National University (San Diego) Cohort 56: October 2018

Published

Greetings! Wondering if there are others who will be applying/have applied for Cohort 56, which would begin October 2018!

If anyone is out there, hopefully this thread will a serve as a place to ask questions, provide insight/advice, vent, celebrate, wallow, etc. :)

For my situation, my prereq's are completed, and have recently completed the TEAS. I submitted the application (which was crazy quick and easy to my surprise), and am just waiting for a date to take my proctored essay.

Hope to speak with fellow applicants of cohort 56 soon!

For those who have taken the TEAS prior and don't plan on taking it at NU, do we need to submit our score prior to our essay date, or are we able to submit it day of?

You just need to bring in your TEAS score sheet. I handed mine to the proctor when I checked in at the front and she used it as my score. You'll take the essay at the scheduled time and then you get to leave right after you're done.

Hi! you are only allowed to submit it on the day of the exam í ½í¸Š Good Luck!!

Just out of curiosity, what was your prompt for the essay?

Essay I feel went well! Only thing I'm nervous about is that the proctor said not to go over 2 pages, and even after proofreading at the end and cutting my essay down to get my closer to the 2 page cut off, I was still about 4 sentences into the third page...anyone know if the graders will dock points for being over 2 pages?

For mine, I got "describe a time where you had to use interpersonal communication to get through a difficult work situation" (something along those lines). I found it beneficial to write out your thesis, 3 topic sentences, and your restated thesis first, it really helps structure your ideas, and it will also help save time (even though I used every second of it!).

I got "what do you see yourself contributing to nursing profession?"

I got the interpersonal communication question as well. Thank goodness I was somewhat prepared going in with a possible thesis and topics to discuss. Otherwise 1 hour would not have been enough time, I definitely worked until the end. I am so glad that is over with. Now we just wait.

I just finished my TEAS and my essay. My prompt was: "Nursing is a very rigorous program with very little time for personal activities. What do you believe will contribute to your success in nursing." I feel that I did well on the essay and I got a 90 on the TEAS!!!! Now all I have to do is wait and see if I got in.

I bought the online practice exams which I used as a basis of what I studied, because it gives you a little print out what topics I needed to work on. I didn't really use the TEAS manual by ATI but I did have it just to clarify some topics. The main study guide that I used was the ATI TEAS Study Guide Version 6 by Accepted, INC. You can only buy this at Barnes and noble. I felt that this was more helpful. The most important thing I did that helped me prepare for the TEAS was download the ATI TEAS pocket prep app on my phone. And I just kept practicing answering the questions and took time to actually look at the ones I got wrong. I purchased the premium edition because I wanted access to more practice questions. And that's it.

I took my TEAS and essay today! My prompt was "What will you contribute to the nursing profession? Be specific." I blanked a little at first, but luckily I used the tips they gave in the writing center meetings and that helped a lot. I literally typed until the very last second because that hour FLEW by! I ended up getting an 87.3% on the exam, which Elizabeth said is a pretty competitive score for what she's seen so far. It's just the waiting game now...4-6 weeks.

Thank you. I apply for the Cohort 56 and my Teas is not great its in the low 70's and I want to retake it but I have to wait until 60 day. Thank you for your respond. I pray that God will squeeze me in.
