Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
With what happened to one of our forumers, yes, we really should try to be more careful with our posts (note to self). I am very sorry that Ms Gemma felt insulted, but that was not my goal although it came across that way. I hope you accept my apology. Still wishing you the best of luck in your application to Australia.
I think I will also try not to use allnurses for a while because our posts really does affect our lives, doesn't it? I realized it slowly and only just now. What happened to one of our forumers is really quite scary, and it is also a lesson learned that the Internet is not as anonymous as we would first believe.
So I might also withdraw from allnurses for a few months (until everything cools down) because we don't want our opportunities to be ruined because of what we say.
But I don't want to leave with a sour taste in my mouth. So Ms Gemma. Once again, my sincere apologies. To all the forumers, good luck to all of us.

yes.probably there are variations of our curriculum here in the Philipines but to recapitulate things those legally completed the course successfully complied the standards of our higher education and prc as they allowed us to take the exam. And this syllabus is our standard of education in prc where you can obtain it.
ANMC is for migration purposes but they are an assessing body as well. They will tell you as suitable and not suitable for migration, and then will tell you to undergo cas in state board of your choice if your not eligible formigration. Some state will accept that but others will not as state board has each autonomy-of course ideally they are the first line of approach in order to work. Afterall their basis of assessment is taken from anmc. This is not really recommended as it is expensive and a double job. Afterall, you will just be assessed as not elgible for migration for the moment but at least eligible to undergo cas if you graduated from the Phil not unless if you have experience outside. Why ANMC because they accept syllabus in lieu of tor if you have none, or similarly if you may not, or probably as supporting doc. I think, they want to see uniform standard as we have a variety of curriculum. Western Australia is accepting that as well. Please check that in their websites. And who knows if we enquire regarding this matter to concerned state board, probably, they will consider it also or may not.. other option, why not go for reassessment in another state, then wait and see.
In my own opinion, as long as you pass the prc board exam, you are as competent as the rest and not merely by chance. Therefore should be treated equally, I supposed.
What I am writing here anyway still need validation...just read it for mutual agreement...Besides it is beyond our control whatever decision they may have. At least, this is just intended for discusion

I agree with what you have stated. That is really some of the choices that these concerned people (assessed as EN) should take into consideration. They can either appeal or try to apply in another state for assessment.
I agree too in what you stated that when one has passed the local board exam, he/she is considered as competent as the rest of those who passed. However, each country has their own set of regulations and standards to follow and therefore, such variations are strictly reviewed and assessed. I understand that it would seem unfair for those who have been assessed as EN instead of RN. It is not really their fault that the education they received was not up to the standards of the state board. However, we should also keep in mind, that letting those concerned qualify for an RN license instead of EN might also mean unfair for them. They make the rules and we just follow.
But with that said, I would really suggest that these people try to apply for assessment in another state or try to have a re-assessment (if possible). If, by any chance, he/she will be assessed differently in another state then that is good - you can transfer you license to the state where you really intend to work after that anyway.
I say don't loose hope. I know it will be an expensive path to take, but, I think it will all be worth a try. :) Exhaust all possible choices you have. It's harder to regret in the end that we just didn't try - it could've made a difference.

I, personally, don't think that your post was offensive - it was more of a joke for me and nothing serious about it. However, I guess some people might take it in a different way. I hope everything will be okay.
About your other concern. I don't think you should let go of the forum just because of what happened in the other thread. He just went into too much details of the exam that is why. However, discussions on the process, visa, etc, in general, in my opinion, is not bad. You can choose to lurk here and read what people post - it can still help you. :)

Dear Gemma,
I think you misunderstood it - try to lighten up a bit. I was not referring to your posts but to his which I felt was just a mere form of humor. What I meant was the way he put his words and not pertaining to your posts. Nobody's trying to stop you from admiring anyone - that is your privilege. That is my opinion alone and if that insulted you, then my apology but that is not intended to you.
About joe turle, I don't think me saying that he posted more than enough information would mean inconsiderate. That is the basis of what happened and I do feel sorry for him. I have not been visiting that specific thread because I have been busy with this thread since this is where I started. And I don't think it is fair as well to say that everybody here exploited him. I for one did not; but still sympathize with what has happened to him. I agree though, that he was just trying to help the posters as what I have been doing in this thread since August 2008. And I am sure that he had no idea that whatever he posted in the CAS thread, later on was going to be a big problem for him. It was all a shock for us - a friend just told me about it since I do not frequent that thread. It never crossed my mind, that by merely posting here, we will be in big trouble. Initially, I was scared as I have been doing the same thing for a really long time and I know that he feels so bad right now. Since, I don't have any contact details of Mr. Joe, I have not been able to talk to him about it.
If you have the time to read through all the pages in this thread, you would notice how nice the people are in here. These people might be quiet at times but it doesn't mean that they don't care about what's happening with the others. I know of several people who have absolutely no idea of what has happened - especially those who used to post here. I understand how you feel, but you really don't need to be too mad at us here.
So, if it's okay with you. Let's try leave that part (the misunderstanding about the admiration post) and start anew. If ever you do need any help, you are very much welcome to post here.

hey guys i have a question to those who applied for queensland au:ill be starting my application and currently have 0 nursing experience..
1) did you tick registration? or enrollment? to the question "what are you applying for?"?
as far as i know, registration is equivalent to rns and enrollment for ens (enrolled nurses). so, you should tick registration.
2) how should i answer the question to "most recent practice"? since i have 0 experience? not applicable or leave it blank???
you can state there that you not practiced yet.
3) since i have no experience should i answer this:
i have not practised as a nurse/midwife within the previous
5 years or am unable to declare that i am competent to practise.
4)and lastly do i need to supply a written explanation to why i currently do not have any nursing experience?you could but i don't think it is required.
thanks to those who are willing to help me.. i have 0 clue on the application process and i cannot afford the overpriced agency charge/fee..
please.. please help
god bless you

Hey Ms Gemma,
Hey there. I am not insulting anybody, including you. I am sorry if you felt that way. Branyan and Joeturtle are inspirations for me too (possible for other people as well). My sincere apologies...let us ask the moderator to edit my comment okay? And I am sorry too, because of your National Medical Exam results. I hope that you will find success in Australia.
I am new to forums, and I am slowly realizing the vast potential of forums, not only to be helpful to those who use it, but also to cause damage to the lives of those who are not careful with the content of their posts. So yes, I will try to be more careful with the content of my posts.
I was not trying to insult you Ms Gemma. I was only trying to inject some humor. I hope you will accept my sincere apologies.
