  1. thanks, so how do you like australia so far.... with all the requirements needed for foreign nurses, i see now why very few bother applying for oz... how long before you get your US greencard? is it faster if you apply from australia instead of from manila
  2. finally!!!! someone who posted extensive feedback on pwu-qc, thanks griffon!! its really a big help...i was considering this school, lanting and global at the fort... would you know if a lot of their graduates pass the nclex?
  3. Just came from a Nursing Expo in Brisbane Australia and there was an agency that was offering its services for Aussie nurses to work in the US, the agent was very confident that by Sept this year, the US would open up again for nurses. Of course I just took this with a grain of salt...
  4. hmmmm, i see, thanks for the info...i will check the website out... did anyone visit the Nurses Expo at the Brisbane Convention Centre? lots of booths, I was able to get a lot of brochures from the Unis. unfortunately none of them knew whether or not a permanent resident qualified for HECS.... cheers
  5. hi there, I hear that oz permanent residents qualify for something called HECS? Does anyone know how much it would cost to study to become a RN in a Brisbane University? and if you can elaborate on how much you paid per year assuming you were qualified for HECS? Thanks for any advice :)
  6. assuming the NCLEX can be taken here. any idea (guess) how long it would take to book a slot and sit the test? (weeks? months?) thanks
  7. hi Lawrence! Thank you so much for the helpful advice. I will check those other links.....yes, I was looking at the CA state for employment and do plan to study full time for the NCLEX right after grad and dont plan to take the NLE anymore... cheers!
  8. Hi all, For some reason it is taking ages to navigate thru the NCSBN website so i hope someone can help with some questions. For Filipino grads. 1. Not factoring the planned Manila testing center. How often is the NCLEX exam held in Hong Kong? I am assuming HK is the popular choice for Filipinos. 2. How long does it take to book a slot in HK? 3. After you book a slot, how often before you take the test? is there like a 6-month waiting period or something? do people normally book right after graduating? 4. How long do people study for the NCLEX (average of how many months?) 5. once you sit the NCLEX, how long before the results are out? Ex. assuming you graduate in July 2009, is it safe to say that you would be able to fully review and book and take the NCLEX by Feb 2010? or do people allocate more time? thanks for any help. :)
  9. Hi everyone, I would just like to thank you all for giving me a true picture of what to expect. These were the only issues really and i am very happy to know beforehand that these are the realities of being a RN. I will also now do a search on other nursing duties (which may not be for everyone) which my friends who are about to finish school may have forgotten to tell me about. Thanks again!! :)
  10. hi there, I am planning to take nursing this year but i just have a few questions for the female RNs if you dont mind. 1. if a male patient says he needs help (or assuming he really cant do it alone) to urinate in the plastic bottle, are you obliged to assist him? like actually hold and place his "p*nis" in the bottle. Or can you ask a male nurse to do it for you? 2. again, if a male patient says he is too weak to bathe himself (or again he really is too weak), are you obliged to bathe him in bathroom shower? him being naked and everything? I would not mind giving a bath to a woman, but not a man.... Are these part of the official job descriptions for a US registered nurse? Thank you in advance for your replies. cheers! Wendy
  11. hehe, still confusing for me... does this mean that assuming you were granted your Green card, permanent residency on... Jan 2008 and you never leave the US at all for the next 30 months straight. does that mean that by August 2010.....you can now apply for US citizenship?
  12. it only takes 2.5 years of straight US residency for an immigrant to get US Citizenship?? can someone confirm this? I thought it was 5 years?
  13. Thank you so much for all the helpful replies... Its nice to know that the precautions are much better now compared to 20 years ago and the risk of catching a dreaded disease is not really something to worry about.... :)
  14. Hi there, Just wanted to get some feedback (US based nurses) on how likely is it that you can be infected with a hazardous disease while doing your job, which obviously you would not want to pass on to your small kids. This is assuming you dont apply for a position in the infectious diseases area. Are there a lot of cases in which the RNs (given that you get first contact with an ill patient) end up getting exposed or become carriers of a bad disease? I am about to enroll for a BSN and all my relatives keep saying "oh its scary to be a nurse, especially since you have 3 small kids because of the chances of being exposed to a deadly disease bla bla blah.......":o I will still pursue it though, but just wanted to hear how it really is in the real nursing environment..... Thank you for any feedback.
  15. wooohoooo! congrats! where are you headed?
