NCLEX in a FEW days, Yikes!'

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone,

I am freaking out about my NCLEX which is coming up in a couple of days. I have studied as much as I could. Studied three months straight. Doing Kaplan & uworld. Some basic content. I'm not doing so well on UWORLD but not doing horrible. Scores range 40-60%. Thought I did get one 90/%.

kaplan is okay, scores range 50-60% also.

Since I test in the next couple of days, I took off of work (third shifter). I'm going to watch the Kaplan content videos & review my flash cards & look up anything that I do not know or feel comfortable with & sleep early.

There's not much more I can do, I guess my question really is Kaplan & UWORLD, really helpful?

STOP, STOP,STOP and take a deep breath. Do not study anymore! Do not base your passing or failing on study tests. That is like saying, "I can't pass a test because I can't pass a test." You studied, you seem very dedicated, and hey you graduated from nursing school…!

Right mental attitude (RMA) Take a brisk walk, a invigorating shower, and get that dopamine, serotonin, and those endorphins circulating—these are feel good chemicals—and go pass that test!

I tutor grads both from LPN and RN programs. Usually the students who come to me are on their fourth or fifth attempt. Their failed attempts are usually due to reading errors, for example:

What is most appropriate care or action

What is reasonable

All that apply

All except

Most likely

What would you do first

Also:

Understand your anatomy and pathophysiology

Review the common drugs (gently read over, they will stick)

Another common factor is that they all try to rush and get done fast. Why? You have what, like six hours…you have a hot date or something? And so what if the computer kicks you off at 75 questions—how do you think you did?

I like UWorld, probably because they give clear and concise explanations, also well laid out diagrams/ charts and their rationale is evidenced based…not to say Kaplan isn't. But with UWorld I don't feel you need to have your Lippincott or whatever school texts you used as a secondary back up.

I will be thinking about you and sending positive vibes your way. Chill out

(((Hugs)))

Thank you so much for those words of encouragement! I really need those. I've been pretty calm up until now because the clock is ticking away.

Im trying to relax.

I did realize that a couple of questions I have missed because I did not fully read the question and seen one part and just clicked the answer. So I will remember to do that on my test.

& I will be sure to go over my meds briefly.

Thsnks again (hugs)

Good Luck!! Your Kaplan and uWorld scores seem good. I'm sure you will do great!

Im in the same boat studied for 3 months none stop averaged 54 percent in uworld averaged around 65 percent in lacharity and averaging 58 percent nclex mastery. I pretty much study all day and may test date is may 16 (praying i dnt change the date again like i did 2 times already).

Thank you!:)

My date is April 30th. It's approaching fast but I will not change my date!

Don't over think it! If you passed nursing school, you can pass the NCLEX, have some confidence! I was getting around the same scores as you on UWORLD, the more I thought about it and wanted my scores to be higher, the worse my scores got! Try not to focus so much on the scores, but more on the rationales. I know I know, so hard to do!!

I actually had my test scheduled three weeks after graduation. After a few days of studying nonstop I was over it, and moved my date to exactly 9 days after I graduated. I think that was the best decision I could have made. I went to a live Hurst review, and reread the book twice, read my saunders review book twice from front to back, & did non stop UWORLD questions until I finished all but about 500.

Don't second guess yourself on the test, go with your first instinct and move on! you'll just confuse yourself more if you sit and think about it forever. I passed with 152 questions in an hour and a half, which was amazing for me because in school a 50 question test took me the same amount of time. I just kept reminding myself, either I know it or I don't, and I graduated nursing school, so I obviously do. Talk yourself up, give yourself some credit, you've got this!!!! Goodluck :)

Thank you so much.

i shouldn't have waited so long. I finished school in December and I scheduled my test for April 30th. Partially because my school was paying for it and they were bullsh*tn.

i can say that I did not study a lot of content from the practice tests I took, my memory was kind of good. & I could remember the most important. So I'm not going to say I sit here and read from cover to cover content because I did not, which is kind of making me nervous.

I can also admit that since I started UWORLD , Kaplan test is so much easier & I'm breezing through just UWORLD seems to not be my thing. I have days when I wanna reschedule but I'm not going too.

in nursing school that was my motto the morning before my test I would say "either I know it or I don't" & I always did well.

But thank you again, I will surely let you guys know how I do! Please keep me in your thoughts.
