Need help preparing for the Hesi A2 Entrance Exam

Published

I bought the study guide but I have heard it is not much help when preparing for this test. I will be taking it in Nov at MCC. I was wondering if anyone bought "Hesi Test Secrets" from Morrison Media. It is $40, but it is worth it?

Any study advice would be appreciated!

Hello! Here's more info about the HESI.....I ordered the study guide straight from the company. It was very helpful......especially on the vocab section. Tests and test requirements seem to vary from college to college and even state to state. Even though physics and Anatomy were in my study guide, it was not included in my test. Check with the nursing program you are trying to get in to and see what sections are actually going to be on the exam. I did a LOT of over-studying that I didn't need to. I can honestly say.....the most difficult part of the exam was sitting there and thinking intensively for 3 hours. I ended up scoring a 91% over all. I would suggest, if you have the option, do the reading comp. section first. My brain was fried by the time I did that section and it ended up being my lowest score of 87%. I could have done A LOT better had I not been so mentally exhausted by that time. Good-luck! It is easy for me to say, but DONT STRESS! It really is basic, overall knowledge. Brush up on your basic math skills such as multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals, and know your basic conversions. You'll do fine!

Hi, dreambig44!

Thank you so much for your help and advice!

You said that you studied using the study guide by HESI. Is the study guide called, EVOLVE REACH ADMISSION ASSESSMENT EXAM REVIEW (by HESI)?? I found it on Amazon and wanted to make sure that it's the study guide you used before I bought it.

Is this the study guide you used? If not, please let me know the title of the one you used.

I really appreciate your help.

Thank you again,

hi all

somebody told me that there is only 2 sets of questions for the hesi A&P entrance exam? is it true? any ideas

Re: Hesi a2 exam

can someone please tell me , what type of questions of chemistry and math are in the test??? This is a real stress for me. Also does the evolve reach admisson test book really helps?? Is it worth to buy the secrets to the a2 exam??

I am taking the Hesi A 2 in two weeks , we are required to take all parts, Math English, Biology, A&P, and Chemistry, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I haven't seen many posts aboutg what to expect for the A&P, Biology and Chemistry

I just took the HESI and A&P was included, but not chem or bio. I studied the study guide pretty thoroughly, and found it to be really helpful! I HAVEN'T HAD an anatomy class yet, and still managed to score OK, thanks to the guide. I will say that the questions on the A&P part were pretty specific, i.e. what hormones do what, what glad produces which hormone, cardiac physiology, etc. So my advice is to brush up on your systems, know the anatomy of major organs. I googled for example, " human skeletal system diagram" for each anatomical system and printed out all the labeled diagrams to study (again, I haven't had a course yet, so I really tried to memorize as much as possible). It also helped on the vocab section, as they use a lot of anatomical terms. However, I found that the study guide had most of the terms for the vocab section. The reading part was a bit confusing. I found the questions to be a bit tricky--so go with your gut there. First instinct is usually best! :-) Math--again, know the study guide and you'll be fine. Good luck!! :-)

Thank you so much! This will be very helpful!

jazznjac,

what did you end up getting on the hesi? Where did you take it? I'm taking mine saturday and i'm soooo nervous! I've been studying this evolve admission book but i still feel nervous about some things. I'm probably just making myself stressed out but my whole career is riding on this exam tomorrow.

My school only requires the math and reading comprehension sections. I received a 34 in the reading section of the ACT and I have a bachelors degree already so I'm not too worried about the reading comprehension.

I'm worried about the math. I took algebra in 8th grade, geometry in 9th, algebra II/trig in 10th, pre-calc in 11th, and AP calc in 12th. My freshman year of college (2005) I took statistics.

I haven't taken math since and I'm going to be REALLY rusty on basic algebra.

Any suggestions for becoming a HESI A2 math pro in approximately 3 months?

some of your information are very helpful

Seriously, the study guide will give you all the refresher you need. I have pretty much the same math background as well as a Bachelors too, out of college for 7 years....and I got 100 on the math. It's not things like quadratic equation or anything...mostly fractions, conversions, ratios....basic stuff. I'm sure you'll do fine! You may find it helpful to do any practice tests online. Good luck!

Which study guide would you recommend? I know you can't bring a calculator, but do they provide one? Where can you find online practice tests?
