I was just going to post something similar to your because people are sugar coating it cuz applying to nursing school is not a joke and its very compeptive!! Also that was like the easiest work load she would ever get its not even nursing classes so she should be acing them.

Wooooow, did you fall out of the Hate tree and hit every branch? I agree, do not listen to all this negativity. You need to concentrate on what you can do better and strive to find what type of studying works best for you. College is completely different from high school and unfortunately, you really don't realize this until you start your classes. Also, you may be able to retake the C classes but don't bank on that. Talk to your school's registrar to see if you can. Hang in there and do the best you can!

Negativity? How do you figure? OP wanted criticism on her grades. Do you think he grades are good? I certainly hope not, because they are terrible. Its not being negative its being truthful. You really think she is going to make it through nursing school if she cant Ace probably the most easy class load she will ever face? She will not get into nursing with those grades. That is a fact. The world isnt sunshine and rainbows, its a mean dark place, and when you get knocked down, you need to realize that you are down, and get back up. She needs to realize its time to prioritize, assuming she really wants this, and her grades say otherwise.

You guys need to stop sugar coating everything, she needs a wake up call. HER GRADES ARE AWFUL! That was the easiest course load you can possibly have, and it gets MUCH harder, and plus those are just her undergrad classes. My post may have been a little rude, but it was the truth, the truth hurts. Nursing school is competitive, and there are a lot of smart people out there. She needs to take two classes at a time. Stop giving this girl false hope saying she is going to be able to do this next semester which is much more difficult, "if she puts her mind to it". That is not enough. She needs to cut the class load, AND put her mind to it. It is very important that you make as many A's as possible. The lowest GPA that i have herd of in my class is a 3.6. A C in college reading if you want to use algorithimics is in theory an F in A&P.

Those grades may hurt you. I only say this because College algebra and College Reading are both what I call "Building blocks classes" As you may know, nursing school is a TON of reading. I mean, you will be reading non stop all the time. I truly believe that if you want to succeed you may consider retaking at least the reading class, (The math class you passed and if that ends up being the ONLY C you have on your transcript, that may be easily explainable to the board.)

I would also consider cutting your class load. I know you want to be in nursing school sooner, but I think it would be beneficial to your gpa if you took only 2 or 3 classes and balance one difficult class with 2 easier ones. A&P is going to be a lot of work, (and I am not trying to be negative here) but if you're having problems with reading or comprehension or writing you may want to see a learning counselor about how you can succeed in these classes. (Take a learning style quiz and find out how you learn Auditory, Visual or Kinesthetic this may help)

I really wish you luck and if this is your dream then chase it, but take into consideration that not all people have the luxury of just "getting it" you may need to work harder to be on a level that makes you competitive with your peers. If you're determined enough I have no doubt that you can do it!

Apparently not failing = amazing grades!

Tactless or not, with the exception of saying she will most likely fail next semester, nothing Trenbolone Acetate has said is wrong. Her grades are too low. Those are easy classes. Her GPA guarantees her application won't even be looked at by most nursing schools. She MUST do something different - and apparently desperately needs a wake up call. I agree that taking fewer classes would probably help.

I wasn't debating whether TA was wrong. I merely pointed out that TA's tone was tactless and I am not wrong on that.

If you read the first few replies to OP, you'll see that there was no sugar-coating. They were constructive replies urging OP to figure out what's going on, because a 2.6 GPA will not cut it among a pool of competitive nursing applicants. TA apparently did not read those, and pick out that one or two more encouraging posts and blasted them of sugar-coating while going on and on about OP's "awful" grades with a number of unfounded assumptions.

Unfortunately, as competitive as these programs are, you will probably need to set a goal for at least a 3.0. Of course, your program may be different. But, there are so many applicants, you want to make sure you are sitting at the top.

One thing I would caution you on...taking stats and A&P 1 at the same time may prove to be overwhelming. It's certainly not impossible. But, these are two courses you want to show up with an A when it comes time to apply to your program. So, you might want to consider taking those is different semesters. I don't want to discourage you, but both will take up significant amounts of time. You can do it!! You will just need to put the time in. Good luck!

If you bother to venture further into your routine Human Development class curriculum, which is critical to become a sufficient nurse, you will find that 'unorthodox' methods such as being tactless is essential to proficient instructional scaffolding, as research shows. She needs to feel negative about herself before she can feel benefit, and only then is it time to build her up, in this case. Explaining this pretty much ruins the effect as she is not conscious of its motives, assuming she reads this, and thanks to your eagerness to instigate.

Wanted some advice on my 1st semester grades. I took 4 classes.

College Algebra - C+

English 101- B+

Communication- B-

College Reading Skills(CRS)- C

My GPA is a 2.6. So far students older than me said since its my first semester of college, its expected. But others say its really BAD especially if I want to get into Nursing. Next semester ill be taking A&P1, SOCY, Psych, Stats, and English Comp.

What's your opinion on my grades? /:

If I were you I would repeat the courses you got a C, C+, and B- in. Most schools I've come across require a minimum of C+ or B in prerequisites outside of the science pre reqs. The higher your grades the better chance you have. Those grades just aren't competitive enough. And a&p is even harder, and just wait til you take micro...! I'm an adult student, and honestly my grades in all of those courses got me into my RN program, not my teas exam score (which was horrible, but proficient) I got all a's in my sciences except for a B in micro, and all a's in other prereq

Good luck take those courses over and prep to do well in those sciences.

Have you thought about going to the disabilities offices? I had a 1.19 my first semester. Worked very hard on getting my grades up and transferred a few times to get to my dream school. I have also readjusted how I studied. I took A&p 1 and 2 over a 5 week course making good As. I took Microbiology this semester and made a B. How much time are you putting into studying? It is suggested 2 hours for every 1 hour of class. No one has every looked at my first semester of freshman year since my grades went up each semester!

You guys are right.. I'll be working my ass off next semester. Thanks for the criticism.

Your grades are not good, but as long as you know what went wrong and how you can fix it. I have a friend who failed first year in college....she had less than a 1 for a gpa! But she learned from it, retook her classes and has been a nurse for years now and is applying to crna school. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it!

Most schools take all the applications to their nursing programs, and put them in order of GPA

If there is 50 seats, and 55 or so 4.0's, done, no one else is looked at. Some years there are less 4.0's.

They usually then look at all other aspects, after checking to see if all pre-recs are done, and GPA, and all qualifications are met, that's how most schools do it. Some have a point system etc.

So my point is I don't need to tell you if your grades are good or not, you can see where they fit. If this is your dream work harder, much harder, and if you need to find another route to your dream, so be it. Just keep going. The LPN-to RN-to BSN isn't the worst path in the world.

Good luck
