National DNA Day is celebrated on April 25 each year and commemorates both the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, and the description of DNA's double helix by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953.
The goal of National DNA Day is to offer students, teachers and the public an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the latest advances in genomic research and explore how those advances might impact their lives.
How will you celebrate National DNA Day?

Is there a day for absolutely everything now? Is there a Hot Fudge Sun-Dae or a Pedicure Day? A Get Drunk on Cheap Wine Day? A Spend the Day in Bed Day? Can we make up our own?

Maybe I'll text my half-sister who I found because of I had a DNA test.
DNA testing has been a boon to curious adoptees interested in our roots...

There is, TriciaJ.
In fact, different areas, e.g, Religious, Special Interest, Career share some days, so I get to pick my favorite for that day as inspiration!
April 26th is National Administrative Professionals' Day and I was thinking of doing something nice for allnurses' administrators.
Like maybe not giving them cause for any extra work on their part.

I had no idea! My first degree is in molecular and cell biology and I have a DNA license plate holder. I'm a big nerd and fortunately, I got some fancy cookies randomly for dessert, so I'll let my kids know what we're celebrating.

This cracks me up because I already gave myself a mani-pedi today and just now saw your post. Nothing like being in sync.

Not sure I'd celebrate National DNA day, but yes, hasn't DNA technology given us some major scientific breakthroughs?
On the fun side, who else has done one of those DNA tests to chart their ethnic background? You do get some surprises: a Basque friend of mine found he 's 9% Nigerian.
Myself having a Ukrainain dad and an Italian Mum, it was little surprise to come out 100% European, almost 50% Slav/Eastern European and almost 50% Italian. The small surprise was 2% "People of the Balkans." In my mother's region of southern Italy (Puglia) there are communities of ethnic Albanians called the Arbëreshë who have been there for generations. It's possible there was some mixing there. I'd like to think some ancestor had an illicit adventure - that idea appeals to me!
The database is seemingly very accurate - my husband got a match with a probable cousin and lo and behold it IS his cousin. I have a 0.5% DNA match with a woman in Poland who's photo is eerily the spitting image of myself.

I have a Ukrainian mom and an English dad and I've considered taking a DNA test. It sounds like the DNA tests provide some pretty specific information. Is there one you would recommend?
