NCLEX-RN Exam on April 2011, need motivation?

Published

Hello Nursing World,

I finally decided to make an account after coming to this site almost everyday, for the past several weeks, to research nursing topics. It has helped me greatly and Thank you all for you contributions!

I recently graduated from an ADN program and I am soooo happy and grateful that I was actually able to complete it because it was the MOST challenging experience I have EVER gone through in my entire life. I have to admit, it has been extremely hard to get back to the studying for the NCLEX. It's like my brain rejects the information every time I try to pick up a book and do questions... my brain says: "oh, no not you again." hahaha.... ugh! :uhoh3: Never the less, I know I have to prepare for this beast which brings me to this post. I was thinking... Why not challenge some of you who plan on taking the NCLEX late? March/early April 2011? :yeah: What do you guys think? Maybe we can message each other here by the end of the day and share whether or not you met your daily goal. For example, I have 2 books (lacharity and Davis Q&A) and I plan on doing 100-150 questions a day until my test date. Even if I do 20-25 in increments throughout the day, the point is to do them daily. Then I will come here and share how my day went. That way we can motivate each other through this excruciating journey.

Whaddayasay huh?!?.... I plan on starting this Sunday... Let me know if any of you guys are interested, I would love to motivate and be motivated by you guys... We need to get together and tame this beast! Lets do this!!!!:lol2:

same here. I ran out of time my first time too.

I wonder for the next time, should we go really slow and careful on the first 75 questions? if it's still going pass 75th questions, should we still go slowly and carefully? because if we run out of time, only the last 60 questions will be graded. Or should we try to finish 265 questions before it run out of time? because they will look at all of our answers. Which will be better? I am really anxious whenever I think about the pearson vue testing center. :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Btw, which nclex books are you using this time? what are you doing difference than your last time? How long would you spend to review again before retake the test?

From what i learned from kaplan, 2% only pass if you run out of time because they use the last 60 rule. we'll i really dont want to make the same mistake i did! This time whenever i answer questions i am little cautious with time. ( just a little) since i am using kaplan online there is alotted time for every test ( ei. 75 questions for 1 hour and 45 minutes) when i am answering questions i always keep in mind 1 question per minute but i am not strict with it of course that would be too cruel!:) every questions needs different approach.

It just gives me a bigger picture how many questions i need to answer on the time left. Example if i only have 1 hour left atleast i know i only have 60 questions left or else il run out of time.

Since the time runs backwards it's not literally 1 minute per question.

But right now maybe i'l give myself 2 hours for first 75 questions and work on the time left. ;)

Honestly before i was so hard on myself. i always feel guilty everytime i dont meet my daily schedule and i was not paying attention to my psychological readiness so right now I want to take it with FREE SPIRIT and POSITIVITY! I am preparing myself mentally, physically and emotionally for this! Giving myself time to relax when my body tells me too ( which is most of the time hehehe) but seriously now its more like work hard and reward myself later! i really hope this will work!;)

I'm still using Kaplan, Saunders, and La charity. I'm planning to take it by 2nd week of April but no date yet. I'LL post it here when i have a date so you guys can also pray for me.

I believe we CAN do this! We Will Pass the NCLEX-RN Exam!:):):) Believe it! Feel it! and it will come true!

So, I think we should spend like 2 minutes per question for the first 75 questions. That would be 150 mins = 2 and half hour. We have 210 mins left to answer 190 questions, which mean 1 minutes per question on 76th and on. I really need to cautious with time when I am doing practice questions. IF we know for sure we're going to run out of time, it's best that we slow down and answer carefully the last questions.

Honestly I am trying hard to be positive. All I can do now is studying and keep praying everyday !!! (I guess I need to go to gym more, I have the 24hrs fitness membership but I rarely use !!!)

I'd like to share these prayers with you guys and whoever need it for this exam!

PRAYERS TO ST. JOSEPH OF CUPERTINO FOR SUCCESS IN EXAMINATIONS

PRAYER TO SAINT JUDE THADDEUS, PATRON OF THE IMPOSSIBLE

Most Holy Apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of difficult cases, of things almost despaired of, pray for me. I am so helpless and alone. Intercede to God for me that He brings visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of.

Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings particularly (here make your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the saints forever.

I promise, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor granted to me by God and to always honor you as my special and powerful patron and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Hi all...I graduated last January, I'm taking the nclex at the end of this month, so far everyone from my class that have taken the nclex have passed with 75-78 questions, this is how they studied  ....they are doing questions from the nclex 4000, every time they encountered a question that they didnt know they would write down the topic, go to their old notes or the book and read about that specific topic, so that's exactly what I'm doing. I believe that just by doing questions and reading rationales is not enough, we learned a lot of stuff in nursing school, if you have an idea of what they are talking about when they ask you a question in the nclex, you have a better chance to pass....example they ask you...what will you do with a child with talipes valgus(i think that's how its spelled) if you have no idea what talipes valgus is most likely you'll have to guess.

When I do questions I pick the topics that I know I need to review, I know I'm really good with cardiac and resp so I don't bother with those, but I'm weak when it comes to peds and pharmacology so I'm reviewing those. BTW, go over pharm and learn LAB VALUES that's a big one, know levels of digoxin(0.8-2.0), lithium(0.8-`1.2) they might ask you...a pt is receiving digoxin and his serum levels are 1.5 what would you do...not give it, give it etc...you know the deal... i also heard there were a lot of questions on chemo drugs, and don't stress too much on peds so far everybody that has taken it only had 1 or zero questions. I hope this helps a little bit, good luck to all!!! I hope i didn't bored you to death

Didn't get bored at all. Thanks a lot, it's nice to have a lot of information about the test from different people. Will plan to retake the test this april and your input will be very helpful.

Good luck guys!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

focus and determination is the key. we can do this!

I'm taking mines in July 2011 . I'm thinking of attending the Hursts Review because I really like her book. It's so easy to understand it.

yup i need focus ive been distracted lately.. but we CAN do this! We will pass the NCLEX exam. believe in yourself and you will achieve it!

you can purchase Kaplan book ( darkblue) it has 180 practice questions and chapter quizes for $35. or google kaplan trainer questions so you can have overview of the kaplan style questions. Saunders is a great book! we need to have confidence in ourself that we will pass the exam regardless of the materials we use as long as we work hard on it! if it works for others it doesn't mean it works for everyone.

Goodluck to us. believe and we will achieve!:)

Don't worry about it! Relax and wait until you receive the official results. You can start from there...
