New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi from Australia,:wink2:

I´m a BSN 1980 CPU graduate of Iloilo City. Worked in Germany in Aged Care which I enjoyed so much. Since 2007 we moved back to Australia to live because my husband got a job here. Anyway, coming here as a International Reg. Nurse, you have to pass an IELTS test with the Band score of 7 out of 9. 6.5 for Listening and Reading, and 7.0 for writing and speaking. So I suggest

that you get your IELTS ACADEMIC test first in the Philippines. Get into the

Australian website for sponsorship visa. Nurses are in high demand here in

Australia. Get all your papers ready, Registration papers from PRC, transcript

of records from Uni, Birth certificate. The Nursing Board here requires either

Sponsorship or Residence Visa. Hospitals here are flooded with filipino nurses.

Good luck !:yeah:

hi paui!.. i suggest that you visit the website of NMBWA and you will be able to see there all the requirements that you need to forward to them. the application form can also be downloaded from the website, as well as the approved course providers by the Nursing Board.. hope this helps :)

for those who were given visa 456, how much money was in your bank accounts during the time that you applied for the visa?

hi branyan, just wanna ask when did you lodge your 457 application? i just wanna have an idea of how long it takes to obtain your 457 visa... thanks and good luck..

hi! i submitted my 457 application online (e457) last feb.23 and it's still being processed, they've already asked asked us (my family) to have our medicals and boy they were quick because i received their request for health exam only a day after i submitted my application.. from what i gathered, as per my friends' experiences, theirs took around almost 3 months, i'm hoping mine would be finished sooner or much quicker as i did an online application.

Abiding by the protocol of this forum, please follow different avenues where you could obtain your reference books, CQU Bookshop has them, including ebay. Personal emails, telephones should not be posted in the website.

this what happened in my case...

if i get my qld license, can i start working using a 456 visa while waiting for my 457 visa to push through, or do i have to wait for the 457, either in australia or in the philippines?

456 only lets you do the following:

attend to business activities in australia including conferences, business negotiations or exploratory business visits

be allowed to engage in limited work, if for example it is highly specialised and non-ongoing

hence if you plan to work permanently, you will need to apply for a 457; to be able to apply for this visa, you must have an employer that will sponsor and nominate you for a certain position (rn), only after getting the approval of your employers nomination and sponsorship by diac you can apply for a 457.

you should also consider that a 456 only lets you stay for up to 3 months only..according to diac, they are able to process 457 visas in 3 months, 75% of the time, this means you would have to wait for a minimum of 3 months to be granted a 457 (also keep in mind the time needed for filing the nomination and sponsorship). so given this situation it's possible that you'll used up your visa stay before you get your 457. i'm not sure if a bridging visa or subclass 050 can apply in this case. please take this with a grain of salt, this is not an immigration expert's advice.:D

branyan provided correct information for your queries but i would like to add some more to clarify your main concern regarding staying in australia or in philippines for the 457 processing.

it is true that a 456 visa is only valid for 3 months per stay (multiple entry or single entry). however, if you are able to lodge your application for a 457 visa whilst in australia, before your previous 456 visa expires, you will automatically be given a bridging visa a ( as far as i know) when your 456 visa expires. this bridging visa will allow you to stay in australia legally while your 457 visa is being processed. if, for some reason, you want to go back to philippines and wait there while your 457 visa is being processed, you can apply for a bridging visa b which will let you travel in and out of australia.

if, however, you weren't able to lodge your 457 visa before your 456 visa expires, then you would most definitely go back to the philippines and file the 457 visa from there.

hope that helps a bit. :)
