Everyone getting prepared for the NCLEX-PN...I have an idea!
Let's use this thread to start our own study group. We can share random information, advice, work on questions, etc. I was looking at the "anyone up for random fact throwing?" thread and that has a lot of great info but it seemed more geared towards RNs, so I thought..lets do one for PNs!!
We can do it totally randomly or we can work by systems, diseases, meds, etc... I have plenty of study books to get me prepared, but I thought this would be a great way for us to help each other and hopefully increase our chances of being successful at NCLEX. :grad:
Who's interested??
Congrats to all those that passed. I'm so happy for you and hope to be there one day. I am studying right now for lpn exam but didn't mail my application yet bec I am a foreigner and have papers that need to get sent back. But I'm studying the books already bec I know it's going to be tough so if there is any help anyone can share about the exam like what we need to concentrate on studying, the rest of us would appreciate that help. I went to the library and borrowed LPN exam books. They have saunders, Kaplan, Arco. I also saw they have the exam cram so I am working on borrowing it but it's already out. It's free so if you don't have the money to buy those books, just go to the library.
I guess the best way to do this is for everyone to just share little pieces of random information. That's helpful. Here are some I've jotted down in my notes.
Excessive or repeated vomiting causes hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia.
Resting armpits on the crutches is a no no because it causes Brachila Plexus Palsy.
Parecentesis is when fluid it taken from a space of the body. The two complications for paracentesis are hypotension and hypovolemic shock.
Two neck signs suggestive of meningitis:
Kernig's sign- is when if the paitent is in supine postition, extension of a bent leg causes resistance and pain. It's used to demonstate the fact that the neck is not only stiff but irritated as well.
Brudzinski's sign- flexion of the head causes flexion of both hips and knee.
When taking the NCLEX-PN, you can try elimination technique in therapeutic communication questions. 1)ELIMINATE ASKING WHY choices bec you learned in nursing that they make the patient go on the defensive 2) ELIMINATE "DON'T WORRY" choices bec it's false reassurance. 3) ELIMINATE CLOSE-ENDED questions bec it discourages the patient from expressing feelings 4) ELIMINATE AUTHORITARIAN answer choices where the LPN is being bossy and telling the patient what to do 5) ELIMINATE answers that FOCUS ON THE NURSE. The patient should be your main focus.
I am coming across so many different lab values...... which ones are the right ones. I just took a ATI practice and missed to questions b/c My lab values were a couple of points off. What meds do u think will be the most important? Thanks Guys We can do it. I think.. I can ...I think ...I can ...I think ..I can.........
I took the NCLEX this morning...it was hard and made me think! I got shut down at 85 questions..I had A LOT of labs..make sure you know your labs..about 8-10 SATA , only a few infection control and quite a few priority questions along with medications..I got 2 pediatric med problems (which I hate!!) and some questions on having to convert liters and cups to cc/ml...I tried the pearson vue trick and it blocks me from paying..so Im hoping!! If I failed then I will just start studying again. I used Saunders 2nd edition...(couldnt afford the newer edition).and I listened to feuer audio on med surg and materinity...I wish I had the pharm cd's b/c because I did get some pretty twisted medication questions. I really liked the feuer ..it helped a lot and it was nice to take breaks from reading to be able to listen. Im crossing my fingers! Good luck to everyone who is preparing to take the exam..right now Im going to take a couple of day break and I am not going to read even one sentence or question..lol...
BTW...the feuer does an excellent job of explaining the acid/base balance! I didnt get any questions on nclex pertaining to, but I understand it now and now what to look for.
Scherie, I am praying you passed. But if not, just take it again. We can only do better the next time. Right? But yeah, I hope you did it.
Thanks for the info. I hate those SATA questions. I'd probably get all 10 wrong and that would cost me that passing score.
BTW to those still studying...I went online and searched nclex pn practice questions and found Study Guide Zone. it has 5 sets of practice questions. 20 questions each. Very informative and it's free.
Hello Scherie,
I took my test on Monday the 19th. I got same type of questions and almost got more then fifteen Sata questions which I hated
them in school. and few infaction control, many on Depression, and about 10 to 12 questions on meds some of them i never heard. My computer shut down at 85. When i came out I was 100 percent sure i failed. Telling my parents, wife and friends ,i did horrible. But i passed. I think my test taking skills paid off.
My prays are with you. I think you will pass.

CONGRATS to windowxp.
I really recommend for anyone to listen to...listening to this helped me with about 3-4 questions on the NCLEX..not many, but everyone helps..she states in her audio that she has ppl email her NCLEX questions...I believed it when I had gotten a few of them.
