Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
hi branyan and joeturtle:it has been such a long time since we last heard from you. have you already started a job? do you already have employers who wil sponsor you for a 457 visa?
please tell us if you already have. thanks!
hi, phoenix_risisng. yes, an employer already sponsored me and i've already filed my 457 visa with diac last feb. they say the processing takes around 3 months so hopefully i'll get it this may.

To Gemma: please control yourself. You are too starstruck by Branyan hahaha. In love?! haha just joking. Sorry, I'm a bit jealous hahaha.
To Branyan: Whew, I am glad that you are already on your way and you already have a job lined up. That is my biggest issue kasi: I am very anxious and afraid that after passing the exam, there might be a visa retrogression or lack of employment opportunities in Australia or whatever.
I am really relieved that everything is going quite well with you. It means that it is possible for us to follow the same path as yours. I hope to pass the QNC exams also and get a job in Australia (so I can also have shrieking fans like Ms Gemma over here hahaha. Starstruck to the highest level).
Guys,
I am still waiting for my QNC assessment, and using the waiting time to study. I am praying hard to the Lord that QNC will accept my application (I am a second courser. Do they accept second coursers in Queensland? I hope so. I have good work experience with a well-known hospital here in Manila, so I do hope that will also be considered), but at the same time I am counting the days because as I told you before, my coworkers' papers to Canada are already moving.
For my part, I turned down the offer to work in Canada because I have always dreamed of going to and working in Australia ever since I was a little boy. I might have been crazy to turn down the offer, but in that case, I followed my heart and not my mind.
It really was a gamble on my part. I am doing everything that I can so that the gamble will pay off. More prayers and more study hours, so I can work in Australia someday and serve Australian patients to the best of my abilities.
hello guys,
i just want to share what i have read, i am a 2nd courser as well but eligible to take the cas in qld...i just didnt understand why a 2nd courser somewhere who posted within this topic assessed to be just an enrolled nurse in qld...what i want to share...if you want to be sure to be eligible to undergo a cas especially the 2nd courser--then you can go for the anmc assessment- they will let you submit the transcript or syllabus from prc-it is a 15 pages syllabus for nurses to be taken from our prc or can be requested from prc and let them submit directly to anmc- please check on that...i am not really sure about it- then request anmc to submit it to state board of nursing..or probably enquire the state board of nursing if they accept it as a supporting documents together with tor...to minimize expenses....any reaction please
to phoenix rising,
please never insult me in this forum, i feel greatly humiliated by ur posting.
u are not a doctor like doc branyan, and u have not to control my great admiration for doc branyan who is very proud for me to be d very very first filipino doctor to pass the nurse in bundaberg.
do not compare urself to doc branyan because he is my great insipiration to be registered also in australia. just like joe turtle i admire them very greatly. i wish them great great success in our profession.

Actually, her case is different. Even if you are not a second courser, there is a chance that you will be assessed as eligible to take the CAS for "ENs" instead of "RNs" because of several factors. One of the major factors that could affect this is the School/University/College where you have graduated from and their Nursing Curiculum. Remember, they have standards they need to follow and the education you have received will be compared to these standards. Not all Universities/Colleges in the Philippines is recognised as at par with an Australian University. So in short, not all bachelor degrees in the Philippines is considered or equivalent to an Australian bachelor's degree - some bachelor's degree are only considered as a diploma. This is true not only for Nursing education, but for all other courses offered in the Philippines.
Another factor they might consider, if ever you don't satisfy their educational requirement, is your experience as a Nurse. This can play a big role to your application should you need more evidence/information to strengthen your application for registration as RN and not as EN.
There is really no need to go to ANMC first, as ANMC is mainly for migration purposes and the state board is the regulatory board for Nurses in Australia. The state board still has the right to decide whether the applicant is deemed to be competent to practice as RN or as an EN only.
To Aelith:Oh, okay. That is a relief. Let us hope that opportunities for RNs will not be affected by the global economic downturn.
Let us hope that everything turns out well. Good luck to all of us! Anyway, I have to go back to studying. Gnyt!
Demand for Nurses can rise and fall, however, there will always be a steady need for us - either to replace the retiring nurses or to fill up extra positions. The opportunities for RNs will depend mainly on the Supply vs Demand ratio.
But I do hope that at least things would work out for all of us here - maybe not at the same time, but, in due time everyone will be successful. :)
Goodluck to everyone!
Aelith

If you don't mind, I'll try to answer your question about not undergoing a CAS. As far as I know, only those who had post-grad experience have the chance to register without undergoing CAS. I have a friend who had post-grad experience in the Philippines and who also graduated from a reputable University in PI but still had to undergo CAS.
Those who stand a good chance in getting registered without undergoing a BP are those who had their education in US/UK/Canada and those who have practiced there and in other countries which have the same standard of practice to that of Australia.
