Name one of your favorite things about being a male nurse.

Obv since I made the thread ill go first.

I have my own private clean bathroom at night.

Specializes in ER, Med/Surg.
Never having to get involved with nonsense conversations about bridesmaid dresses for an upcoming wedding ... :p

I listened to this conversation tonight.

My favorite thing about male nurses. .. other than their obviously useful strength.....is their butts in scrub pants!! Yum :roflmao:

:wideyed:

So THAT'S why they follow me around?

Opening jars and getting things off the top shelf.

Specializes in Critical Care.
I have to deal with that as a female nurse too. Most of the girls love my jokes because they don't have the guts to say they were thinking the exact same thing. But it also lands me in "the office" due to the prudes as well.

This is not funny. Despite having an average build I cannot find scrubs that DON'T hold on to my butt the way that 99 year old COPD grandma with ESRD, MI, and cardiogenic Shock on ECMO holds on to life.

I have chronic hypertrophy of the glutes. 🙁 It bumps into CRRT machines, ventilators, and ECMO machines.

I gotta say the drama is the biggest thing that sets me apart. And telling someone you are a nurse despite having a shaved head with a fu manchu and gold earrings. The shock and realization that I may be caring for your non compliant -ss is priceless.

I like giving my reply to oldies after they say, "Oh. Finally! The doctor's here", when I walk in the room.

I say, "No, I'm your nurse. My wife is a doctor. Times sure are changing".

Specializes in "Wound care - geriatric care.

When the female tribe loves you, it's the best feeling in the world. This any guys dream: to work surrounded by Bright and wonderful woman who are sweet to him. When they don't like you is hell on earth. I'm proud to be the first example (right now)

It do seem like all the attractive nurses are engaged/married lmao. Hell I know a ton that either got engaged or preggo right after nursing school. Their BFs locked that financial security down quick smh

not saying all have dependent partners lol

FLMD you seem like a pretty cool dude. I am new to nursing actually and wanted to see if you like to connect.

Wow, this makes me sad. I have trouble relating to other guys well, yet everyone else does :(

Somehow being trusted more than other staff for saying the exact same response to an unruly, confused, or demented patient.

A sad side effect of social norms in the US healthcare system.

I found a great video talking about the advantages men have in nursing. My personal favorite thing is getting to eat all the ladies donuts when they decide it's time to diet.

Ah man, I don't know if I can choose just one. Having an excuse to be left out of work drama. Getting mistaken for a doctor, especially with difficult patients. (I'll correct them eventually.) Being allowed; nay, expected; to eat all shared food.

The last one may be my favorite.
