Hi Everyone,
Need some advice and suggestions, I have been on the waiting list for the RN program for almost 3 years and last month I got a call from the college telling me that I was #86 on the list and I wouldn't make it in this class but maybe the next one, well then I got a call yesterday that for one reasons or another that some people were not able to start on September 18th and that I could have a seat in the class, well at first I was so happy the day finally came and I would be a RN, I am currently a LVN working at a local hospital on the maternity floor, but then she told me I have until tomorrow by 12noon to make up my mind or they will give my seat to the next person. I really want to do this, but I am a single mom of 3 children and I would have to go part-time and not sure if I could make it finacially. Plus I will be given my job less than a week notice and the schedule is already made thru the end of October. I would hate to loos my job all together. Someone told me that there are people who will sponser nurses trying to go back to school? Does anyone now about sponsorship? And what do you think I should do? When a finished LVN and was scared to take the boards everyone on allnurses helped me thru the stress and gave me helpful advice, so I'm back for some more advice. Thanks Again Everyone,

Gosh - I would sure try to take the seat:
1. Do you have family nearby that could help with childcare?
2. Is the father in the picture? Maybe he could help out?
3. Have another single mom student trade daycare with you?
4. Hire a college student for daycare?
5. Rent out a bedroom in your home to another nursing student.
6. Student loans - take out enough to live on for the year.
7. See what tuition assistance your hospital offers.
Good luck and take care.

DO IT!
See suggestions above re: how you can make this work. Getting into nursing school is kinda like being pregnant - hard to plan and it tends to just happen. :wink2:
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Maybe you could get some type of public assistance to help while you are in school. Many people dont like to do this but you are trying to better yourself so I dont see a problem with getting a little help. You could check with your local deptartment of health and human resources. I know in my state you can get child care assistance, rental assistance, and food stamps if your income qualifys.
Yeah, I did that. I had a lot of public help while I was in school. It may take a little time for some of those things to start. So talk to your NM and work something out. I can't imagine that she or he wouldn't be TOTALLY supportive, esp when they would likely be gaining an RN when school is done.
Congrats on getting the seat if that is what you truely want.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further your education and increase your earning potential, so I would do it without thinking twice. If there's a will there's a way. Go for it!
