My review log for NCLEX-RN exam.

Published

In one to two months I will be taking my exam, this thread is an online log to track my progress.I figure if I do it on my own, it will be most likely to FAIL. So Im here, taking all the risks. I know its hard to do it on my own, so I need some encouragements from everyone here (if possible).

So far, I gathered all the resources I need:

Books: LaCharity, Saunders, Kaplan and (to purchase) NCSBN online review.

Place; I mostly can focus on a not-too-noisy places, Library is one of my fave.

Lastly, to everyone who will be taking taking there exam this coming May or June,

I wish you all luck! :nurse:

In the end, our strong faith to ourselves and the Divine will make us all reach success!

Cheers!

end-of-life care: 31q 74% (i was getting all correct answer til i got to 17 :D i thought i would get at least 80%)

also read the an review guide

Did my comprehensive exam for Saunders today, scored 73% .. Not bad but I would've liked it a little higher. Did 75 additional questions today in smaller chunks, scoring 75-85% on those.

I am working all day tomorrow and Saturday and then my short 3 day vaca begins! I am bringing my homemade med study sheets, mosby pharm memory note cards booklet, and my school's review manual, plus several iPad apps.

Ideally I will do 50-75 questions tomorrow after work.

Then Saturday read through some meds and content and do 25-50 questions at the airport / on the plane.

Shooting for 25(or more) on Sunday and Monday and then again review content and meds and at least 25 questions on my way home Tuesday!!

Good luck to everyone! Will try to still post my progress here over the next few days!

Countdown = now under 2 weeks! 6/21/2012 quickly approaching !

Lets go guys!... :)))

One more step to getting that license!..

Still waiting (and waiting) for my ATT. The Board called and said they have my letter of completion but they have a very large stack to get through, so if I don't get the ATT next week I should call them back. I only have until Friday to schedule my test to be admitted for the Fall RN-BSN program, argh!

June 7

Kaplan - Pharm: 18/25. Two of the questions I got wrong were things I desperately wanted to argue my teacher about on my critical care exams. One of them was about extravasation of a vesicant. On her test, I answered "Attempt to aspirate the residual drug" and she said that was wrong and you never want to aspirate and you have to d/c the IV immediately, but according to Kaplan, you attempt to aspirate.

I sent my application to the state of CA on May 4 and didn't get my ATT until June 5th! I had to disclose that I ran a red light (in CA must disclose any ticket over $300) so my application review took longer.

I took my hospital competency tests on Friday and passed! My orientation starts this week and I scheduled my NCLEX for July 28. Now it's time to get serious. I bought an 8 week subscription to NCSBN, and am reviewing my Illustrated Study Guide for NCLEX- RN (Zerwekh). I also checked out Lippincott's NCLEX-RN Alternate Format Questions from my library.

I am really excited about the NCSBN online review because they offer a suggested study plan to cover all of the information, and at this far out from the test I can make it on only 2-3 hours a day of studying. I will be working full-time too, so I can't devote entire days to studying. I am a motivated self-learner but was feeling overwhelmed at creating a study plan for so much information, so this is a huge relief.

Good luck to everyone on this thread. Your updates are very motivating and we will get through this together!

hi guys! hows the your review going on?

ohioitnurse the question about extravasation is confusing me, i honestly didnt know you have to attempt to aspirate residual drug till i read it on kaplan review. most of the question about it on other review is to d/c it immediately and report to md.

sandyfeet your nclex date :D i hope you pass, its gonna be my birthday that day. :nurse: goodluck.

now for my review log:

june 9:

pda neurologic problems: 28/34

i decided to rest since i did a lot the day before

june 10:

was still planing to rest but couldnt

pda visual and auditory: 15/20

kaplan: 50q 80%

june 11:

pda musculoskeletal: 19/21

gi & nutritional: 15/26 (put a purple sticker definitely want to go over it before my big day)

nclex4000: alternate 40q on review mode

saunders: alternate 5/10 :uhoh3:

kaplan: 50q  too embarass to share my score. :( i feel like throwing up at this point. i think god is punishing me cause i choose to review instead of going to church

@mcunanan - I've also read (can't remember where) that you need to leave the IV in place in case there is an antidote. The doctor would want to infuse the antidote into the tissues in the exact spot that the drug entered. I don't know about that, though. I can't find the source. It's all confusing me!

@sandyfeet - good luck on your orientation!

Took a break from Kaplan over the weekend and started on LaCharity. Hoping I get my ATT today and will schedule my test at the soonest available date/time. Trying not to get my hopes up, though.
