Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
^ There are people who sent their application Dec and Jan, and haven't gotten their go signal yet. They acknowledged my application Feb 27, So you could be my "application partner". The waiting time is I think 3-4 months now. Keep me (and the rest of us) posted on your application!
oki doki! My gosh! its really that long huh?! I read a few threads back that the waiting time is around 2 1/2 months for those who submitted last year.. Gosh! I hope it will be that fast for us. I have not yet heard from them. My only concern is I sent my verification of license via snail mail (20 days accdng to PRC). I am banging my head now for not opting for FEDEX which costs 1200 I think. Argh!
Word of advice by the way for those who are applying for verification of license in PRC. If you are not from Manila, if you have some financial resources, better do your verification in PRC Manila. After applying for verification, they will ask you to return after one week. By then, everything is done and ready to be sent to OZ. They will ask you what mode of sending will you like to choose. Please choose the fast mode (i think its fedex). Don't be like me who is a tightwad.. hahahaha! Now I am suffering in anguish wishing I sent it via the fast way..
MR KOWALSKA: It's me again. Your posts are very helpful and informative. Thank you very much. But I do have several questions more.
1. After passing the Part B, how long will it take before I get my QLD License so I can look for an RN job? If I get my QLD license, can I start working using a 456 visa while waiting for my 457 visa to push through, or do I have to wait for the 457, either in Australia or in the Philippines?
2. Do you have your QLD license already? Where do you work, if it's okay for me to ask. Just interested. Was wondering if you had a hard time looking for an employer who will sponsor you. Or you are Australian so you do not need any sponsor? Are you Filipino?
3. From start (lodging of QNC application) to finish (getting an RN job in Queensland and working), how long did the whole process take you? Also, how many months did you have to wait for QLD's assessment before you were able to take the Part A exam?
I think that would be all for now. AGain, thanks for all you info. You have been very very helpful to all of us...
DOLCEVITARN: What is the exact date did QNC receive your application in December? I emailed them and they said that they are already assessing applications from December 1, 2008, so your assessment is probably near. Tell us naman if and when you receive your assessment results ha? Because my application follows yours by only a few weeks. When you receive yours, Id probably (hopefully) receive mine after a few weeks too.
@phoenix rising
this what happened in my case...
1. after passing the part b, how long will it take before i get my qld license so i can look for an rn job?
cas sent their recommendation letter monday to qnc, qnc received the letter wednesday, qnc sent me an email to pay for my license the same day, paid them thru credit card friday, saw my name in the qnc registry tuesday of the following week. received my certificate of registration, id, badge thru post 2 weeks after paying for my license.
if i get my qld license, can i start working using a 456 visa while waiting for my 457 visa to push through, or do i have to wait for the 457, either in australia or in the philippines?
456 only lets you do the following:
attend to business activities in australia including conferences, business negotiations or exploratory business visits
be allowed to engage in limited work, if for example it is highly specialised and non-ongoing
hence if you plan to work permanently, you will need to apply for a 457; to be able to apply for this visa, you must have an employer that will sponsor and nominate you for a certain position (rn), only after getting the approval of your employers nomination and sponsorship by diac you can apply for a 457.
you should also consider that a 456 only lets you stay for up to 3 months only..according to diac, they are able to process 457 visas in 3 months, 75% of the time, this means you would have to wait for a minimum of 3 months to be granted a 457 (also keep in mind the time needed for filing the nomination and sponsorship). so given this situation it's possible that you'll used up your visa stay before you get your 457. i'm not sure if a bridging visa or subclass 050 can apply in this case. please take this with a grain of salt, this is not an immigration expert's advice.
Thanks Branyan. I just want to make sure that I understand everything so I can make the right decisions regarding my Australia application and my present job. I do not want to resign from my present job until everything is "plantsado" as we call in the Philippines ("ironed out" in English?)
Have you already found a job in Australia and started working?
Anyway, I am still waiting for my QNC assessment hehehe, thinking too much into the future. Need to pass the Part A first!
Actually, what I'd like to know is if there is anyone out there who fulfills the following characterisitcs:
1. Is a Filipino and a Philippine-educated nurse, with or without work experience.
2. Who took the QLD Competency Assessment and went through the process, and passed, and is blessed enough to acquire a QLD RN license.
3. Has acquired a 457 visa (not a family-sponsored visa or whatever). As in he should have started from scratch, like most of the people in this forum. But he has now reached the other end of the line, and he has finished while most of us are onyl starting.
4. (Probably MOST important of all because this is the reason why we are going through this process in the first place) Was able to find a hospital sponsor, has already started a paying and stable RN job in Australia.
I realize that (as far as this thread is concerned) all of us are focusing on how to get assessed in Queensland, what documents to submit, how to pass the QLD exams, and how to get a QLD RN license. But we also fail to ask questions regarding the employment situation for nurses in Queensland.
I really did learn some lessons regarding the NCLEX. I went through the whole process, I passed it, and guess what, I am still here in the Philippines! (Like thousands of others who used to have the luxury of optimism, but are now fermenting in frustration here in the Philippines).
I have also received several PMs from several people (some of whom are even in the US already) who have passed the NCLEX and already have their US RN licenses, and they still have trouble finding a job there. People always say that there is a global nursing shortage, but why is it that there are some who have trouble finding stable jobs? Both in Australia and in the US, why is it that people who followed the prescribed recipe end up with a different and less tasty dish?
I don't mean to dampen anyone's optimism here, I don't want to be the raincloud in a thread that obviously bubbles with optimism and excitement for a brighter future in the sun-kissed lands of Australia (Australian Dreams or whatever), but I really want a reality check. I want to look at the real picture, not just bright promises that will only end up as promises.
I think someone with the four characterisitics named above should share his stories and experiences with the rest of us in this forum. Please be honest and enlighten us what is probably in store for us. I believe that only someone who went through the same predicaments that we are going through could really help us and inform us and teach us.
Are you out there?
I am sorry for not being as optimistic as most of the people in this forum. It's just that I don't want to be disappointed anymore. With the hope, energy, and money that I am investing in Australia, I really can't afford to be disappointed anymore (financially, probably even emotionally!).
So please, any Filipino-educated nurse out there who went through the Wall and managed to survive AND get an RN job in Australia, please step up and share your experiences.
