Nevada NCLEX-RN Application - Fresh International Graduate

Published

I went to Middle School and High School in California. I also had a one semester in College there. Eventually, I decided to move back to Philippines and finish my college. Obviously, I took up nursing.

I just graduated last April 2013 in the Philippines. I am a dual citizen - US and PHL. I've read and heard about the new law in Nevada wherein local license is required. Since I am a fresh a BSN graduate, I do not have a local license yet but I have no plan on taking the PNLE.

However, I still decided to apply in Nevada. I already started my CGFNS and planning to take TOEFL exam asap. I also passed my application papers then received my fingerprinting forms few days after.

My brother, a US citizen, took his NCLEX right after his graduation and passed it first time in California. As far as I remember it was during 2009 so he was lucky that he did not go to the strict and harder application process nowadays especially in California.

He suggested that I still should try in Nevada despite of the new law as do the same thing he did when he applied in California. Wherein, when the BON looks or/and asks for your license, the best way is to send them a letter explaining that you do not plan to work there (PHL) and you are a US citizen. By the way, I have two brothers who have done this and it worked.

The Nevada BON sent another letter to me saying that they are waiting for my CGFNS and TOEFL results. So far, I am going with the flow and plan to give it a shot.

Any suggestions?

Do you think that I'm doing the right thing or wasting my time and money as well? Feel free to comment. Thanks.

atom2013 I have schoolmates that have their own schedules for NCLEX Hawaii. So we had a plan to stay at my cousins old house, so we could just share for electric, etc. to lessen all our expenses. What I also like about Hawaii is that they need an SSN, not all international students can get it easily. My brother by the way applied for Nevada, his applied last February for Nevada CGFNS, he only got the reply first week of May. and now he's taking a TOEFL review. He has Ph license and it took him 3 follow ups for his papers. just a heads up :) Good luck to us! I hope we can get it! but I also have back ups in case i get denied :)

Good for you but do you mean that Hawaii does not need SSN? I am planning to take the TOEFL exam this June. Hopefully, everything will go well. But it's still better to have back up. Good luck to us and all international graduates out there. :)

Hawaii needs a SSN not all international graduate can get that, you must be a US citizen to actually get an ssn. So it's not that hard to compete with other international graduates and it's easy to get an ATT :)

Oh I see. I don't have any problems with the requirements regarding that. I am a US citizen and I already have a SSN. It's just that I want to get ATT from a state wherein I have relatives. But I don't have any from Hawaii even though I think that is the easiest state BON.

FYI, I just learned someone who graduated late last year that applied in March that had their Philippine local license requirement waived for Nevada.

Did she able to take the exam without her Philippine local license?

She hasn't take NCLEX yet.

She hasn't take NCLEX yet.

So she was able to receive an ATT from Nevada BON although she does not have a local license? I applied last month. Hopefully, mine will go well.

Honestly, I don't know any details. I just know that Nevada BON waived the Philippine licensure requirement.

Was she a USC or dual-citizen?

atom2013,

hows your application in Nevada?

There's been a recent posting (June) that the NV BON is no longer accepting foreign applications, don't know if that's true or not, but definitely call them before sending any monies and a waste of time if that's really the case.

hi.. I applied in NV BON last year and unfortunately they didnt give me an ATT.. They told me to take medsurg and ob classes first before they'll let me take the nclex..
