NCLEX 2nd and pretty sure i failed.

Published

so I took the nclex for the 2nd time today and got all 265 questions. My last question was a select all that apply for ESRD diet and I got it wrong. Im worried that I failed because I have heard that if you get the last question wrong you fail. Im so upset, I studied so much and I actually felt like the test was a lot easier this time around but I guess I was wrong.

There is no evidence or certainty that what type of question you get last determines whether you passed or not, my advice is that you relax and wait on the results. Analyzing the questions now will do nothing but drive you crazy and I know from personal experience. Once you see the word PASS or FAIL you will not be trying to figure out each question you received!

Its just so hard, because I was so confident walking in and then I got all the questions and get the last one wrong. I hate that I have to wait the 48 hours.

I know it can be rough but try to find things to keep you distracted until then but honestly there is no way of knowing based on the questions you received.

Whether you got the last answer wrong or right doesn't determine pass or fail. What determines your result is the LEVEL of the question asked. If the question asked is above passing standard, you pass. If it's at or below standard, you fail. This is the only time a single question determines your fate with the NCLEX. How do you get so that your last question is above passing standard? Simple... the questions before it should be increasing in difficulty, and therefore, heading up the scale from at or below standard to above standard. This is why you should always do your best throughout the entire exam, even if you do go 265, because your trend leading up to the end determines the level of question asked, and therefore determines if you pass or fail. Should your trend lead you consistently above or below standard for 60 questions before the 265 is reached, the computer will shut off.

lkay-everyone here is right. If you got 265, you have to stay above passing level for the last 60 questions...you can miss some as long as you are above the passing level. It's ok to miss the last one. Some BONs post very quickly. I would check several times a day online, you may get results earlier than 48 hours...but if it doesn't show up don't freak out. Some BONs are slow.

I got 265 and passed!

Best of luck, and let us know.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to try to be positive. :o I just have always heard that if you miss the last question on 265 determines if you pass or fail. I'll have to wait it out till Thursday to find out. I'll let everyone know as soon as I do.

Ok so the last 60 questions have to be above the pass line in order to keep getting questions?

Only if you run out if time, then the responses to the last 60 questions are evaluated to see whether the candidate is at/above/near/below the passing line in all domains.

If you answered 265 without rubbing out of time then all responses are considered in scoring

That one must get last question correct if go to 265 is a myth. It helps to get as many questions correct but one wrong question is not necessarily going to affect whether you are at/near/above/below the passing line in all domains with a statistical significance.

That's nice to hear because my Kaplan instructor told us that and I thought it sounded nuts.
