Please help asap!!! My hubby is in prison. I have an interview(LVN) coming up (not at the same prison)

Does anyone know if Its against the rules for me to work if Im actively visiting him and YES getting Conjugals.:D

FYI he is not happy about it at all! He has told me many stories about what goes on. Just thought i would share for anyone wondering what its like on the "inside looking out" I dont want to show up to this interview looking like a dummy if its totally against the rules. Thanks guys!!!!

Why would it be against the rules if he's at a totally different place?

I don't see a problem with it if it is at a different prison.

You will probably have to tell them that he is in prison though. There were questions like that on my official application, any friends, family, in prison? I don't know about Cali though.

I've seen where there are questions that pertain to your situation. You would have to mention it, but I don't think it would preclude you from getting the job.

I'm surprised that no one is taking into consideration that it's a violation to ask her marital status at the interview.

I would believe that it would be a violation for her not to disclose IF her husband was in the same prison that she worked in or for her not to disclose it if he were transferred there, but it's none of the State's business otherwise.

BabyLady- Well yes, that is true, the interviewer cannot ask any of those type of questions. But in my case, they were asked on the official application. I Had to list the names and addresses of all my family members. It asked "Do you have any relatives or cohabitants working for the Department of Correction?" "Do you have any family members who are currently incarcerated with or under jurisdiction of the Department of Correction, if YES- Please state name, relationship, and facility where incarcerated. If NO- and your circumstance changes, you must notify the Department of Correction to update your file." and " Other than medical purposes, have you ever abused alcohol or drugs, if YES- please explain in detail, type frequency and date."

So, typically these questions have never been asked of me for a job application. But working in corrections requires an intensive background check, so they do ask these things.

THanks so much for everyone's input!!! I was so nervous. It is true, they cannot ask if Im married. Here are my 2 biggest concerns. #1 he has been transferred to 4-5 different prisons in the last 8 1/2 yrs. If i dont tell them, he may be transferred to the prison i work for which could get us both in trouble, and Im afraid they will send him very far. #2 i thought maybe mgmnt would be afraid i would disclose info like how to get meds/drugs etc or even little tricks like not swallowing the meds etc etc. Which of course is not the case for us. I guess i am a little insecure. My only exp with the prison system is with CO's which some treat us wives/family like prisoners. I have even been strip searched! Totally undressed, spread em, cough, car searched, etc etc. Very degrading. The CO responded by saying " now u know what your husband goes through every day"

Has anyone heard of a similar situation (employee married to an inmate and STILL employed)??????

I have heard of several times where an employee quits to begin a relationship.

Chaoticdream33-did they ask you this after you where hired?

Thanks!!!!:)

I work at a prison and my son is incarcerated, I had to report it. Don't lie about it because if they find out you will lose your job. He will never be at your location that's a security breach. Another employee at my job was investigated because she did not report that her husband was at our facility. He came in on the weekend and she was off for fhe weekend, he got released and was gone by the time she came back to work. But she did not report it, I didn't want my cowprkers to know about my son, so I wrote a confidential report to the investigators, and my Don still doesn't know.

ok, so i dont have to tell them during my interview? THANKS!!! This was some great info! Im a tough girl, but i do feel a bit uncomfortable telling co workers. If i could keep it confidential that would be great!!!:lol2:

Nightnurse lvn- This was asked of me before they offered me the position. The application does have a disclaimer that says that answering yes does not necessarily disqualify you from employment.

I would let the application guide your decisions...if the application doesn't ask you to disclose it, then I wouldn't unless, of course, you find out your husband is being transferred to your prison...then for integrity reasons, you would have to.
