Nevada NCLEX-RN Application - Fresh International Graduate

World Registration

Published

I went to Middle School and High School in California. I also had a one semester in College there. Eventually, I decided to move back to Philippines and finish my college. Obviously, I took up nursing.

I just graduated last April 2013 in the Philippines. I am a dual citizen - US and PHL. I've read and heard about the new law in Nevada wherein local license is required. Since I am a fresh a BSN graduate, I do not have a local license yet but I have no plan on taking the PNLE.

However, I still decided to apply in Nevada. I already started my CGFNS and planning to take TOEFL exam asap. I also passed my application papers then received my fingerprinting forms few days after.

My brother, a US citizen, took his NCLEX right after his graduation and passed it first time in California. As far as I remember it was during 2009 so he was lucky that he did not go to the strict and harder application process nowadays especially in California.

He suggested that I still should try in Nevada despite of the new law as do the same thing he did when he applied in California. Wherein, when the BON looks or/and asks for your license, the best way is to send them a letter explaining that you do not plan to work there (PHL) and you are a US citizen. By the way, I have two brothers who have done this and it worked.

The Nevada BON sent another letter to me saying that they are waiting for my CGFNS and TOEFL results. So far, I am going with the flow and plan to give it a shot.

Any suggestions?

Do you think that I'm doing the right thing or wasting my time and money as well? Feel free to comment. Thanks.

I apply on Nv Bon also but mine they only require me to take a class for my med surg , im on the waiting list right now . hopefully i can get a slot for their class.

hi.. I applied in NV BON last year and unfortunately they didnt give me an ATT.. They told me to take medsurg and ob classes first before they'll let me take the nclex..

how come they required u to take some classes again? Its about concurrency issue?

no.. it's not about the concurrency. they said that i lack hours of ob and med surg but i have it evaluated by cgfns and their report said that it's equivalent to BSN here in US.. So they told me to take some OB and MS classes and after that they will let me take the NCLEX.

oh so you got the new curriculum if you graduated last year. Were you denied also in California about the concurrency?

I was planning to apply in Ca but when I was doing some research about the application it brought me here in allnurses and I read a lot of Filipino applicants were denied. I contacted my school but then our dean sent me a message advising not to apply in Cali as she knows about the foreign grad applicants being denied by CABRN because of the concurrency issue.

NV closing their application process, I would call them directly to see if this is still true (as of June, 2013): https://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/applying-nclex-rn-841563.html Click and read before submitting your money and application.

atom2013,

hows your application in Nevada?

pnaypie,

I decided to change my application to Texas last June. I believe it's better and easier. I am actually already unofficially eligible to take the exam two weeks ago. All I just have to do is register to pearsonvue and pay the fee then wait for my ATT one or more days after. Goodluck!

Hello all! I was born and raised in California, USA. It was not until my sophomore year in college when I decided to go to the Philippines to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree because of the long wait lists in the United States. I graduated and returned in 2011. Since then, I have been trying to apply for the NCLEX in California. As many of you know already, the BRN in California is requesting for mostly all international nursing graduates to repeat OB and Med-Surg courses due to concurrency issues. I was blessed to have found an accredited school facility to allow me to take an Obstetrics course. I am now waiting for a Med-Surg class and need one by Aug 2014 before the BRN discards my application. I may have found a school facility who would be able to open a course for international nursing graduates who are looking to take the Medical-Surgical course, but they want to know that there will be people who want to enroll for the class. It will be based in San Diego, California. Please reply on this forum: https://allnurses.com/world-nursing/international-bsn-graduate-857818.html if you are interested!
