NCLEX-RN Exam on April 2011, need motivation?

Published

Hello Nursing World,

I finally decided to make an account after coming to this site almost everyday, for the past several weeks, to research nursing topics. It has helped me greatly and Thank you all for you contributions!

I recently graduated from an ADN program and I am soooo happy and grateful that I was actually able to complete it because it was the MOST challenging experience I have EVER gone through in my entire life. I have to admit, it has been extremely hard to get back to the studying for the NCLEX. It's like my brain rejects the information every time I try to pick up a book and do questions... my brain says: "oh, no not you again." hahaha.... ugh! :uhoh3: Never the less, I know I have to prepare for this beast which brings me to this post. I was thinking... Why not challenge some of you who plan on taking the NCLEX late? March/early April 2011? :yeah: What do you guys think? Maybe we can message each other here by the end of the day and share whether or not you met your daily goal. For example, I have 2 books (lacharity and Davis Q&A) and I plan on doing 100-150 questions a day until my test date. Even if I do 20-25 in increments throughout the day, the point is to do them daily. Then I will come here and share how my day went. That way we can motivate each other through this excruciating journey.

Whaddayasay huh?!?.... I plan on starting this Sunday... Let me know if any of you guys are interested, I would love to motivate and be motivated by you guys... We need to get together and tame this beast! Lets do this!!!!:lol2:

hi Awww Itsmynurse, i will be taking nclex on april too. this is my 3rd time. we will pray that all will pass.

I did my exam two days ago and according to my unofficial result, I passed. the books I used were Saunders and Kaplan. I agree the questions in Saunders book and CD are too simple and those are not NCLEX questions. Kaplan has more practice questions online like Qbank and QT1-7, which was really helpful, I did 150 questions/day and went through each question for the rationale. In my opinion, Saunders is a good book to learn detailed stuff but i think Kaplan questions ROCK because those questions are similar to NClex, i hope this helps.

Hi JV nurse .I am currently using the Kaplan also. I was wondering what your question trainer and Q Bank Scores were like. My scores are not ones that I am proud of. Getting really nervous because I am scheduled to take my boards on 3/8/11. Any more pointers ??? Thanks:eek:

Hi everyone! I am new here...after reading several posts about various situations and people struggling along just like me...I realized: Hey! I might not be so alone! I graduated from nursing school five years ago and sat for the NCLEX for first time last week...after a lot of studying. Then, after reading the threads about the PVT (Pearson Vue Trick), I did the trick...according to that: I failed. After contacting my state board, it was confirmed: Failed. :(

I have three small kids and alot riding on this...but gosh, more than anything I don't want to be an "unsafe nurse". YiKeS!

So, I am trying to pull myself up by my boot straps and regroup.

I am hoping to take it again in 45 days. I studied Kaplan. Thinking about changing and trying Saunders. I got a lot of SATA questions-which I suck at. :( Any suggestions?

We can do this! I've failed NCLEX-RN more than once. I will not be defeated. We graduated nursing school. I've been out of school since end of 2007,took exam last time august 2010. I'M AN RN @ HEART, nursing runs through my blood vessels so my time and yours will be right on time. In GOD'S name I pray.

So, are you testing this month? We are RN Bound.

AMEN to all our prayers... The LORD will surely give us the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to pass this exam when we sit for it.

I am currently using Saunders, LaCharity and the kaplan strategies book for review. I am using the NCLEX 3500 for question along with my Saunders. I'm glad this thread is up for us to motivate and challenge ourselves.

I did it . I went to the Florida Nursing site and verified that I did Indeed Pass ! I am so happy and elated I cannot believe it. I felt like I guessed the whole way through the entire exam.Apparently I passed with Flying colors so that is definitely a treat and relief..

I remember earlier on I stated If I passed I would post exactly what my study plan consisted of, Here Goes :

I set my date 3 weeks away and set up an intense study plan. The first two weekends I did the classroom anywhere online with Kaplan . I did question trainers 1-7, printed the rationales to the questions I got wrong and studied them intermittently when I had a chance. I also answered 100% of the Q Bank Questions. My final Q Bank Score was a 62 % and my question trainer scores ranged from a 56-68 %. I bought the Saunders Book but did not have much time to use it I must have answered about 75-100 questions out of that. I bought the Lacharity Book and did the Cardio, Resipratory, Infection Control, Pain, and Maternity chapters. I did not do any of the case studies in the LaCharity or any of the other chapters. The two weeks before the board I answered at least 150-200 Qbank Questions a Day. I felt tempted to memorize all of the acroynyms such as spiderman and etc... But did not have the time to do it as I my plate was full and I worked a full time job 8 hrs a day 5 days a week. I also studied the day before my exam,I couldn't fathom taking a break the day before.

My Exam:

I had 14 SATA and did not have any fill in the blank, audio , or drag and drops. I was given 2 peds 1 maternity and 2 calculation questions. There was alot of "Who would you see first" , I had one float nurse question, and a whole lotta med surg. Lot's of questions on Cushings, Addisons, and Pancreatitis .

I was allowed to bring my own airplugs and use them but they were offered at the test site. The room was really cold. They will allow you to wear a sweater in the testing room but not a jacket. You can have a break only after the first two hours so think twice before drinking a 16 oz cup of Joe like I DID before the test. ( NOT GOOD ). I really took it slow. I made sure to read all of my question 2-3 times before selecting an answer ( This is what worked for me ) . I took two hours and and the computer shut off after 75 questions.

After the exam I had a deer in headlights affect going on. None of the questions were content questions. However, I wish that I would have reviewed my content a little more. There were a few questions where I could not recall some of the content asked as I would have liked to.

Good luck to all and If you have any questions ... Feel free to message me! Thanks to everyone for your support.

PS : The Pearson Vue Trick "Good Pop Up" was Accurate for me

Awesome congratulations!!!

this is all so very positive! we can and will do this! im so thankful for all of you guys! lets keep up the good work! again im testing mid april and will be checking in here to stay in touch and motivate as well as be motivated lol

Hey, i just took the NCLEX last week and passed! I had 78Q, and it took me about 3 1/2 hours I bought several NCLEX review books to help me study but the one that helped the most was the Kaplan book, the one that had a review, practice, and strategies. There was sooo much information on my NCLEX that was the same content i reviewed from the Kaplan book, i highly suggest that you review this book before takiing your boards. It's not a thick book so you could probally get through it in about 3 weeks. Don't be nervous about the NCLEX, it really isn't that bad, it's kinda easy. Before i finished nursing school we had to take the HESI to graduate, and i had to take the HESI 4 times before i passed it! The NCLEX is way easier than the HESI, so just stay confident and make sure to get some exercise to destress and let me know how it goes!:D

Good luck! I will also be taking the exam first week of April. Hope we all pass! God bless!

I take my boards in June and I just started studying. I bought the Saunders iPhone app that is great--highly recommend it!! And I bought the Saunders book as well...it is huge and scary, we'll see how it goes. I also signed up to take a Kaplan review course as I heard they guarantee you to pass.
