Arrghh!! Company with the best locations??
Yea, I agree, I'm in San Diego right now on assignment and I know my company has jobs in San Fran. I'm with Medical Express and have no complaints so far. I did try a smaller company initially and I know what you mean....they didn't have the job I wanted.

Traveling by air....what about a car?
I paid for my airfare from NC to CA. Shipped my car which cost $1000 which my company paid half of. So I had my own car. My company wasn't going to provide me with a car and I didn't have enough time to drive it. Everything worked out pretty smoothly though so that could be an option.

Do young nurses ever have fun???
ChiChi, Hey! I'm 25 yrs old and I know what you mean about being burnt out from school. Work is nothing like school, you do your shifts and your done with it for the week. I work 12 hour nights so I have a lot of time off and I live for having fun. I'm actually doing travel nursing and living in California(i'm from NC)and moved out here with one of my girl friends. I'm having the time of my life...couldn't imagine working more than 3 days a week!!! Good luck with everything, you're gonna love it!

switching companies temporarily
Ok, quick question: I really like the company I'm with(Medical Express) but I was going to try to work in Hawaii, and I know that most of the travelers there are hired by Hawaii based travel co. Anyway, if I went with a different company to go there, how difficult would it be to join back with ME when I get done in HI. Would I have to like reapply to ME or do they just pick you back up when you want?? Thanks, any info would help! JLW

Travel co. asking you to call the assignment??
I'm with Medical Express, and they encouraged me to call the Nurse Manager. It actually helped me get the job b/c they can tell that you are interested and it makes the interview process go faster. They always told me to leave a message the first time you call. And if you haven't heard from them in a few days, try to call back but don't leave another message. My nurse manager was glad that I called b/c she was so busy that calling me wasn't her top priority. she basicallly hired me on the phone during the interview. GOOD LUCK!!

to drive, or not to drive
Hey!!! Well I finally got my first assignment lined up at Tri-City in Oceanside, CA to start next month! I am soo excited about it but I just need some advice. I am going with a friend but we are debating on whether to drive or fly(from North Carolina!!). I think that the cross-country drive would be a great experience-i've always wanted to do it anyway. Or, we could fly, get her car shipped and share a car when we get there. Now, there is no guarantee that we will work in the same hospital...actually we probably wont. She may work in La Jolla, and we may have to live in between the 2 places. What would you seasoned travelers do--any words of wisdom? I mean, I know that we may run into problems with sharing a car, but I figure if I need to I can rent a car...or even buy one if I want to stay there longer-just as I call it-a "travel car" to get me through my travel itch... Any suggestions would help!!!!!! THANK'S YA'LL!!!!!! Jess PS-my current car is not dependable enough for a cross-country drive, so i would eventually have to buy one anyway!

need travel company
I tried to work at new hanover in wilmington b/c my sister works there. I started out with trinity healthcare and she was great and all, but they don't have a contract with any of the wilmington hospitals. The recruiter kept telling me about hositals in the surrounding areas. Then I went with Medical Express, and my recruiter is great, but the hospital says that they don't take traveler's without traveler experience and that would have been my first assignment. New Hanover has a serious need for nurses on night shift, so keep looking! jessica

San Diego Trauma Center???
Hey! I was wondering if anyone had any info on any Scripps Hospitals in San Diego. I am from NC and am pursuing a travel nursing position in a couple of months. I know that the hospital is a level 1 trauma center, but I dont know much else about it right now! Any insight would help a lot. I will be traveling with a friend, so anything else I should know about the city would be great too(fun places to sightsee, nightlife, etc.) Thanks in advance!!! Jess

getting ready for the travel
Hey, my sister lives in wilmington and she works at New Hanover Hospital and loves it. My friend recently used Trinity Healthcare based out of SC and she had nothing but good things to say about them. Wilmington is a great place-packed in the summer with tourists and the apmts they use for travelers are really nice. The hospital is a level 2 trauma center and they get a lot of the traumas because it is the biggest hospital in the area. My sister has worked there for 2 years and has no complaints. I hope that helps!
