what schools in the phils (especially manila) offers 2nd coursers... and how long is usually the program?

to all nurse wannabees,

I was in the same shoes in May 2005, looking around for a school to accept me as a second courser in Nursing.. Found out about St. Dominic Savio College near SM fairview. All in all, spent about P200th.. Here I am, just passed the December 06 NLE and now a registered nurse.. Give them a call. Got about 5 balikbayan classmates, dint even bother to march for graduation.

i'm planning to take up bsn as my 2nd course, my 1st course is bsie. any advise??? can anyone recommed a good school especially in cavite or bataan area. thanks.

did they say why they dont accept foreigners? normally they pay a higher tuition, same thing happens in the US

Not really. They accept foreign citizens but you have to change to dual status. I talked to their main branch rep--and when she found out that my status is permanent (both of my parents are american citizens when i was born), she said that they don't accept foreigners. pretty rude btw. I don't know why, maybe schools are starting to give preference to local students while other schools are raising their alien fees.

Umm.. someone pm'd me about PWU's rep. I'll reply here for the benefit of all. I have friends who went there--absent profs, poor facilities, way high tuition. When i said bad rep, it was subjective on my part because it's mostly gossip without concrete evidence. But to be fair, I called them a couple of days ago. There's a joining fee and residence fee plus alien fee plus tuition. I have never heard of a school with so many fees. I'd have to pay 100k ++ just for my first semester. Guys, I have nothing against PWU, these are based on my experience. I'm just looking for the right school. hope this helps..

If you're coming from the US as an immigrant or a citizen wanting to study in the Philippines, better file for a student visa, instead of the regular tourist visa. i know someone who had trouble with US immigration and she had to repeat her classes. better safe than sorry later on.

Something is not right with this. If you are a citizen of the US and hold a US passport, then there is no issue with training out of the US. And if on a green card, you just need to meet the requirements to maintain the green card, but you definitely do not need to repeat the courses.

Immigration and licensure are two very different issues in the US>

I agree. BTW, I finished high school and college here. I have an ACR--the Filipino equivalent of the green card. But I'm still under the category of foreign student.

that's weird, she didn't have to repeat her classes..and before she even enrolled those classes, the school should have ask her for acr, or student visa..i for one, an american citizen, did apply for student visa 6 months before i came back home in pi. and just to share to you, acr processing takes a while to process, i suggest start early, and make sure you start working on that before you go to phil..i had a terrible experience with that, even if the school i been to said that they will take care of it, guess what? i arrived a month before the semester starts, and i found out that they didn't do anything! i was the one who went to file my papers and fall in line along with other foreign students in manila embassy....it was horrendous! the line was long, and everything is so chaotic! you will need to have a lot of patience really..and just to remind you also, you need to renew your student visa if you spend longer time there...

umm.. someone pm'd me about pwu's rep. i'll reply here for the benefit of all. i have friends who went there--absent profs, poor facilities, way high tuition. when i said bad rep, it was subjective on my part because it's mostly gossip without concrete evidence. but to be fair, i called them a couple of days ago. there's a joining fee and residence fee plus alien fee plus tuition. i have never heard of a school with so many fees. i'd have to pay 100k ++ just for my first semester. guys, i have nothing against pwu, these are based on my experience. i'm just looking for the right school. hope this helps..

wow...i was accepted in my school even if i didn't file for dual citizenship....plus, they didn't charge me that much for tuition per semester...i spent probably about 45-50 thousand plus per semester...i remember having absent profs, or clinical instructors but we always have replacement to cover..other wise, the class will have to do a homework assignment. yeah, i noticed the hidden fees, but i think everybody was charged with it, wether you are a forreign student or not. i didn't felt threatened or discriminated, because i still speak the language even if my filipino accent is weird.:lol2: i get the hang of it after i spent a year there. by the way, if you are a dual citizen, your tuition should be like the regular students, not to be charged as much as like for foreign or alien students...

they have a separate alien fee thats around php1k--i have to check on this because the person on the phone was very vague--that you have to pay before prelims. plus the joining fee and residence (can't remember the correct term) fee amounting to php25k. the joining fee is a one time thing while the residence fee is yearly. then there's tuition. i don't mean to put the school down...that's why i said that it was subjective on my part. :) hey rnhawaii, if you don't mind me asking, what school did you go to? did you get a study permit? i'm trying to get around these fees because i'm earning only philippine income.. thanks!

sorry.. that was a typo--its actually 1000 usd. yes, it's expensive, but that's at pwu. i haven't checked with olivarez college yet. so far, pwu is the most expensive school i've inquired at.. thanks for the info! :)

Wow, are these Koreans and Chinese students studying for the said course(AHSE)there in the FEU?

Yup!they're studying AHSE now in FEU.Acccording to them, they are studying in the philippines because its cheaper than in korea and china.

But i think, a lot of study effort for them, I'ved noticed that they find it hard to catch up with lessons because of language barriers. they always have a electronic pocket dictionary to understand the topic and that was really hard.. though they're very patient with that.
