Near Passing Standard...

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Well that was quick, took my nclex on Thursday and on Monday received my failure notice from the BON.

But... I must say it's not really helpful on what I should study. It just says... "near passing standard"

so.... now what.... what direction to I go in??

I am just assuming I never taken boards and starting from the begining on studying....anyone else tired of studying?? I think I am on brain overlad with information that I am totally confusing myself. I have forced myself since Thursday not to pick up a book.... just relax for a week then start studying. But now I feel like I HAVE TO PICK UP MY BOOKS!

I forgot what it's like to enjoy the simple things of life. I feel like I have lost the last 2 years of time with my daughter! She's only 6. And she says, "you always study." It's breaking my heart.

uggggghhhh! Now 45+ more days to wait for my retake!!

The report you got didn't tell you the specific areas that you were near passing standard in? My friend failed and her report listed certain areas that she was near passing (meaning those were her weak areas) and she studied that.

While I do not take my NCLEX for the first time until next week I totally share your broken heart, my youngest is 4 and says the same thing to me.

Each area state that I was "Near Passing Standard"

Good luck next week 2BRN2010!

Thanks for sending the good luck!

The report only lists the areas that you need improvement on, they don't tell you the areas you did well on, go figure. Good Luck with your studying!

Best bet is to study again as if you haven't sat the test before, I would just concentrate on answering questions and get used to how they are worded and what they are looking for in the answer. Read the rationale

Hi Lisa1980,

If you were near standard passing, I would just study all those areas again. Definitely do more practice questions and read each rationale. Since you were close, I think the practice questions/exams may do it.

I did the NCLEX 4000 and I also read up on Kaplan 2010 NCLEX guide and NCLEX for Dummies for test taking strategies. I thought those two were pretty helpful guides.

Pharm was definitely one of my weaker areas, so I carried around Kaplan's Drugs You Should Know for the NCLEX and quickly browsed through that when I was on the go. Just getting used to to picking out familiar drugs...

But I do agree with Silverdragon...practice questions. Read the rationales. Practice practice practice.

What were the specific areas that the report shows? Like basic care and comfort, etc or what?

Each category said Near Passing... so basically it's the whole thing, there's nothing specific I can narrow down to test on.

After the test in my car I wrote down things i could remember, stuff i never heard of and things I was not sure of.. then i went back to the books and google to get figure out where I went wrong. But other than that... I have to start all over studying everything.

What were the specific areas that the report shows? Like basic care and comfort, etc or what?

Yes, from what I remember it's broken down into eight areas: management of care, safety and infection control, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, basic care and comfort, pharmacological and parenteral therapies, reduction of risk potential, and physiological adaptation.

But what are the sections titled?

I am in the same boat. "NEAR PASSING" straight through. Hang in there. We are so close, atleaset we are'nt below.... As my friends said in nursing school "Just a little bit more..." Good luck! We can do this!
