I am applying for the accelerated nursing this Jan 2010 for the start in MAY 2010. Is there anyone else out there applying this go round? I would appreciate any info from former graduates or nursing students on advice and their experience. I think that I have a good chance of getting in. PLEASE POST!!!!!!:redpinkhe
hey everyone! SOOOOOO I emailed someone in the nursing office and they told me that the program is now 12 1/2 months and she sent me the new curriculum. 15 units this summer, 19 units this fall, 16 units this spring, and 2 this summer (but I think that the summer semester is only a few weeks hence the 1/2 month)!! just thought I would fill you all in! I am way excited and now i'm even more excited haha! crazy. I just need to find out how this effects tuition now! let me know if you guys figure out anything in that department!

Hi Everyone!
I'm in San Francisco! I'm a little worried about talking to my last professor, but I guess we will see how it goes. Has anyone talked to NAU about the pre requisite situation yet? I was planning on talking to them after my last teacher, but I'm basically freaking out. That's great about the program becoming only twelve and a half months! I hope it works out and i can actually go. If anyone talks to NAU, lemme know. OR, if anyone talks to the NAU people, also let me know. It would save me from a lot of anxiety.
Today I emailed them about the fingerprint and CPR thing. Apparently, it is just important to have those in by the start date. I thought that April 16th would be kind of a rush since big agencies are super slow. Congratulations Katsie!

Hey Vepeters-
I talked to NAU few times in last few days. : ) I was super lucky with my situation for pre req class - I took Micro about 5 years ago and did not do particularly well in it but they told me that the grade was fine so I can withdraw from retaking it this semester... A woman at NAU told me that the start date and that time after is mandatory, you can't miss it.
Another thing thats not very clear yet is the curriculum. we heard 12.5 months but earlier today I heard that it is ending sometime in August 2011. Starting May '10 to Aug '11 is more than 12. 5 months ! but I kinda think the time in May is more introductory.
I tried to figure out tuition for out of state and the number I am getting for Spring / Fall and 2 summer sessions is 26k and then add the 1300 program fee and thats around 28k. then 1000 or so for books and then living/ rent and traveling to clinicals.
My main concern with NAU was the travel to clinicals.. anyone know more information?? I talked to those NAU ppl and got kind of differing answers. One told met that Yuma is the farthest people ever go and even then it would not be very often. Another told me that traveling 2-3 days a week for a few weeks is expected but lots of the hospitals we will go to will be 1-2 hours away, not overnight necessary. Because that seemed kinda like a negative to me. But, at the same time we will be earning experience in variety of places and its only a year right !
So CPR and fingerprints are not due by the end of the month? whew, I was planning on giving up my saturday to doing my cpr class but I guess I'll go to tahoe !!
What are your thoughts on living situations?? do ppl tend to live on campus apartments ? I would love to get my own apartment/condo but I am hoping to move and not bring furniture since that just seems painful to lug beds, desks ect. so I guess I am looking into those...
Katsie! What she said was that I HAVE to have it before I start clinicals and class and stuff, but I should send in a copy of my fingerprint card application and I should somehow show a receipt or something for taking a CPR class. So, maybe you should take the CPR class on Saturday. I'm taking mine on Saturday, too. WOO! That's great about your prerequisite micro class. I wish that were my situation! haha, Thank you so much for the great info!! You are a great asset to me. I'm not sure about the living situation stuff because I'm trying to focus on one stress at a time. THANKS AGAIN!!!
Prerequisite teachers gave me the OK! Here I come, Flagstaff!!!!!!!! Hope everything went well with you, Lizette! That was a very stressful process and I'm glad it's over with. So, just to clarify with the CPR and fingerprint thing, I think they want to know that we completed the class and submitted the application for a fingerprint clearance card to DPS by March 31st. She wanted the yellow form on the application to be submitted with your "yes, I accept your offer of admission" stuff.
Hi Vepeters... My teachers gave me the OK too! So it looks like I'll be going as well. :-)
I talked to an academic advisor the other day and they said the contract is due on the 31st of this month but the rest (fingerprint, CPR cert., and health records) are due on April 16 as indicated on the letter. I'm still trying to figure out the finger print part.
My husband and I hit a bit of a snag on our plans to move to Flagstaff. He was laid off yesterday and we were really counting on him being able to keep that job since he was able to work remotely before. So now we might be faced with the option of living apart for awhile if he can't find anything in the Arizona area. *sigh* I volunteered to forego the program but everyone including my husband has told me it'll be stupid to pass up the opportunity. So I will be going to AZ alone or not come May.
hi vpeters and lizette
any way you ladies want to exchange real emails so we don't have to use the public site as much. I am going to flagstaff to visit at the end of this month and hopefully will love it ! Im currently looking for housing and not sure of the best way to go about it. I don't really want to move with furniture so looking for furnished but not sure if the oncampus apartments are available for our start dates. if you find any good apartments fill me in :)
I do not know how to send you a message! I want to give you my email, though. Lizette, Katsie, message me! I'm glad everything worked out for you, Lizette, that gives me warm fuzzy feelings inside. That is unfortunate about your husband. I hope he finds work in a convenient place for you both. Katsie, I can't get to Flagstaff until the beginning of April, soooooo I'm going to be no help in your apartment search. Give me a 'heads up' if you find any good apartment places. You can email me, even, once we figure this out...
I am considering applying to this program which would allow me to start May 2011 if I get in. I have my doctorate in chiropractic and I am planning on leaving the field. I am hoping my additional education and clinical experience will help me get in, as from what everyone has said in previous posts the competition is tough! I am also considering the accelerated MEPN at U of A which is 15-months and won't start till Fall 2011 so my first choice would be NAU if I could get in.
If any of you are still following this thread I would love to hear how your experience has been so far. Does the program seem to be fairly organized? Any major surprises? How have the clinical/traveling been going? Anything you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Rachael

Yeah, it's totally possible for some people to work, but it depends on the person, I guess. I live in Phoenix and commute to NAU once or twice a week for classes, work part time, have a child, and I'm STILL making Dean's List...so anything is possible :) I also have many classmates that work one and even two jobs. But I also have classmates that don't work and are struggling still, so it depends for sure. If it goes to 12 months, then I'd say no. But if it stays at 18 months, then I say give it a try!
Congrats to you all who got your letters! I'm very happy with the program.
