NAU accelerated Nursing 2010

Published

I am applying for the accelerated nursing this Jan 2010 for the start in MAY 2010. Is there anyone else out there applying this go round? I would appreciate any info from former graduates or nursing students on advice and their experience. I think that I have a good chance of getting in. PLEASE POST!!!!!!:redpinkhe

BTW, If I get in. What do you think about the graduate housing there? I know that I will have to move to Flag for the summer semester at least and know that they have 24 and up campus housing. I think there is an option of having 1 - 3 roommates. I get along with just about anyone, but I am also considering a studio apartment so that I can bring my baby(dog). Could you recommend any nice (safe) apartments? I know I should at least wait til I know if I'm in. It's just that once we do hear the news we will have to get shots, a physical, fingerprint clearance cards, textbooks, palm pilots, uniforms on top of finding scholarships and a place to live before the first day of class in May!!!

35 is not old to me at all! haha I have lived in two different apartment complexes since i have been here. one right off campus (its practically on campus as its right across the street) called clear creek village and another like two minutes away called the lodge. both were really nice but neither allowed pets sadly. I am moving in with my boyfriend this summer and want a dog so badly so I will be looking for places that allow them so I will keep you posted. I don't know much about campus housing but if it is 24 and up it is sure to be quieter and cleaner than my freshman dorms which are the only ones I have experienced. The safest places to live would either be right on campus in dorms or in apartments that aren't in between campus and downtown.

Thanks for the info. I think the option of on campus 24 and up is going to my best bet and cheapest.

hello! does anyone know when we would be notified of admission? i hope soon. :-(

Lizzette (sp?) I believe we should find out at the end of february or beginning of march. How was your hesi and gpa if you don't mind me asking? I just want to get a good sense of my chances since I'm just getting more and more nervous haha

Yeah, I'm trying not to think about it because we still have a another month to wait!!! I'm curious as to how many applied this go round. Does anyone know of any other applicants? In my area of Yuma, AZ nobody knows about the program because they all try for the regular undergraduate or the ADN at the local college and most don't have a bachelors degree. I suspect that most applicants come from Flagstaff.

I actually just emailed my advisor to see how many people get in so I will let you know. I am in flagstaff and I don't know anyone else applying. All the girls I know are doing the traditional program because they all are prenursing. I am the only one I know who is getting my biology degree first mostly because I didn't have a choice due to sports.

Great! Thanks. I think they will choose 30 bc tha's what my advisor said, but how many actually applied can give us a good idea as to our chances. I know the past few years it's been about 75, but I saw a post in 2007..I think that said that they had less than 30 apply and everyone got in. I think with the economy there may be more applicants and on the other hand U of A also has an accelerated program as well. Let me know what they tell you. Thank you!

I'm an older candidate... Unfortunately, I wasn't that serious when I was getting my degree and ended up getting a low GPA (let's just say it was close to 3.0). I have returned to school in the last couple of years though, mostly renewing my courses and prerequisites so I now have a 3.5 average. I'm sure they're gonna calculate everything together, so in that case, I'm not sure how I'll fair well at all. I took the HESI early this month and ended up getting a 93. My Anatomy and Math and Reading are definitely way above average compared to the others who took the test (I just looked up my scores on Evolve). At this point, I really am hoping that my years of experience in Research and fatty resume' will help me get in--- hopefully they'll see that I'm more serious now as an older student. I also would like to study in Arizona--- I simply love that state!

I really don't think you have anything to worry about kvsoccer1813. Your stats sound great.

well your hesi sounds great and so does your new gpa! i really hope we all get in because I would love to study with all of you because it sounds like you all have a lot of experience that I definitely could learn from. I think my stats are high because I am still currently in school and am a bio pre-health major. Having everything fresh in my mind definitely helped. Does the evolve thing show your scores compared to other people who applied or is it just in general of ppl that took the test?

kvsoccer1813: that's a very good question... i interpreted it as me, compared to the class that took it for NAU. I read from previous threads that each school can actually design the HESI however they want, for instance, NAU chose to test candidates on 9 sections, whereas other schools can choose to test using greater emphasis on Physical Sciences.

I do hope we all get in too! I wonder how many people they're admitting to the program. I read in some previous topics that they took 30 in last year's class, which is not very many at all. What other schools did others apply for?

I was told by an NAU adviser that the top scores are generally in the 95 and up on the HESI. Also, GPA is calculated only using the pre-requiste courses. Do any of you still have any more prerequisites left to take?

Also, keep in mind when you get in you have to get shots and etc. I kinda wish it would not take so long to find out because there is a long list of things to get done, before classes begin.

I only applied to NAU, I was going to apply to U of A also, but they require 3 more chemistry courses!! Yuck! The benefit though is that the cost is covered, but you have to agree to work for the a southwest hospital for 3 years.
