I am also applying to the accelerated program at NAU for 2010. I'm just finishing up my last semester of undergrad this spring. I'm actually taking the HESI A2 on wednesday and I'm not looking forward to it... like at all.

Hey guys ! I am applying to NAU accelerated program for 2010. Do you have any idea when we will be notified whether we got in? Do you mind me asking you both how your gpa and hesi scores were? I wish I knew more about their selection process ! Goodluck to you both!
I think we should know by the end of february or beginning of march. I have a 3.6 gpa and got a 94 on the HESI overall. But I think they only look at anatomy, reading, and math scores and in that case I got a 95 average on those sections. How about you? I had asked one of the advisors about HESi scores and he said an 85 is average for people accepted and a 90 and above puts you in the top tier so Im hoping he's right!

I'm in it and I love it. Have 1 more year to go. The accelerated students are treated with a lot of respect and all the professors are very laid back and low key...bunch of mountain town hippies :) There is a lot of travel, so be prepared. They are not kidding about that! This semester I will be in Prescott on Tuesday, Flag on Wednesday, and then Thursdays will be a combo of Scottsdale, Flag, and Ft. Defiance!!! I had to spend 2 days a week in Cottonwood last semester, so yeah, there is a lot of travel and we are expected to deal with our own sleeping and driving arrangements. But it gives you a broader range of clinical experiences than any other Arizona program, so for that I am thankful. My HESI was a 95.6 and my pre-req GPA was 3.86. I was in the first selection group but out of 30 students accepted, I think that there are at least 11 alternates in my group. Good luck!
Finally glad to meet other applicants. It sounds like the ones that got a great grade on the HESI 90 + will have a excellent chance. I did not study for the HESI, like an idiot and got an 80. I am counting on all the other aspects that add up that will give me points. I just hope that whoever get's in and If I am one of them, that we have a great supportive class. I was in a ADN program about 5 years ago and they encouraged the students to study together and that was a mistake for this level. I'm looking forward to having mature classmates that are there to help us all get through the year and a half. My intention even before this program was to get into an BSN Fast track. I'm hoping for the 10,000 scholarship for the students that get in this year. The advisor said that it might happen!!! All the application requirements for me looks great with the exception of the HESI. If I get in...it will be nice to meet you all. Also, I am hoping that by us helping each other that we will host each other at the clinical sites. I live in Yuma and I know that we have a clinical here and people are welcome to stay w/ me during that one provided I can stay when we are in the Phoenix areas Good luck to you and let's keep one another posted on the getting in stats.
@KvSoccer, thanks for asking them. I did pretty well on the HESI as well, 96 in math, vocab and reading so hopefully that will help. I think what I am most worried about is that there are so MANY qualified students who have great grades, experience and scores. There are def more candidates than there were a few years back. Ok so hard was it to make your essay one page double spaced, I spend so much time editing!! goodluck and keep your fingers crossed.
I'm curious as to how many applicants they had this year. The adviser said last year they had about 75. That's over half that was turned down...ah I love the waiting process...NOT!!
I'm also very surprised that more people that did apply this year have not joined a blog for info? This is the only site that I found that had a NAU fast trak blog? hmm... not sure
Yes, it was very hard to write a great essay in one page, but according to the adviser and my research it is okay to write a little more than asked. It's not good to write less than what they ask. Mine was two pages double spaced. I did not care so much about length as long as it was not going overboard, but I did not want to sacrifice my content...so I think I did well with that. I hope anyhow.
I am not looking forward to driving everywhere! Hopefully I will have someone to carpool with :) I have been in flagstaff for the four years of my undergrad but am originally from utah so I am scared I will get lost driving to other sites around az! oh well thats probably why my dad got me a gps.. for my excellent sense of direction. How old are you two? I just turned 22 and I'm worried I'm going to be the baby of the group. The only thing I heard about the level of competition is the average hesi scores and that it is less competitive than the traditional program. as for the essay... oh my gosh I have never edited a one page paper so many times. I didn't want to go over but I also didn't want my essay to be dumbed down. oh well! haha
oh also do the both of you have a lot of hospital experience because I sure don't. I just finished playing soccer here at NAU and had NO time so I had to work in what I could over christmas break which was pretty much the bare minimum. I'm hoping my gpa, hesi, and references help me out there.
I would not worry about having previous experience because no matter we are all in the same boat - learning to become great nurses. I am older and have gone through a year of clinical work as a student in an ADN program and in my opinion... the most important aspect for success is studying and team work. If I get in, I only want to be around positive people. People that gripe and complain will just bring everyone down. I don't think that this fast track will bring in many of those types, but just don't worry. We will all be fortunate to just get in.
Speaking of team work, I hope that the students will work together and car pool. If we get in, your welcome to pool w/ me. I'm 35 and I know that seems waaay old to a 22 year old, but I am young at heart and look 22. Seriously, I'm a petite little thing and try to live healthy. Sooo far it's working. I'm married, but not planning on having any kids. Besides at my age, it's getting too risky and past the point of having them. Are your prerequisites completed or how many do you have left?
