Need help preparing for the Hesi A2 Entrance Exam

U.S.A. Michigan

I bought the study guide but I have heard it is not much help when preparing for this test. I will be taking it in Nov at MCC. I was wondering if anyone bought "Hesi Test Secrets" from Morrison Media. It is $40, but it is worth it?

Any study advice would be appreciated!

I took the HESI A2 entrance exam this morning, after weeks of preparation and anxiety over how I would perform. Overall, I found it to be much easier than anticipated. I was prepared for 8 sections, ranging from A&P to grammer but it turned out we only had to take the Math, Reading Comp, Grammer and Vocab tests. Each segment consisted of 55 questions and a 50 minute time limit. I found there to be plenty of time for each section so don't rush.

I've never been strong in math and it's been 13 years since high school but I used the Barron's study guide and found the example tests and explanations to be right on. You should be prepared to add, subtract, and multiply fractions, and know your ratios and common household measurements like how many ounces in a quart and gallon.

It's also worth noting that the Vocab section included a number of questions that require some knowledge of A&P. For example, knowing the difference between anterior and postierior, proximal and distal, etc. Nothing too heavy, just general A&P terms.

Overall, my cumulative score was 88 but I don't know if that is above or below average for the testing group I was in. It's probably middle of the pack. I just hope it was good enough for consideration into this nursing program!

Many thanks to everyone that has read this, I hope you found it helpful.

Hey I am preparing to take the Hesi A2 test before I start clinicals in the spring. I will be taking the test in mid-September Does anyone have any advice for me? I am sort of worried about it. I ordered a study book of some kind and I will get it this week hopefully. I am supposed to be tested over Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and general knowledge, Grammar, and Anatomy and Physiology. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would say start by relaxing. It really is not a hard exam, and the more relaxed you are, the better you will do. Go over the Hesi study guide and do all of the practice problems. This should show you what areas you need to work on. If you do have trouble spots, you can pick up a grammar/math or whatever book up and study from there. I didn't take the A&P portion but the study guide was dead on for the other parts and it is the only thing I studied.

Well other than the book I bought, I don't have a study guide. The school just gave me what sections would be on the test and then how the scores are calculated. I keep reading about a study-guide, is there one that everyone just looks at?

Hesi puts out their own study guide. It's like $30 or so.

Kiki,

No trouble at all. I recently had knee surgery so I am confined to a desk at work....and very bored.

Thanks, one problem tho, there isn't a reply option that i can find. so you can send it to [email protected] I cant reply back on that email address but I can still recieve stuff, just let me know when you send it. Thanks!

Kiki-

I don't think this is going to work. Your email wouldn't accept any large documents. I tried splitting it up but it still won't accept it. It's about 65MB total.

I am also taking the HESI at MCC in Nov. I've heard the test is pretty easy as long as you know your math conversions. Are you at south or center campus? I'm at center and very nervous about the exam. The study guide is somewhat of a waste it gives you an idea of what you will be tested on but the answers in the back of the guide are wrong. Good luck. I did find this practice test online as well http://www.westcoastuniversity.com/Documents/HesiStudyGuide.pdf

Thank you to the person who originally posted it to this site, it was helpful.

Sorry Mimi,

My computer crashed and I lost the files. I tossed the hard copies a bit ago.

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!! There was a vocab question about a synonym for "spit" and I'm pretty sure the answer the book gave is wrong.

I'm going to take a look at that website and see if it helps. I wish there were more practice tests available for these entrance exams! :selfbonk:

Hello I still have a few of my sciences to finish before I take the Hesi but I am already stressed out. The college I am attending just added the hesi as 50% of the entrance requirement and as it stands I am a 3.3 study which is not promising. I was wondering does anyone know if the flash cards from flash card secrets help?
