Need help preparing for the Hesi A2 Entrance Exam

Published

I bought the study guide but I have heard it is not much help when preparing for this test. I will be taking it in Nov at MCC. I was wondering if anyone bought "Hesi Test Secrets" from Morrison Media. It is $40, but it is worth it?

Any study advice would be appreciated!

thank you so much , i found that the http://ec.hku.hk/mt/ is a very good site

i think the kaplan study guide is very useful .

Taking my test 1/20. I ordered the evolve book but it won't even be shipped until 1/7 so I am freaking out. Does anyone know if the compass study guide will help with the math portion?

my email is username (deleted by moderator, per terms of service).

i am taking the exam on the 20th and they only gave me two weeks to prepare for it and i am freaking out!! i have to take math, vocab, grammer, reading comp, bio, a&p, and chemistry  thanx so much!!

whew - i just took the HESI A2 this morning and got 92% overall. I did 90-100 on everything except anatomy, which I got 80% on. I studied really hard for that part, too, because I knew it was my weakest spot. The rest of the test wasn't too bad. So study anatomy and workings of the cell (components, membranes, etc.) really good!!

I am going to be taking the HESI in two weeks. Do you have any other advice that you would give? I really need to do well on the exam and they only gave me two weeks to study for it. I need at least an 85 or higher on the exam. Thanx!

Which sections are you required to take?

I know that might not have been directed at me but I am looking for some help as well and if you could help that would be great! I have to take math, grammer, vocab, reading comp, biology, A&P, AND chemistry:uhoh3: If you could offer help I would appreciate it so much! Thanx

I've heard good and bad about the official Evolve study guide. I ordered it and it is on the way so I'll have to let you know. Still, wouldn't hurt to have it because it is written by the same people who write the exam!!

I've heard they do a very good job at preparing you for the math section and vocabulary section. I've heard the grammar section is pretty basic (correct the sentence). Reading is a little tricky - go back and confirm all answers by looking at the paragraph again. Anat/Phys you are pretty much on your own for.

Kaplan also has a book out. Again, I don't know too much about it, but Kaplan has a long standing reputation in test preparation.

What are your weak points? I'd focus there. Repeating what others have said on this thread, focus on anatomy and cell biology.

From another poster:

"Go over anatomy (heart, blood flow; basics of each system in the body) and workings of the cell (components, membranes, organelles, etc.) really good!! And study medical terminology too! I can't remember a whole lot on the chemistry, except it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I looked up a couple chemistry tutorials on-line and went through them. Know a little about acids/bases, makeup of the atom... I don't remember many formulas on any portions of the HESI (except know your math conversions)."

Math is VERY basic - junior high level. Don't worry too much about that section, especially because they will give you a basic calculator.

Oh and know English to metric conversions!! I've heard they have a lot of those.

I've heard A&P is the hardest part. I'm assuming you've taken the courses since it is part of the admission test so go back and study your notes from class and freshen up!

Surprisngly enough I haven't taken an A&P course yet. The program I am applying for didn't make it a pre req because they built it into the curriculum for the program. I have been going over everything in the book as well the systems on my own. I have developed flash cards because I think they make it easier for me to remember than to just keep going over the info time and time again (hopefully I am correct!) Thanks for the info that you could give and I will definitely keep it in mind. Only a little over a week left to study!!

Wow, schools make you take the A&P part of the A2 without requiring you to take the classes?! That's kinda crazy. I can't imagine having anything to do with those sections of the test without the classes. I'd definitely buy the Evolve study guide. Mine is arriving tomorrow.

I second that the reading pard was a little tricky....I pride myself in being a great reader, with great comprehension and I got several incorrect because they were tricky questions. E.g., you'd read a section and it will ask you what you think may come next. I'm all about 'go with your first gut instinct'! :-) Yes, math nothing to stress over--I'm a big fan of the Evolve guide. Yes, know conversions, cellular structure/function, etc. I really found it pretty straightforward--study the guide thoroughly, take the practice tests in the back (a few times), dig up some anatomical diagrams, and you'll do fine! :-) Good luck!!

I know thats what I was thinking!! I have already purchased the study guide and have been studying from it all week. But I am trying to get as much info on the test as possible so that I can be as prepared for whatever may come my way when I take the test.
