  1. Yes it's a peri op 101 program through the hiring hospital, not on my dime or time. You are paid through the training. I just am so nervous to make a change from a floor that I'm comfortable with but am not totally happy with. I know there is always a learning curve but my friend who went through this program dropped out because of the way she was bullied and expected to know everything after that six months of training. RN-2014, what hospital or state are you doing this in? I feel so indecisive about it but yet don't want to jump from frying pan to fire. The idea of learning a new skill is exciting to me and I will miss working 3-12's and having days off but 5 8's and no weekends isn't bad either. UGGGHHHHH!!!!!
  2. RN1023, are you from Michigan? You have took the words right out of my mouth. I feel the same exact way and looking back, if I had known then what I know now, would never have done this and this was a dream of mine. I feel sick every day I have to drag myself to work and endure 12 hour shifts feeling like this. I love my patients and they are my passion but we are bound by the magnet train and politics and doing more for less theory. I did not go to school to be a pillow fluffer or a legal drug pusher. However with this customer service mentality and money hungry hospitals, we are bound by the surveys and have gotten away from old fashioned patient care. Now the patients are dictating how we can treat them. It's like a spa now, not a hospital. I am a three year nurse on a med surg floor and am anxiously looking every day to do something that I truly went to school for.
  3. Has anyone gone through a peri op program to get into OR nursing? Advantages and/or disadvantages? Thoughts on the program? Did it prepare you for the job? Im a med surg/ortho nurse interviewing for an OR position and just wanted some thoughts on the issue.
  4. hehehe...we feel like giant bluberries. I've had my first lab today and it was good. Great group we have and looks like we just dive right into the meat and potatoes. Already have a quiz next week. It doesn't seem as fast paced yet as it probably will be next semester. But you guys will love it. I'm excited for all the rest of you to start.....
  5. I think it's where we had our orientation :)
  6. I'm with you....nervous!!! I just been looking since Friday when I got my book. uuugghhhh
  7. Forensic, me too. I have to pay for mine out of pocket. How much was the calculations book? Do we need our uniforms now or when we start the hospital clinicals? I was going to wait if we don't need them til october so that I can put the money towards books.
  8. Mizzgizz, I am...what day are you there?
  9. August 2010 Macomb Community College Hospice Nursing Congrats everyone!
  10. yay Jessica, I feel your pain. my budget is really tight too.
  11. Jessica, did you get more than what classes cost, if you don't mind me asking? My loan was for like 1300 but it barely covered the classes. Now, nothing left for books.
  12. I ordered mine after the orientation thing....was in the bookstore the other day asking about books and stuff but books and/or scrubs and patches weren't in yet.
  13. Is it fannie mae or sallie mae? THey told me that I needed a co-signer and I don't have one. So i'm kinda screwed.
  14. just wanted to let all you August starts who haven't had your titers yet know that I went to St. Clair Health Dept today to get mine done along with the Hep B shot and the prices that were listed on that paper that came with our packet are all wrong. That is a price list from 2007. They are still considerably less on the titers -they charged me $65.00 but the Hep B shot was $75.00!!!! It is cheaper a lot of other places. So just to let you all know. How is everyone doing? Getting excited? I know I am. Except worried about books since I can't get my loan money until August 14 and class starts August 16th..... And the amount of the loan they gave me only covers my classes. Now wondering what to do for the $1,000 for books and supplies......any suggestions?
  15. Hello Guys! I'm an August start too.....still haven't gotten my titers either. Making a doctor appt next week. I was wondering about that form also. I thought it was supposed to come in the mail with our letters.
