just been following those comments where I can learn about QNC-CAS but I usually Ignore those pertaining to Victoria or another state/procedure. But upon seeing aelith's comment above, it seems like Victoria is much easier. IS IT? No Challenge Test? No practicals? Is looking for a sponsor easier there than in QLD?

OMG kindly enlightne me on this. :confused:

Thank you very much for your help.I'm just wondering..is there a difference in tuition fees if you go directly with a student visa vs. going there to take up a bridging course which the board of victoria would require ?

I think the processing time is now faster in Victoria..since earlier everyone started applying for QNC. QNC is still much cheaper because of the CAS vs the 12,000 AUD or so bridging progam in Victoria. So if you are doing your IELTS, i would suggest sending them your application so that they can assess it. Been waiting for mine..hopefully it arrives soon..

Hi, just wanted to share that I have started to apply to change over from my 457 visa to a permanent resident visa, a friend told me about this 457 visa help site, www.457assistance.com and I am now on my way to making my 457 visa just a bad memory.

If you are on a 457 visa, then you should look at every way possible to get it converted to perm visa - my husband and I are over the moon

All Bridging programs have the practical part in it so it's not really so different from one another. The only big difference is the tuition fees as Victoria and NSW are on the higher end. Qld's CAS and WA's other BPs are on the lower end.

Also, QNC's CAS is the only one who offers 2 pathways - Challenge test or Education MOdules. The rest of the BPs across Australia is pretty much the same as the Education MOdules except the fact that a normal BP is done in Australia while in CAS' Education MOdules, only the practical part is done in Australia.

I am a bit confused with your statement. What are you really aiming for - a Bridging Program or a Pre-registration degree? Those 2 have very different tuition fees and you can expect that the latter will cost you so so much more.

Victoria's cheapest BP is at 5k if I remember correctly. Although, QNC's CAS is still pretty cheap together with WA's HPH.

Just a word of caution, choose your migration agents wisely. I don't see any information about the agents in that site neither the certifications or the affiliations to theMARA and the like.

Hi guys! Sorry Ive been very busy with my IELTS review that I didn't have time to come back here... Anyway it's final. I have decided to go through the process on my own :specs:. And thanks so much AELITH for the info. I guess I should just stick with my plan to push through with my QNC CAS application.

So, can someone (who was already assessed by QNC and was given the go signal for the Challenge test) please recommend me the notary public that you have gone to? Just PM me please. I just want to make sure that I'll be doing everything right here. I plan to have my documents notarized next week. I am especially worried about the part where the notary should state "I have sighted this to be the true copy of the original document... " Do they have to WRITE IT DOWN PER PAGE or will their ordinary stamp do?

Thanks guys in advance!

^ they didnt have problems with my notarization. what i did was i printed this template on the photocopy of the documents.

[color=#215868]i have sighted the original document

[color=#215868]on :

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]i certify that this is a true copy

[color=#215868]of the original.document.

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]date of certification:

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]name of individual

[color=#215868] certifying the document:

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]signature

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]contact address

[color=#215868]

[color=#215868]phone #

and then of course have them write down their details and affix their dry seal. if there is no blank space to print on the document, you could print on the back side.

one member (punjabi) had stamps made. that's also a clever idea.

thanks for the info.. basing on your post, is there something really "bad" about 457 visa such that we raise the warning of having it converted every way possible?

from what i understand, it is cheaper for nurse worker to apply for 457 visa as sponsored by employer hospital as compared to immediately applying for permanent residency.. since most of us have limited budget, it is therefore expected for us to go through the 457 visa, work with the sponsoring hospital for 2 years but may already apply for permanent residency after 1 year of working..

thus, 457 visa if it is "bad" is a bullet most of us have to bite.. I know there are obvious advantages of having permanent residency, however is it really that bad to have 457 visa? Hope you could enlighten us of your experience so we would be guided..

thank you and hello to all pioneer members of this thread..
