what schools in the phils (especially manila) offers 2nd coursers... and how long is usually the program?

I am a second courser will be graduating this April 2007, my first course was AB Political Science. I'm studying at the University of Perpetual Help in Las Pinas. My section is composed of second coursers (accounting,psych,PT,OT,biology,accounting,masscom/abcom,management,hrm,aeronautics,economics etc.) like me and most of us started nursing last 2004 so getting a nursing degree in our case is about 3 years. There is no age limit for 2nd coursers (I have a classmate who's 41 yr old).

Most of the subjects credited were minor subjects like: comm arts 1&2, psych, philo, consti, PE 1-4, computer, algebra, envi.sci, chemistry, religious ed 3&4, socio/anthro, history, asian civ, life of rizal, Fil 1 & 2. humanities, art appreciation. Thesis sometimes are credited depending on the study and relation to Nursing Science (mine got credited just my luck ^_~) etc.

Requirements for having your subjects credited : Official Transcript of Records from your first course and Official Course Description of each subjects taken from your previous school.

1st semester starts June - October

2nd semester starts November - March

summer class April - May (required for 3rd yr n 4th yr hospital duty)

Tuition fee : about 35-55thousand Philippine Peso/ semester, depending on the subjects u need to take.

** The most expensive semester for me would be this semester (my last sem) due to graduation fees and mandatory in house review for Local Nursing Boards.

My opinion regarding my school: Sometimes we have problems with regards to schedule of duties however from what I've heard we are still fortunate than other schools. Clinical Instructors are mostly accommodating and competent. so far I haven't regret enrolling in this school.

Happy New Year and Good luck to all of you specially to all future nurses like me =)

Hi Winterfairy! I am new here. I would like to ask you some questions regarding your experiences as a 2nd courser in UPHR-Dalta. Im planning to take BSN (as a 2nd course), my choices are (based from proximity to my location) Perpetual and Olivarez College in P'que. But, I'm more inclined to pursue it sa UPHR. Kamusta ba ang buhay ng isang 2nd courser dyan? Naalagaan ba kayo? Quality of education? Instructors? RLEs(ano ba itong RLEs ano ginagawa dito? Affiliation? Fair ba ang treatments nila sa isang 2nd courser or priority nila ang regular students (esp. with duties) what are your concerns about the school? Bottomline, is it worth the time & money to enroll sa UPHR? What are your feedback from higher batches or from the graduates?

Thank you very much... Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi! Impulse23 ^_~ sent u my reply already via PM.

I do believe that It's worth the time and money to enroll in Perpetual, the skills and knowledge I have learned makes me feel confident about my future.

Sa UMAK naman they have the 2-3 years BSN curriculum for second coursers. i'm planning to enroll on April. Sched is weekends and one or 2 weekday classes.

I thought of UPHR

(Tagalog removed per TOS. NRSKarenRN)

their week day classes are 6-9pm UMAK sounds good for those who dont want to quit their job. unfortunately they dont have weekday 8-5pm schedules for those second coursers who prefer regular class schedules, unless you join the regular students...

Guys try National University...open to all 2nd coursers but no doctors yet:lol2:

i got a full load for 19K...never went beyond 25K

good students...cool faculty...yet of course there's always a bad seed amongst them..

DR. Clari ABAY = best prof for pharma (got an A there..:monkeydance: )

Few students and nice hospitals for RLE...got so many units credited so i think it's just cool..

but no special programs for 2nd coursers...yet :uhoh21:

I just want to add that I called Perpetual Help a couple of days ago and was informed that they don't accept foreign students. I wonder why? Anyway, foreigners who actually bother to enroll are told to get dual citizenship. Extra info--Southeast Asian College aka UDMC stopped accepting foreign students. Is this a new trend? I'm a PT grad from a school here in PI and I've decided to take up nursing. I've been thinking about Arellano U, World Citi (not that much because of bad rep) and PWU (also bad rep)... ANy additional info will be highly appreciated... thanx

Best decision for a nursing school is to enroll in a school not involved with the leakage last june 2006. I think xxxxxx was involved, I'm not sure. Anyway, I don't know the policies regarding foreign students, but I find this policy completely inappropriate.

hi!im a second courser student in FEU currently under AHSE(Associate in Health and Science Education) program. I have foreign classmates mostly koreans and chinese last two sems (June 2006). My entry point in FEU is irregular second year and right now after passing the battery exams, interview and achieving the grade quota, I still have to wait for the qualifying result for the Institute of Nursing if ill be in or not.

when i entered, my tuition fee range from 35-45k depending on the subjects you'll be enrolling.

With regards to teaching performance, i must say that i am satisfied with the trainings they're giving to students. The school is very much strict and students are really trained and disciplined to become a competitive one. Though i must also admit that some of the professors were not that competitive, still over all performance is good.

Specializes in Med-Surg,OPD ER,School/Clinic,Teaching.
