  1. I live in Boston now and just as Capejaz posted Eastern Mass is very expensive. However, some of the best hospitals in the state as well as the country are located in Boston. You always have an option of living in surrounding towns of Boston like Quincy, Milton, or Somerville etc. where you still get the city without all of the high cost. As for job options in Ma. there are a ton!! I'm not sure if you are strictly looking for a hospital setting but I knew a woman who lived in Rhode Island and commuted everyday to Boston to work. So its really a personal matter as far as where to work but just know the opportunities are here. Lastly, Massachusetts has a great public transportation system that goes just about everywhere in the state so keep that in mind! Good luck with everything!! :wink2:
  2. Wow, thanks everyone for you help and input! It was greatly appreciated!! :)
  3. Hello Again, I was curious to see if anyone took the CLEP exams in place of their pre-reqs? If so, were the exams hard, which subjects did you take them in? And did the schools you applied to take them?
  4. Hello Everyone, I was wondering if anyone attended Queens University of Charlotte for nursing? What was the program like as far as admissions, classes, NCLEX passing rate etc.
  5. It definitely varies from state to state. In the state that I'm in you need to have a certificate or an associates degree in medical assisting to work in a hospital for obvious reasons. However, those requirements do not carry over into private practices. You would think its safe to assume that your PCP would have all qualified/certified staff when in reality they can hire who they want. And for phlebotomy, again, you can go to school and get a certificate. But the hospital I'm in they provided on the job training and we had to prove our compentency over a few weeks. The training is only offered to CNAs, PCAs. I'm just curious to find out how she got the initial training without schooling? It would be interesting to find out..
  6. The hospital that I work at has 2 private rooms on all med/surg floors. The ICU and maternity floors has all private rooms as well. I just think that not having private rooms a lot of times HIPAA regulations are comprimised. Not to mention space is close to non-exisistant when you have two nurses and two PCA trying to provide care for their patients.
  7. When you come to work for your shift, what is your routine from the time you walk in to the time you leave? :monkeydance:
  8. :balloons: :balloons: congradulations!!! :balloons: :balloons:
  9. :welcome: I just thought it would be interesting to see what schools everyone attended for nursing. This is open to everyone all the way from hospitals that grant diplomas in nursing to large universities that issue Ph.D's. Also, would you recommend your school to prospective nurses? And lastly what is your fondest memory while pursuing your nursing education?
  10. Oh okay!! Thanks everyone it seems like every hospital varies in some way or another. Great answers to my question though
  11. Hello Everyone! I have a question regarding the NICU and PICU. I know that if a baby at complications during the delivery or has an abnormality at birth they are admitted to the NICU. But at what point is a newborn admitted into the PICU for a serious health matter? I mean is the NICU limited to just "new" newborns? At what point is the baby considered old enough for the PICU?? Thanks All!!
  12. Does anyone know who is typically above a nurse manager, like who is her boss?
  13. Thank you very much Jill48 for your sympathy, I do appreciate it greatly.
  14. I wanted to ask, when I get licensed etc. or apply to other jobs am I obligated to inform them of this incident? Because obviously it will be looked down upon greatly thus making it harder for me to find employment as a new grad next year. (
