Nclex Pass rate for your school

Published

The closest community college to me has a rate of about 75%..and the state average is 84%.

the second closest has a pass rate of 87%..they are about 60 miles from my house.

In your opinion is 75 way to low to be a good school?

what is your schools pass rate?

and that is what concerns me the most..is that they are the only program in my state scoring this low year after year. It would be just my luck that the school 20 mins from me would have to be the worst pass rate... all the other programs are 50-90 miles away.
Here are a couple of things which might help set your mind at ease...

Do they admit by waiting list or lottery? If so then they probably end up with a higher proportion of weaker students than an admit-by-selection school which would tend to lower their pass rates.

Even a pass rate of only 70% means that only 3 out of 10 fail.

If you're a good student then you should do fine.

They admit based on a points system..gpa, TEAS score, ect. Almost everyone who applies gets in because its a small community so not that many to beat out. They take 30-35 students each semester.

They require a 3.0 GPA in your pre req courses of AP, micro, nutrition, psych, and math for meds, TEAS V they require a pass rate of 58% i think. so basically if you take the classes, maintain a B average and pass your TEAS you are in.

I attend a community college and our passing rate last year was 99% :)

The best info I could find was from 2006, with a pass rate of 90%.

At the community college I am applying to, they had a NCLEX pass rate of 98% last year! I really hope I get in....

100% pass rate. I believe they've had one year since the start of their nursing program, where it was 99%.

97% at my college. I would make the NCLEX pass rate a big part of your decision in where to go. I wouldn't attend one with a 75% pass rate. That's only 3/4 that pass the boards! Not good enough for me.

At my school we are 100% across the board for the last 5 years. I also looked at the rentention rate and that was 95% for the last 5 years.

You really want to look at the rentention rate as well and go with a school that is at least 90% or higher.

I am shocked that the TEAS score is so low to be accepted into the program. We had to have an 75% or higher on the TEAS just to be considered for the program and a 3.5 GPA in all the science courses (A&P, chem, micro) and a 3.0 in all the other classes (english, math, psych, soc, speech, nutrition, etc).

They switched to TEAS V this year and were requiring around a 65% but hardly anyone was passing it!!! So they took it down to 58% and they are still having problems with students passing it!! They require a 3.0 gpa in the nursing pre reqs but I know that students are having to get a higher gpa than that to get in..because they only take 30 students a semester and so far they have about 50 applicants for each semester.

Another thing to consider is the attrition rate.

I was a consultant to a BSN program which had a good NCLEX pass rate. But they failed out 20% of the students after one term, and another 25% in the second term. They ended up graduating only 52% of the students who then initially enrolled.

They did not use a lottery for admissions, but used TEAS, recommendations, and interviews.

I'm at a community college and the NCLEX pass rate is 98%. We start out with 90 students and graduate around 60 (some of those are repeats). Teh school used a waiting list for admission up until last year when they started a point system for admission (GPA, TEAS, etc).

as far as the attrition rate..I dont think its very high..at least I havent heard of a lot of people dropping out or being dismissed..I think the majority go on to finish the program once they are in.

I know a lot of being a good nurse is learning once you get OUT of NS...but I at least want a good head start...so Im still going back and forth on this program and if I should invest the next 2yrs in it. It seems the majority of nursing programs have a much higher pass rate than this school..
