from center for nursing advocacy:
new abc show "miracle workers" to feature two real nurses: will one of them be you?[/url]
abc television/dreamworks is beginning production on a new network "reality" show named "miracle workers." as we understand it, each episode will feature a team of health professionals who will tackle a new patient's health problems in a manner similar to "extreme home makeover" or "queer eye for the straight guy." abc has asked for the center's help in finding nurses for the "host medical team" that will guide viewers from show to show, perhaps like the fab five. this team is slated to include two nurses, one therapist/social worker and one physician. surgical teams will also be consulting. click here to learn how to apply.

You're not gonna believe this.......but I actually applied! Of course, they'll probably pick a couple of young, pretty nurses long before they'd take an overweight, middle-aged grandmother-to-be, but what the heck, I've got nothing to lose by trying, right? :chuckle

Please don't nominate me. :rotfl: I know the LTC facility expects all us nurses to be "miracle workers." The only "miracle" is that we keep showing up at these LTC facilities. I would love to see a "reality TV show" in a LTC. :chuckle Of course, I don't expect to see one soon. I guess they don't want to be sued.

Bad idea for a show imo.
Marla, you'd be perfect though. I'd pick you over some young hottie any day!

Really? I've been sitting here considering it. Probably the biggest downside is that it may give viewers the impression that healthcare problems can be "solved" very easily in one episode. But I say that not knowing how they are going to implement this "makeover". I like the idea that they are showcasing a team to help the patient get control of their health versus the current perception in the media which gives the FALSE, false, FALSE impression that the physician makes all the decisions without input from anyone else. If it shows people getting the tools to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle changes with the guidance of their healthcare team, I think it could be a good thing.

I would be on this show, if I could accurately be portrayed as a caring professional nurse and to highlight nursing in a positive manner.

WOW, it is great that they are including a nurse in this program. Maybe this is sign that the networks are starting to update their image of nurses.
