I went to Middle School and High School in California. I also had a one semester in College there. Eventually, I decided to move back to Philippines and finish my college. Obviously, I took up nursing.
I just graduated last April 2013 in the Philippines. I am a dual citizen - US and PHL. I've read and heard about the new law in Nevada wherein local license is required. Since I am a fresh a BSN graduate, I do not have a local license yet but I have no plan on taking the PNLE.
However, I still decided to apply in Nevada. I already started my CGFNS and planning to take TOEFL exam asap. I also passed my application papers then received my fingerprinting forms few days after.
My brother, a US citizen, took his NCLEX right after his graduation and passed it first time in California. As far as I remember it was during 2009 so he was lucky that he did not go to the strict and harder application process nowadays especially in California.
He suggested that I still should try in Nevada despite of the new law as do the same thing he did when he applied in California. Wherein, when the BON looks or/and asks for your license, the best way is to send them a letter explaining that you do not plan to work there (PHL) and you are a US citizen. By the way, I have two brothers who have done this and it worked.
The Nevada BON sent another letter to me saying that they are waiting for my CGFNS and TOEFL results. So far, I am going with the flow and plan to give it a shot.
Any suggestions?
Do you think that I'm doing the right thing or wasting my time and money as well? Feel free to comment. Thanks.
Hi everyone, Im a recent grad from the Philippines also and I am a registered nurse there from this past June 2-3,2013 board exam. I just applied with CGFNS and all my credentials from my school and PRC were just put together and is about to be mailed back to CGFNS from the Philippines. I did speak to someone from the Nevada BON where I am applying for the NCLEX and they told me that I do still need to take the TOEFL or Pearson since I am an international grad, though I am not a USC yet I am a US resident with a SSN. I have lived in in California for 19 years just before going back to the Philippines in 2009 for Nursing school and now I'm back. It really pains me that I can't practice here in California due to the concurrency issues just like most of those in this thread but I have high hopes for Nevada. I just have to ready my self for the TOEFL. Any suggestions from those who have taken and passed the TOEFL on how to prepare for it and what you found to be the most challenging portion? My English reading, writing and speaking are honed down pretty well since I graduated middle school, high school, and have college background here in the states. Thanks! and good luck to us all
pnaypie,I decided to change my application to Texas last June. I believe it's better and easier. I am actually already unofficially eligible to take the exam two weeks ago. All I just have to do is register to pearsonvue and pay the fee then wait for my ATT one or more days after. Goodluck!
hi do texas bon required ssn, english and needs to have a license where you graduated?
hi there, in which state did you apply? im currently looking for a state that dont require ssn and english. can you please advice me. i heard Ny is a good option since they also dont require local license?
Even if you get an RN licensed issued to you, what will do to find a US job? Without having a valid SS# that's work authorized (not just the one that allows you to drive or open a US bank account) or having a current working visa, when you apply for any US job, the application form asks "Are you legally able to work in the States"?
Should you get hired by chance, the HR or payroll dept. will need a copy of your SS# card (of which many employers will submit the numbers thru the E-Verify system to make sure it's a working SS#), if you don't have the proper one, they will not be able to hire you.
Since you're looking for other states to qualify for the NCLEX-RN and picked NY, do you plan to start planting your roots in NY and raise a family there? If not, then trying to endorse any out of state license into a state that clearly requires a SS# as a requirement and or if you don't have a valid foreign nursing license, you will find that NY will be your destination work place for many years.
If you plan to try to endorse into a concurrency enforcing state such as CA, you will still have to meet the educational requirements of the CA BRN which means having to make up the deficient courses before they will approve of the endorsement.
As far as not having a valid nursing license from where you obtained the BSN degree from means another reason for some BON's to decline the application, whether it's a first-time or endorsement, such as CA.
can somebody help me?? i passed the PNLE but was not able to process my license. i applied for california board exam but was rejected even i included my PNLE exam result and sent to them. they said i need to take the whole program again according to their evaluation. would you think i would get the same result if i apply to nevada? somebody??? help???
