I dont know if I can go on...

  1. So I found out today that I failed my 1st attempt at the NCLEX. I am so angry right now, I am not even sure that I want to try again. I had 110 questions with at least 40 of them SATA, Med heavy along with infection control. I just want to get on wth my life and my family, i have a 4 y/o and a 2y/o, and I feel like I dot even remember the 2 y/o life as I have been in school the last 2 1/2 years, I need to start making money to catch up on bills, my story is like most on here, but I really feel like a total failure. I dont know what to do to get started to retake or even how long you have to wait in Illinois....I really just wanted to be done and move on.

Don't be discouraged, I just took my exam yesterday the whole 265 questions enough to let me know I was totally unprepared. Pick up after a few days off and get back into the books and doing Q's. There are alot of helpful tips on this site...I'm going to prepare to do the same as I am already accepting my fate.

You have to be positive...you have to say to yourself "I will be an RN, I will pay off my bills, and finally see my kids grow up"...best of luck to you...and never give up, you've come right before the finish line, be proud of that .

(Now I need to go weep and follow my own advice)

Meme~~ I am so sorry you are having these feelings right now. You of course know your not alone. It is an accomplishment to just finish nursing school with two little ones at home. You were able to pass your exams so the material is there, you know it. Obviously you were just so stressed out during the actual test that you made some poor choices. Anxiety is a terrible thing.

I can understand your needing to start making money but at this point your biggest bang for your buck would be to re-prepare for the Nclex. I think you can retake in approx 90days. I was fortunate through out nursing school as I worked as a CNA on the weekends and one night during the week. I was able to get some study time in while at work, depending on the night. Maybe you could take a part time job that would allow some free time with in it.

I also would take my little ones to McDonalds or BK and study for HOURS, they played and I enjoyed the free refills. Look at preparing for Nclex as your job right now. Try to carve out as many nook and crannies of time in your day to do flash cards etc etc.Always keep study materials in your car as well as purse.

I would use my Saunders/Davis CD to take as many computer tests as I could each day. Set realistic goals for your self and every week re-evaluate your study plan.

I really think the anxiety of Nclex is worse than the actual test. You have alot riding on passing it.

    Best of luck.....

WOW Racingmom4!!! I have been on this forum for about a month and I have never been so touched and moved by someones response as I was to your's. The way you write just brings you in and the encouragement that you bring really moved me. I too failed my first attempt in March and it took me awhile to get back into the studying. Thank you so much for writing what you did because it gave me hope and it made me feel that I too can become and RN.

Thank you for your kind words. I am a new grad Dec 07 and still feel "lucky" that I was even able to complete school yet alone pass Nclex. It truly breaks my heart to read some of the post of people just feeling so terrible about not passing.

It is heart breaking because if you are able to pass nursing school then the knowledge is there. You just have to be relaxed enough to be able to tap into it. I really believe the anxiety of Nclex is worse than the actual test. Nursing school is so life consuming and Nclex to me almost represents a ceremony finalizing school almost like a marriage.

I want everyone to pass Nclex. You did not sacrifice all those years and money to not be a nurse.

I dont think there is a thing as over preparing for Nclex. I think you need to find the time and spend every free minute preparing. I feel that by doing thousands and thousands of practice questions you will be confident enough in your test taking skills to be relaxed enough to pass the test. I also dont think you need to spend your hard earned money on a prep course that in my opinion only raises your anxiety level. Your Saunders/Davis/Mosby disks are bought and paid for so use them for all they are worth.

Best of luck to every one that need to take Nclex. Preparing for it, really does need to be your #1 focus at this time.

I agree those whole NCLEX process SUCKS!! I've taken my boards, four times, as of this morning (it was my fourth). Each time I've taken the max number of questions, and it just never seems to get any easier. Today, I don't even know how many questions I took! I tried not to focus on it and just planned on taking all of them. I ended on a question about therapeutic communication ~ which does not seem like it would be a good indicator to end on. I'm devastated. I've always been good with therapeutic communication and I THINK I got the question right, but I just don't know!! I'm a smart girl! I know my stuff! I just can't pass the stupid test!! I guess I won't know until I find out. The guy at Pearson Vue said I may know as early as tonight. I'm just going to be sick until then

They never post before 48 hours after testing, never the next day or earlier. Just not going to happen.

    Best of luck to you.

They may post on your states web site. Mine was up by 0800 the next morning, heck it may have even been up before but i did not even check it till the next morning. Two of my classmates were posted with in 4 hours of leaving Pearson Vue. On the flip side another classmates did not show on the states web site for 7 days, even though Pearson Vue showed she passed, she did not have a lic number for 7days, thus could not work as a nurse.

Pearsonvue is 48 hours what the state BON does is up to them, some show earlier than 24 hours where others can take longer. Plus not all BON's participate in quick results

    hi everyone.

hi to stillhopeful and im IMHOPEFUL. I just saw your posting and I must say I am in the same situation as you. I also took my test on saturday at 8 am for the 3rd time. 1st one 194, 2nd 265, and now between 235 and 250. I cant remember because the last time I checked, it was 235 and couple minutes later it ended. I was not ready for it to end. I cried. I was stopping myself from fully crying because I didnt want the people to see me. When I reached the car, called my boyfriend and cried like a baby.

I had 18 SATA, 3 SATA in a row!!! plus 3 calculations and 1 arrange the procedure in order. I was counting every alternate question because I heard that's a good sign. It was hard, hard because the meds they gave I didnt know at all.

I wish I could help you feel better. I also question myself if this is even what Im supposed to be doing. I hope that we can all feel better and just pass. Life is probably teaching us a very impt. lesson.

Just a line from the bible that I keep telling myself ... " if you believe, you will receive ".

I hope we all surpass this obstacle.

I just want to encourage you to follow your dreams.
Please do not be too hard on yourself ok?
I did my NCLEX with 75 questions, went home and promptly burst into tears.
I had passed but none the less I felt awful about it.
You just never know but get up, brush yourself down and say ' I WILL do this for me and my family'
    Now go get 'em
