Navy NCP FY2016 Applicants

Published

Hi!

I noticed there wasn't one for the FY of 2016, and I start my package on Monday to be sent to the boards August 1st. (My recruiter told me the earlier the better). So same thing as the last thread, this will be an area to calm nerves and answer questions. Good luck to all who apply, or are thinking of applying!

I'm out of the New England area, when did your recruiter notify you? Mine said I'd hear back late November or even December.. Frankly, I'm probably not surprised if I wasn't selected, just means I should enlist as HM or go army and do 18D LOL!

If you have a nursing degree or working towards one, I would strongly advise against enlisting and that is what I have seen across the forum from other active military nurses when they respond to questions about enlisting when the person is working towards a BSN or is an RN. If you do enlist, you will not be able to perform RN duties.

I would call and figure out the exact decision on your package. If you have one more year left, I would just reapply for the next FY. If you don't get in, I would recommend on working in the civilian sector as an RN, gain experience and get some certifications (ex:CCRN) and then apply for Direct Accession. That is my recommendation, but that is all up to you.

ADCo2---did you call your recruiter yet? What happened is that the selection letters were mailed out right away. No wait this year unlike last year when the gov't shut down and delayed everything. I guess the last minute status didn't get me, but it sure well could have! I've been told that if you have good stats (the most important ones being your GPA and interview scores) they tend to move your kit to the top of the pile. Why would you enlist after being in nursing school and then getting your RN? Why not try for the reserve instead? You could work as an RN and eventually try for DA. Please keep in mind when I say all this stuff about reserve & nursing DA-- I have no prior-service so I don't really know all the nuances :)

I've thought about it, benefits on both sides, one side has great perks being an 'O', but then the other side being enlisted you get to work with the guys in the field, we'll see, I still have to wait to hear first lol!

ADCo2,

Please send me your last name via a message, or this if you dont mind. I will reach out to your recruiter and find out why you have not been notified of a decision.

Hope this helps.

Ciao Ciao,

LT, NC, USN

Hello potential navy nurses. Thought i would post a little something on here. I am applying for a direct accession for fy 2016. I started my packet july 6th and it is a long process. Filling out numerous forms and writing a motivational statement it is definately a daunting process. At times i believe the process is vigirous to weed out therift raft. After all we r all potential leaders in the Navy.

I currently have 10 years of critical care experience with 4 years of prior military service. I have my CCRN and TNCC. My biggest challenge besides the highly competitve and small available slots is the weight limit. Starting out at 228 and leaning to 206 is still a bit off. I have to reach 201 before my recruiter will send me to MEPS.

The glass is half full and i know i will be selected and join my fellow nurses at what my dad calls "fork and knife school".

Is anyone else going for a direct accession? Seems many of the people on this forum went to school through the Navy. I am interested to hear who else is applying this coming up fiscal year

Hey everybody. So I submitted my package earlier this year and I believe we should get results soon. I realize that this is like a year after y'all posted the original thread, but I was wondering if anybody else is awaiting their results on whether they got in or not. I believe results should be available soon, and I have been looking online frantically to see when the board meets etc. Is anybody else waiting for their results? Do recruiters usually contact you or is there anything online where we can check for results?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely, a nervous nursing student ;)
