Nclex struggles.

Published

I dont know what to do. I am stuck at a crossroads with this test. I found out i failed for the 5th time and i honestly what to do now. I have been out of school since may 2014 and have tried literally everything to try and pass.

Disclaimer: i am not going to look into another career or give up because i know that this is what i want to do. And frankly i will not let 4 yrs of school go to waste!

I have spent so much money on reviews and books but this time around i want to start fresh and anew. Idk where or how to start over. I want to retry hurst the updated version but ive exhausted my funds with this test.

What should i do? How should i start over?

Five or six tries for NCLEX--designed to measure minimum competence for nursing practice--is a lot.

OP may really "want" to be a nurse, but ability may differ from desire in this case. The vast majority of US-educated nursing grads taking NCLEX for the first time pass. Anyone in that category who isn't passing needs to reevaluate his/her course. Especially after multiple attempts.

The whole God/Jesus connection--it's not enough. You need content knowledge to pass NCLEX...and, more importantly, to practice as a nurse. I say this as a December 2015 grad, January 2016 NCLEX-passer and new grad RN who's been working in acute care for two months.

Functioning as the actual nurse takes far more than just "wanting" to be a nurse.

You need a tutor. Maybe a classmate that did very well in school and passed the first time at 75 questions. They would be a better resource to independently evaluate where you need to focus. Sometimes when you are doing it all yourself, you may not recognize what your weaknesses are. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.

Nclex success doesn't show whether or not one is fit to be a nurse. Its a test and just that... A test.

I know my desires for my career i dont need validation from you or anyone else.

I came here looking for help not for your poor judgment and lack of compassion miss NURSE. And u might want to look into the "whole God and Jesus thing" you need it.

Its sickening to see how heartless ppl can be. Passing the nclex does not make u a good nurse

Try again! You are not alone. I am in the same boat! Good luck! Keep me posted.

Hmm...I don't know why some individuals would say that you should give up. Yes, the test is "supposed" to assess minimum competency, but it doesn't really do that. This test is UNLIKE any other licensing exam . I can tell you that the questions that I got in no way were assessing minimum competency except for ONE question...which actually wasn't even directly nursing related. Trust me, my nursing knowledge was NOT shining that day.

If you passed nursing school and demonstrated competency in your clinical and academic work, then you can be a nurse. You just need to pass the test.

Please help me

Can you pls send me your notes.. Here is my email. [email protected], . I also graduated way back 1996, 20 years ago and attempting my 1st Nclex exam.. Thank you so much..

There goes the explosive "not the answer I wanted to hear" response that is infamous with these kinds of threads.

bottom line op, people are going to say and think that after so many attempts, if you can't pass it you may not be cut out for it. I personally have mixed feelings. I know that sometimes people are much more practical than they are paper-wise and vice versa. Personally speaking if you verbally told me all the symptoms of an MI I'd probably catch on quicker if I saw it written down in front of me on a piece of paper. But this professional. You've got to be good at both, and unfortunately the NCLEX isn't just a test-- it rhetorically tests to see if you have to ability to function at minimal capacity as a nurse and it figures this out by adaptive ly asking you questions based on what you answer right and wrong.

With that said, time to be a little helpful.

I've heard the when you fail you get a breakdown of where your competencies fell short. Does that happen for your state as well? Find the areas you're weak at and pound at those subjects to the point where you can write down actual facts about the topic and not just try to answer multiple choice questions. It helped me alot esp when it came to things like chest tubes, and a few surgical interventions.

Probably not a good idea to ask for any login aid info on here, some people take that copyright thing really serious. So maybe buy your own ? Or if you're tight on cash use uWorld. It's about 50 bucks and you get your money's worth.

Or you can try the nuclear option and go full on remedial refresher courses. In our state after 3 failures you're required to take a remedial course. Also after 6 months of graduation you're required to take a refresher that is board approved (ironically the only board approved refresher is provided by the board themselves, go figure huh?) It may be that too much content has left your memory.

Also, get to really understand how the nclex asks questions. Ive found that even if you can't cram the rationales in all the way, just reading them and reading the question itself, there's a kind of pattern to the way they ask things, and once you get used to it you'll be able to pick up on the subtle hints in the question that guides you to the "more correct" answer (boy did anyone else hate that 2-right-answers nonsense we had to deal with?)

Knowledge and information is half the battle.

Familiarity is key.

Good luck

No. But it does, however, make you a NURSE.
