My two cents.

First time poster, long time lurker. Actually just made an account to get this off of my chest.

I find so many posts on this site helpful and sometimes I just scroll while shaking my head. Why is it that when someone asks for advice or an answer, it is met with rude remarks and or "this post is so terribly written I can't even answer?"

People come on this site for help or advice, but there's always a select few who just have to hop on the post and defend their title as Allnurses' bully. If you don't have anything nice to say, keep scrolling for everyone's sake :)

Interesting first post.

So a new member joins just to create a negative post about us being negative.

Maybe I should create a negative thread about people being negative about negativity.

This could get fun!

:banghead:

I agree. Constructive criticism is good and helps people improve. But all I see is negativity

You have made a negative generalization. You have NOT only seen negativity. There are thousands of posts educating and supporting our AN members.

It is YOU that has chosen to only see the negativity.

Interesting first post.

It's good to be back!

I've missed everyone so much, especially my SN board!

Those who choose to see negativity will see it.

Those who come here expecting NETY will find NETY.

Those who set out criteria ("I've failed NCLEX 7 times - HELP meeeeeeee pass #8. BUT only positive comments allowed!!!!") for responders will never be happy with their responses because no one gets to dictate to the internet.

Those who have been raised in an "everyone gets a trophy" atmosphere will not likely understand constructive criticism, but will instead call it negativity.

If you come to an internet forum and post, you will get replies. Not everyone will say what you want them to say. If you have been lurking surely you must have seen that a good amount of the posts here are supportive and people say encouraging things. People also give helpful advice when asked. But it ISN'T all kitty cats and rainbows...neither is nursing. There are doctors who will snip at you, coworkers you won't get along with, people who will challenge you and get on your nerves. You need to develop thick skin.

The posts that make me stare in complete disbelief are usually one of three: 1) lining up lots of reasons why they are very unlikely to go to nursing school but they want people to convince them they will get in 2) a post likely to be false detailing an unsafe/scary situation, then they are upset they got in trouble for it 3) nursing assistants/techs shrieking how much they can't stand nurses.

I enjoy reading AN. Usually I just have my snack and move on. We are all here to support one another. We don't all have to agree to do that.

We are. The support is why I come back.

What kinda sandwich ya got there?

You are very correct. I did make an exaggeration/overgeneralization there. In my original post I did state that there were a lot of helpful posts on this site. Excuse my error

Not looking for a specific result. Just venting like everyone loves to do.

I disagree. In your first post you made the following request (demand):

If you don't have anything nice to say, keep scrolling for everyone's sake

That's not going to happen. And as long as it doesn't violate the TOS, a "negative" post will not be deleted by the mods who run this site.

I made a suggestion

I sometimes think that the response may not be the actual response an poster wanted. The response may be a realistic answer to the question, or a truthful answer instead of a "feel good" answer that provides false reassurance.

Tone is also difficult to interpret in a post as one cannot see gestures, facial expressions, or hear inclinations.

In addition, if a poster is asking a question, just because the answer may not be what the OP expected does not make it mean.
