I am planning on attending Rio Grande next year for the LPN-RN program. Several of the nurses at my facility have done this program and speak very highly of it.

At my facility the lab comes to pick up the urine around 5am. The night shift collects it so that it is a fresher sample than if day shift collected it and left it in the fridge all day.

I have never heard of that site but I ordered mine through allheart.com and it was only 125.49 and an additional 14.98 to have my name stamped into the tubing.

At my facility the family has to give 48 hours notice of taking the patient home. Then we must order enough medication from the pharmacy for their planned stay and the pharmacy delivers enough medication in regular pill bottles with the dispensing label on each. They look the same as if you got a script from a pharmacy but only contain the appropiate amount of medication that will be needed for the stay.

I had this same problem. If the school you go to accepts student loans maybe you could qualify for a federaly backed student loan. If not and you have good credit maybe you could get a personal loan or home equity loan with small payments that you could afford while in school. Another thing is some churches will give scholarships for nurses. Some people in my class got all their school paid for and even got 500.00 monthly allowance to be used on anything from a local church. I know you are not in my area but maybe there is something similar in your area. Have you tried talking with the director of the nursing program? They may know of scholarships or other assistance that past students have gotten. Or you may be able to work out a payment plan with the school. Ours school cost around 4000.00 and payments were 400.00 monthly. Also some hospitals and nursing homes will sponsor you to go to school in exchange for you working for them for a specified amoumt of time after graduation. Good luck!!!

I had my gallbladder removed when I was 19 laproscopically. Went in at 7am first case of the day and was at home on the couch by noon. The surgery it self was nothing compared to the attacks that came before it. I was prepared to go to my exhusbands high school prom and had already bought a 2 piece dress so I refused to have the surgery and suffered with attacks for 6 months until after the prom becouse did not want the scar to show. Now that I know better I would have had the surgery immediatly and lived with the scar showing as it is barely visable.

I went to school last year and worked full time. My school was from 7:45 am-3:15 pm mon-fri and I worked from 4:00pm-12midnight tues-fri and 11:00am-12 midnight on Sat. My only day off was on sunday when I would read and study for all the tests that were scheduled for the next week. At first I did not think I would ever be able to graduate but I did and my lowest grade overall was a 87% in anatomy. In the end I was glad that I did this becouse 3 weeks before graduation my employer locked the doors and moved out of state with no notice leaving over 400 people with out a job. Thanks to my hard work I knew I would be able to get a LPN job right out of school making twice the amount I was making. While all my coworkers were worried about fighting to find a equaly paying job in my area. This also made me realize that no job is guarenteed to be there tommarow but when you are a nurse there will be a job somewhere.

Was it possible that the patient was a "drug seeker" and thought that complaining of more leg pain would get more drugs in return? Maybe the doctor was aware of something like this in the patients past and that is why he chose to release her quickly. Three times in one week to go to the ER for pain meds seems like alot to me.

Does anyone know where I can buy a pair of zcoils? I would love to try them but the closest store that I can find is about 2 1/2 hours away. I know the web site says they are supposed to be fitted but is there anywhere the can be bought online? I searched and only found lists of stores that sell them. I also checked EBAY but there were none in my size.

I know this is a little off topic but in this thread and many others everyone is talking about how great zcoil shoes are. Where can these be purchased? I looked up their web site and there are no stores in my area. The closest is about 2 1/2 hours away. All the other web sites talk about them but I have not found any where they can be ordered. I suffer with plantar facitis also and have found that the berkenstocks and crocs alternated back and forth work very well but would love to try and add zcoils to the mix. edited to add- I have tried ebay but there are none in my size

At my local hospital where I did clinicals they did not put conf patients in private rooms. Instead they got to pick a alias. When a nurse went into the room to give meds or do something with the baby the alias was always used and no one ever mentioned the real name. Most of the time no one but the business office even knew the patients real name becouse the alias was used in place of the real name on all the charting and everything else.

I recently started work at a ltc after swearing through out school that I would never step foot back into one. There is a lol there that has no visitors and according to some of the other nurses she is the last survivor in her family so there is no one to come to visit. She is one of the most happy lol I have ever met. In her mind her parents stop by daily to visit and her sister likes to go to the bar next door. The bar next door is actully a church.

I am a LPN who just started a new job at a LTC I am working with the CNA's to learn patients names and rooms before starting as a LPN and passing meds. Yesterday I worked with the head cna who never wore gloves or washed her hands. When a resident said their bed was wet she would run her bare across it then smell it to see if it was urine then proceed to change the bed and go onto the next patients room with out washing her hands. I made it a point to put on gloves and wash my hands right in front or her and she would look at me like I was doing something wrong. I even said sarcastically sorry I have to take the time to put on gloves and wash my hands but I am jsut sort of addicted to that. She said well I cant wear them I cant tell if a bed is really wet or not with them on.

I knew a woman who had a rupture after her second birth lady partsl birth. The father noticed she seemed to be acting different and was bleeding alot. It was his first birth experiance. He asked the nurses if something seemed wrong. They assured him it was perfectly normal to act that way after delivery. When they went to transfer her from the delivery room to the mother baby post partum rooms the bed was full of blood underneith of her. They ran over 80 units of blood through her on the way to surgery and afterwards. She did survive but unfortunalty had suffered brain damage and doesnt remember being pregnate of having the baby. She claims the child is not hers she doesnt know where it came from and lives in a ltc facility.

Will your insurance plan cover any kind of home nursing care after surgery? Or maybe if your husband has worked at the facility for awhile maybe he could get some FMLA time I dont know how it works for government jobs but would not hurt to ask if you can afford him to not work for a week or so.
