Need Information About Charlotte

U.S.A. North Carolina

I live in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area (was born and lived in S. FL almost my whole life) and I'm really looking into to moving to Charlotte, NC. My husband and I are renting and real estate is SO expensive here that I don't know if we'll ever own anything (3 bedroom starter homes in a decent area start at $350,000+). Is Charlotte nice and could I get a nice three bedroom house for around $150,000? Also my husband is Hispanic - do you think he will feel comfortable in Charlotte? We are used to a very multi-culteral atmosphere. thanks for any advice!

Hey,

Some there are tons of suburbs around Charlotte:

Huntersville, Concord, Statesville, Pinveville, Matthews...there are plenty of afordable places outside the city limits...there are a couple of good hospitals right downtown that are big trauma centers.

I live within 30 minutes of Charlotte and work in Charlotte. Charlotte in a great area to work, but I suggest living right outside in Cabarrus County. Also, North East Medical Center is in Concord which just opened the new Children's Hospital.

Hello, I'm relocating to Charlotte in May and can't wait!

I've begun the new grad application process at both of these hospitals and wanted to get outside opinions on them.

Likes/dislikes/comparisons. I know, location-wise, they are relatively nearby. Size-wise, I know they're pretty close. I'm in the beginning stages of trying to decide what I think is important in a hospital and am open to any info you can offer good/bad regarding your experience at either one of these hospitals.

I have listed my priorities as Med/Surg - telemetry unit specifically, Oncology, and Pediatrics...basically I have no clue what I want to do and just figured I'd get the most experience on a med/surg floor.

any guidance would be great! I can't wait to get my butt down there and out of this cold in Massachusetts!!

THANKS!!!

jenny

sorry, looking for an RN position...

Which hospital is the better between the two in your opinion as far as pay and patient care and nurse patient ratio?

Specializes in Emergency Department.

CMC is getting ready to open a brand new VERY large childrens hospital if you are really interested in pedi. Also they recieve the major trauma, they are a teaching hospital as well. And public

Presby is a private hospital. I personally enjoyed being an employee at cmc better. Presby has a very poor HR department so be sure and be persistent. At presby 4C, 3D, and CCU deal with a lot heart pts.3D i think is mostly cath patients, you pull sheats and stuff. 4C is CHF, Cardioversion, etc.

CMC is a far larger facility, and therefore has more different opportunities. Not to mention that Carolinas Healthcare is the largest hospital network in the region, so there are several outlying hospitals that are part of the same system as CMC.

I would like to hear from someone that works at either of the facilities about how they differ in pay, benefits, atmosphere, etc.

The pay is about equal at both places. At CMC you get a raise each year based on performance, and you may also get a cost of living raise. At presby you get a cost of living raise, some years but not all.

Presby has a great daycare center but it is $$$. They also have a sick day care where you can take your kid if they are sick and you have to work. On snow days they also take your kids in so you can work if school is cancelled.

At presby nurses hardly ever leave the floor for meals but is very much encouraged at CMC. Both facilites offer discounts to gyms, etc.

Thanks for the reply. We don't have kids, so that isn't a factor.

I am leaning toward CMC for three main reasons; 1) I want to do Critical Care and they have every type of CCU under the sun, 2) larger system, so easier to transfer to an outlying hospital if you want, and 3) the CRNA school is part of the CMC system.

Best ones to work.....RN pay rates? Hospitals where assigments located?

Home Care Agencies? Frequency of cancellation?

Which specialties are needed most??

Any other info you feel would be helpful?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone attended Queens University of Charlotte for nursing? What was the program like as far as admissions, classes, NCLEX passing rate etc.

Specializes in NICU, PACU, Pediatrics.

I didn't go there myself but I work with people who have and they thought it was an excellent BSN program. Carolinas Healthcare has an excellant ADN program as well
